mitomad Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Right im a bit bored as the mrs has gone out for a friends bday so thought i would see which kit cars tickle your fancy. Which would you get. Im looking into getting a kit car in the not to distant future, undecided on what to get at the moment its looking like a z cars mini but im not sure about it as it would only realy be a track day car, same applies for caterham/westfield. But i am getting tempted by a few others which i could use every day aswell as track days they are a marlin 5exi or possibly a gtm. So then whats your choices
Pipster007 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Caterham 7. Been around for long enough, plenty of websites to get info from, parts etc etc etc
john_3.0s Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 fisher fury (lemans style) every time
Jay_harrier Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I've done both a Westfield & Rebuilt a caterham but right now I really fancy a Covin speedster (Porsche Speedster replica) The 7 reps are good but can be a bit full on if you don't want a stripped out gokart
escortmad79 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Cossie powered Dax Rush or Dax Quadra or Megabusa!!
BaileyMex Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 but right now I really fancy a Covin speedster (Porsche Speedster replica) I like this mans style!!!! There is another company called Chiesel I think
GJUK Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Could you try building a mk1 escort from Scratch?! That would be a challenge. I'd like to do a Lancia Stratos (spelling) at some point in my life Jon.
Rick Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Could you try building a mk1 escort from Scratch?! That would be a challenge. most of us pretty much have, i know i have
Mr Sam Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Dutton Melos.......with HPE power i saw a kit car that looked crossed between a melos and a morgan the other night had a whacking great 6cyl BMW lump in it........just WRONG!!!
Jay_harrier Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 but right now I really fancy a Covin speedster (Porsche Speedster replica) I like this mans style!!!! There is another company called Chiesel I think Yep that's them but now use the name Tygan http://www.chesil.co.uk/, uber cool - saw one earlier & nearly wet meself! I do love my unfinished MK2 but would swap it in an instant for one of these (sorry all OSFers!) £22k for this baby:
BaileyMex Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 But of course Jay, it'd have to be running the 911 Turbo lump in it
ratman Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 My m8 dave & his son mike make fooking cool cobra's http://www.madgwickcars.co.uk/home.html
Jay_harrier Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 But of course Jay, it'd have to be running the 911 Turbo lump in it er... okay..... steps slowly away from Mr BaileyMex having realised there could be a marble shortage.... 911T lump might involve some banzai action with the reaper riding shotgun! I passengered in one of these with a VW 1.8T lump which was hectic to say the least.
smiffy Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Got to be a cobra-my old man has one on 18's powered by a big block mopar out of a dodge charger.....
BaileyMex Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I've heard of people putting the engine from the 911 3.0 SC in them without too much effort, so the 3.0 Turbo should be a right hoot
Nettles Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Go for a Robin Hood kit based on a lotus 7 but a hell of a lot cheaper. My dad's been building one for the last few years and it does look the nutz. He's running a 2litre Pinto with a 4 into 1 side exit exhuast system and it sounds fooking sweet.
marky4 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 cobra with a fooking great v8 in it
Gilli Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 I'd love to build a stratos, hawks kit is meant to be better quality than the original. A mate of mine just finished an RS200 kit based on an impreza. Looks sweet and is stupidly fast! Its for sale too, if only i could aford it.... Photo doesn't do it justice
Mick The Mig Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Banham used to do a mini based replica of the "frog eye" sprite. f/glass shell very light with a tuned 1300 engine should get away pretty quick! With reference to the Robin Hood. A build manual that is a joke, panels that dont fit, and and electrical system thats a nightmare. but if you are not in a rush, the all stainless steel chassis and body option is the way to go. A 2.0/2.1/2.2 pinto mounted at least 14 inches further back from the steering rack than an escort gives a good centre of balance and power enough to break traction in the first three gears.
GT_Jim Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 id probably do a cobra 427 or the chisel how come no one has mentioned the awesome mr2 ferrari or the metro TT
Slik 50 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 If it was my cash it would be giong into one of these running a nice V8
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Good choice Slik... How about this? So was it badly designed or were the struts supposed to be coming out of the bonnet? And how on earth has that passed an SVA because they may have someones eye out.
Mr Sam Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 ive almost changed my mind............i forgot you could buy a GT-40 in kit form
Slik 50 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Mike, that is stunning I want a set of them seats aswell please
