jimihendrix Posted December 27, 2007 Author Report Posted December 27, 2007 I drove to work this morning with ice on the windscreen, the window open to clear condensation and driving rain. And I still wouldn't have it any other way yorkester - I know exactly what you mean D The worst car i had to drive through the winter was a VW Beetle, a good one would probably be OK but this had rotten heater channels, cables, heat exchangers etc so had no heater, used to have an inch of ice on the outside of the screen, when i'd scraped/chiselled that off i'd find an inch of it on the inside too, also used to ice up again when i was driving it , doors and locks used to freeze solid too , no more Beetles for me
Mrs O/H/C Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 dont use the tina every day ...but i do use it on selected days through the whole year, i took it out today was a bit chillie as there is no heater !! nothing beats hearing the carbs barking away !!
Andy504 Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 every time i park it in the drive or at work or at the shops i cant resist turning around for one last look. I love it I do that too Yeh me too, cant help meself
cossiematt Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 I like taking the cars out for a blast on those freezing cold but sunny days Having said that I haven't driven my mk1 since the day I bought it, its been on axle stands in the garage Should be ready before the end of winter and I shal be using it plenty

cossiematt Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I've been wondering how you were getting on, Will you be coming along for a drunken social weekend at Powderham? I'm getting on ok with the mex, I took it off the road when I first bought it to make sure that there were no holes underneath and to put some decent protection in place so that its not rotten within a year (happened to me a few years back with a series 1 RSt), but now its off the road the list of parts that I want to change before I drive it keeps growing
shaun1.6ghia Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 it in't on the road at the moment but when it is my mk2 will be going everywhere with me year in year out... whatever the weather... they are built to be driven...

TwoLitrePinto Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 i use mine daily, make the most out of it
Super_Shaun Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 Unfortunatley Id love to say I use mine every day but I dont. Since its MOT in August last year Ive put no more than 300 miles on her, I wont take it out unless its dry and I try to clean it all off before it gets tucked up in the garage, which is all carpeted out. I do drive it the way it should be (Sideways) when its out though.

I will drive her in the rain though if there's a show to go to or OSFDC otherwise she stays in the carpet tiled garage...
davreeve Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 The Fizzy is under going a few tweaks at the moment so is temporarily off the road .Darn annoying as its my only motor so gets used all year round as a rule. A shagged works transit is my mode of transport at present
beedz Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 sadly i have to rely on first great western to get to work (120 round trip ) but the fezza is the only motor so it gets run most days. slows the rolling restoration down & the bloody salt soon finds the patch-ups - just looking forward to getting the bodywork sorted in the spring starts everytime though
jimbo Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 20000 miles in 18 months says I must use mine everyday. Over the holidays, the car is going to hopefully get us Tring -> Bristol -> Evesham -> Rickmansworth -> Linlithgow -> Crinan ->Evesham - Sutton Coldfield -> Tring - 1327 Miles. Bring it on! The cold, the salt, the ice.......... I'll be peeved if we do all that mileage and don't get spotted! Well. The Colonel did it!! Slight change of plan, so only covered 1250 miles, but he never missed a beat. That was with the full range of British winter thrown at it! The only issue is that the thread has gone on the inlet manifold to air filter bracket, so I get a disconcerting buzz at 2500 rpm. I'll be out this weekend to wash off all the salt and dirt, and get the tap & die kit on to the manifold. Didn't get spotted though
R1.Andy Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 when mine is finished..its gonna be an every dayer .cos i cant see the point spending all that doe and time on a car to park in the garage.. maybe snow and ice she will stay in but only cos i dont want some muppet sliding into her..but im gonna take her out when quite so i can do some sliding
CapriBoy Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 I don't risk it. I love it too much to be eroded by crappy british winter weather :/ Especially cuz it's a mk2 2.0S and there arent too many about these days...
Doc Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 When the new engines in the x pack will be a daily driver as the missus will take the GTV to work ...... No luck eh ? LOL
