Besides my 3.0 Capper my 2.8 Granny is my only car so i'm having to use it for work, general running around etc, just wondering how many others are running an old ford all year round and do you think it should be done ? or should they come off the road for the winter ?

I'd rather not be using it, the roads get hammered with salt and grit up here (central Scotland) seemingly from october till april so idealy i'd like to be using a wee crappy hatchback but can't afford another car at the moment, i hate the car getting dirty and just now when it's wet just driving it round the block gets it filthy :( , also the choke is not working so it takes about five minutes to get the motor to run right in the cold weather, it has a fantastic heater though :D .

The Granny is garaged though, since i got a lock up for the Capri and though it's used most days i don't do big miles in it so i recon it can't be doing a great deal of harm.

i use mine all year round, been ok with the cold so far, icey roads are...interesting  but it still seems to run fine, the salt in the grit doesnt really make much of a difference to me as i live in a seaside town so its salty as hell anyways

I'm a bit of a lightweight really I work from home with the firms vans so all my own car mileage is private. I do have a modern as well but if I choose to use the Cortina I will no matter what the weather and i'm always glad when i do. I quite hope it snows zetec engine rwd and snow should be a laugh (I also made sure I had left enough room for the heater so its toasty as well). I like petrolhead01s comment "it's not an ornament".

I keep my white mk2 taxed and ready for the snow - but I also am selective about what days I use it, I dont like keeping a wet car in the garage and I dont like using it when the roads are salted.

I take my RS off road for 6 months over winter, but thats more to do with saving £100 in road tax cos it would only otherwise get used a few times, so it seems pointless.

I use my capri most days, it sits on the drive all the time and in all weathers. When I wash it I go around all the car with the hose and rinse road salt off all surfaces above and below, especially under the wheel arches.

keep it taxed all year round and try and use it as much as possible  but don't like using it to much when roads have been salted :(

The problem i've got is with the salt, i've a mate that mothballs his car for the winter, he recons the salt gets to places underneath where it can be hard to get it off like in the chassis rails and above the fuel tank etc.

I'm not so sure about this, but i did have a mint 71 1380 Mini last year all painted body colour underneath etc, took it out one day last winter because my brother wanted a ride in it, took me two weeks to get it clean again :x , even then i was'nt happy with it.

I have ran other classics all year though, ran my last 3.0s every day for a couple of years and through two winters but the body did end up quite rough :( , also ran a 68 Hillman imp with no heater one year and when i was into yank motors ran a huge Chevy Caprice one year which was fun in the snow :D

Did'nt seem to bother me then though but the deterioration it may cause plays on my concience a bit now.

Maybe i'm getting too fussy with my cars :)

Mine never get used once the roads get salted. I find it easier to resist using em in bad weather than spending £££££s and countless hours restoring em.

Ain't salt one of the main reasons for the death of millions of OSF's over the years????

Look what it did to me van!!:shock::shock:

I guess if you regularly use a jetwash underneath to shift all the salt it ain't quite so bad..
