ZetecVan 2.0 Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Talking to my workmates this morning and comparing what we can and can't drive on our licences. I passed my test in December 1987 and I can drive A car, a car with trailer, a minibus, a minibus with trailer, a 7.5 tonner, a 7.5 tonner with trailer etc. My mate passed his test three months later and can drive a car, a minibus and an electric vehicle. Why does he not have a licence to drive anything with trailers, and why aren't I aloud to drive an electric vehicle? If I can drive a 7.5 tonne wagon with a trailer, I'm sure I can handle a milk float....? What are you licenced to drive?
Chris! Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 its because electric cars are to complicated for you old people
dannyboy Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Passed mine in 2001, 3 months after my 17th (with a 1 month wait for my test ) Wasn't allowed to trailler a car, but mr piggy wiggy didn't cotton on when I had to drag my bruv's beetle in my orange mk2 at 18!! I hate this country. Emigration is on the cards as most of my family have done and its the best move they have made
mossy Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 i can drive a car and a transit...not even a LWB, Thats it!
jed Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Passed me test in 1988 also got class 2 HGV in a nut shell can drive any thing upto 32 ton as long as its rigid
mk1super Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Bike car light weight vehicle and erm that seems to be it tad shite i think
MexDan Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Dont forget we can drive tractors, farm machinery and small road working machinery... because all of that is bloody useful isnt it!! How some didley old grandad can drive a 7 tonne truck pulling a 3 tonne trailer but I can't seems very weird to me!!

If I can drive a 7.5 tonne wagon with a trailer, I'm sure I can handle a milk float....? What are you licenced to drive? You passed a year after me, so same here. I will have to check, but i think I can drive an electric thing too. We don't know we are born! I can jump into anything up to 7.5 tons (insurance too) without another license, which is fine cos I hadn't driven a car, just vans between passing my test and buying the granny a year ago, but I did use to worry about people who usually drive a mini doing the same. No was would I trust Gary's sister with even a SWB transit, and he license says she can!
sab6024 Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 I passed in Nov 97 and I know I can't tow a trailer. Lost my licence (not a fuzz related thing, but a forgot where I put it thing ) so just went to DVLA for a replacement yesterday
kevmk2 Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 Ive got a psv on my license, after being a bus driver Class 2 HGV, 7.5 Tonne etc etc. Never done Class 1 though, those big artic are a bit scary Have passed my car, bus and hgv 2 test first time though
bmxdave Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 I got the car, and a 3.5 ton tranny van. LWB high top is the limit i think. Ive done my theory test for pcv and sometime soon ill be doing my full test. I can do it under 21 because im an engineer Its gay though, time ago you never needed loads of liscences, and a psv license covered a certain weight hgv too. I cant see why i can drive a 12 tonne fully laidened bus with 60 or more passengers but not a 7.5 tonne lorry. Its all classed as danger to the public or others aswell, so its not all about weight.
surfingturnip Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 fook all is what I'm allowed to drive, cars only vehicles up to a few tonnes and nothign with more than about 9 seats actually m8 its no more then seven because i had to remove some seats from my landy beforei was slegalyl allowed to drive it so it is, as I could drive the new '08 landy defender 110 sw but not our '97 110 csw
caprinerd Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 anything upto 7.5 with trailer taking bike test soon so that will be a bonus i also have a greater london council licences so anything upto 7.5 with trailer for them as well
mk2_escort_chick Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 Not a lot! A car and thats about it! lol I have no idea, my licence is downstairs somewhere and i'm lazy! I passed my test Oct 2006...so i'm one of the newcomers
one-day Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 not that i'm a big head but i got everything on mine appart from a coach(psv) but hey who wants to drive coaches full of blue rinsers on days out
