Anglia68 Posted September 10, 2006 Author Report Posted September 10, 2006 It was the FIA European Drag Racing Championship Finals with around 300 teams and a capacity crowd. Appartently it was Danny Cockerills car that was involved.

Admin Mk2Jo Posted September 11, 2006 Admin Report Posted September 11, 2006 OMG ... I was there yesterday standing near the finish line We could see the amubulance and the police but all they kept announcing was that there was a serious "incident" and then the whole thing finished slightly early because the police had sealed the whole of the track off as it was part of their investigation Condolences to the people involved ... what a tragic end to a really good day
Nige S Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Condolences to those involved. It just brings home the dangers not only for the drivers but also the spectators.
escort21 Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Hmm unlucky...wonder what repercussions will be from it
Hilux Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Hmm unlucky...wonder what repercussions will be from it i doubt there will be any as there are signs and notices everywhere that motorsport is dangerous and they accept no responsibility for any injuries caused, you watch at your own risk. thats a pretty standard statement for any circuit/track. i'm sure if it is correct that dan cockerill's car was involved, that the team are analysing everything as to what went wrong and i'm sure they are beside themselves, at the end of the day it's an accident, noone could have predicted what was going to happen and it's got to be a one in a triilion chance of being hit by flying debris. i'm sure that a great sadness is felt by all staff and teams at santa pod that someone was killed watching the sport that them and us all love. a sad time but "thats racing" as they say.
escort21 Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 I've heard that the blower belt snapped and thats what hit the spectator. Strange that they have nets on the pit side at the top but not on the spectator side
