Danmex Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Early mk3 XR3Is about 1983 and Mk2 xr2s same era ..... YKT Now your talking I'd get a mk 3 RS1600i if I had any spare cash.
perry Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 nah only car to have is the series 1 turbo escort ( standard of course )
Pipster007 Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 My M8 is thinking of selling his early, genuine low mileage XR3i, which is mint. His Dad bought it brand new, then sold it to him. I keep telling him to keep it and use it
escortmad79 Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 I'm f*cked if I'll ever acknowledge a Ford Orion or Mk3 Fiesta as a classic OSF! RS1600i, S1 RS Turbo, early XR3 (carbed) & XR3i Mk3s due to limited numbers
atomic punk Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 The wife used to have a 3 door estate mk3 Escort when we first met. I managed to persuade her to keep it as I got to like it - it may not be rear drive but it's certainly better than some cars I could mention. Some T****r in a 4x4 wrote it off and I haven't seen one since. For what it's worth, I think that they will never be proper old skool, but once they are gone we will regret not having saved a few.
Mr Sam Posted February 7, 2006 Author Report Posted February 7, 2006 obviously thell never have the same following as current osf's just a thought though if youve got space for a few older fords why not
escamino Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 I got a Mk3 Escort Cab under a sheet in the garden and at the rate I'm going, it won't be used for another 10 years anyway
Fiesta Steve Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 They may get old and be Fords, but they'll never be oldskool
tim Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 They may get old and be Fords, but they'll never be oldskool YKT

Dom Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 Yeah me too. But if there's anything worth saving it'll be S1 RST's and RS1600i's.
Doc Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 Im with Fiesta steve but i would have a RS1600 as a backup
RFChris Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Nothing new is ever gonna be oldskool. And nothing will have the same amount of respect that our cars will. Laugh,,but i am writing a book based upon the death of the personality of the car. New cars will never be clool, they are too generic. We are the kings of the death of the OLDSKOOL. Nothing built within the last 20 years (ltd editions excluded). Everything from now on in is shite.,..... Chris... P.S Penguin are gonna publish my book.
johnny_h Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 "Everything from now on in is shite......" I might use that in my sig.
deluxe Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 how many of you thought the mk1 fiesta or mk4 cortina was a "future classic" in the late 80s?
Admin Vista Posted September 25, 2006 Admin Report Posted September 25, 2006 I think eventually all cars achieve classic status with age, though this doesn't necessarily mean that they're any good. For instance, Austin Allegros, Marinas and Princesses are regarded as classics in many circles but if you ask me they're all a bunch of poorly designed and built BL tat! Though my mates girlfriend was heard to say at a recent show "that's the best looking car I've seen here today" we looked round at what she was pointing at and to our horror saw a black V plate Princess! Needless to say she hasn't been asked to come again
Gibson Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Xr4i's are clearly gonna achieve classic status. they still have some personality even if they are a bit plastic badboy... but back in the day capris had a bit of a badboy attitude aswell and now look at them...

XR4i"s for sure ...RWD etc, big engine.... As for early mk3 Escorts , i think some will become " classics " , especially the base models that knowone cares for at the moment , and the sportier models will deffo be classics...just as they are at shows like Ford Fair . Just my opinion mind......
over_head_cam Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I loved my old XR4x4 I don't mind an RST1 or XR3. I'd have any of them again and enjoy driving them too. They're not bad motors. I'd even consider them classics, even old school. But NEVER OLDSKOOL FORDS.
