Yeah but if you were walking or driving round you can only do a few streets and would be seen too. This way you can search loads of streets from your own house and not be seen. It's a stalkers top tool.

Well somebody who live 30 miles away is not likely to wander down my street, but if they see a fair few Mk1 transits in it on the internet (with the address) they might make the effort to come over! Same with Mk1 and Mk2 escorts......

Exactly, it makes it very easy for someone with dishonest motives to do research all from the comfort and security of his or her own home. No tramping the streets, or driving around looking for easy prey, why bother when you can do it from your own armchair without raising suspicion.

Another technological "advancement" that I think we could have done without, much like the one in my Privacy thread.

But then they'll get there & that easy house access will be bolted up securely or that tasty car is long gone!!

The images are old & not really reliable.

Found the turnoff for my house but thankfully, they could'nt be bothered to come down the unclassified road to it! My mates house 2 miles up the road is unfortunately in a village and all his classic cars in the drive, in the back garden and his garage ( he was in there at the time) are on full view. It's a recent pic by all accounts. His street has in the past, fallen prey to thieving pikey scum when all the garages were ransacked. Looks like it's about to happen again. This is just another invasion of our ever diminishing privacy. How right George Orwell was when he wrote 1984!

I have looked at a few pics and they are not that much out of date. If say, I bought or sold something on the egay then I would have the postcode of the other person then I could see exactly how their property is set out, then go round and rob them

You can see my house when I had the Cortina on the drive, and read the number plate. Like others have said, you could drive all the streets looking for stuff, or spend ages looking through maps. But if you knew roughly where someone might live then you could just look around a bit.

Having said that I like it myself :D

Read in the paper during the week about a fella who made a living off looking at what churches and schools etc, etc had lead on the roof and went stealing them  like WTF? talk about invasion of privacy :?

This was in our area and he was using the old style google to check out the local buildings roofs he made £44,000 in scrap in 6 months

But don't worry he was severely dealt with by the courts ,he was put on a curfew and made to do 100 hours community service oh and pay £100 costs

The veiw isnt really any different to walking or driving down the road is it.

Fair enough, Ive just 'walked' from my nans old house to my old house in Shipley, Took about 5 minutes. Which is obviously much faster than the time it used to take using my legs. And considering that I live on the South coast now, its much easier than driving for 4 1/2 hours to get there first.

But if I was out scoping for cars to steal then there are easier ways to go about it.

I could sit here for hours clicking down streets hopefully stumbling across a suitable car, that was parked in veiw on the day that the camera car drove past, weeks ago.

Or I could follow cars home when I see them out and about.

Or I could tell you where and when there will be LOTS of classic fords, or Minis, or VW,s all in the same place.

Similar principle - you are no longer allowed to take photos of your kids in public playing areas unless you ask permission from all other parents there first! WTF! But you can still see everyone with your own eyes.

Probably something like keeping an image for future study, if I walk past a house with a decent car in the drive I doubt I'll remember the number plate, or if there was an alarm on the wall, etc, etc.

The difference between walking past, and having a photographic record is that you are able to study it in detail later (which is the part that scares me!)

And study it in private. Form another part of town. Without being seen yourself.

just had a look on it ... luckily cornwall doesnt seem to have the street views yet ... but saying that our old address in saarrff london came up very clear and if we still lived there i would not be amused as the osfs were sometimes on the front drive :roll:

Given that you average scumbag car theif is a sneaky little bastard and can whip away a car without being seen. he wouldnt have much problem taking a photo of your house, to study later. Especially easy nowadays too seeing as the vast majority of people now walk around with a camera in their pocket.

I really can't belive what i'm reading. If you've got an osf sat on the drive or in your garage chances are the local scum knew it was there befor they looked for pictures on the internet. Do you make sure that no one follows you home after a drive or wait till the street is empty till you open the garage door. All these people that bleet on abouy privacy do you refuse to look at show pictuers in classic ford? And do you think that in the features that the owners of the cars should not be named just in case a car thief looks up their address on the internet.
