Whats the worst traffic jam you have ever been in

I nearly got caught in the closed M4 the other day

I once got stuck in paris, i spent 4 hours and did no more than half a mile, meanwhile these motor bikes were zooming past me inbetween the "parked" cars and taking peoples mirrors off as they went...serves me right for being in france in the 1st place

got stuck on the M6 for a few hours a couple of years ago, didnt get too bored though as i had a mag to read in the car and something to drink

spent seven hours completely stationary on a motorway in the middle of nowhere in france because a car transporting lorry had jacknifed and crashed into two lorrys transporting horses so there were cars and horses strewn about the place and instead of driving the crane the wrong way up the closed motorway they tried to bring it up behind all the traffic and they gotpretty close to the front before people had nowehre to go anymore to get out of the way and had to reverse the crane all the way back out rand bring it in the other way

got stuck for 3hours trying to get home up near keilder forest, couldnt figure why till we came across an army of new age dick heads trying to force there way in, just as we got to them they started takin the p1ss and shouting abuse, so i pulled up and went stick one on one of them and nearly got arested, fookin joke.

an hour parked on the m25 when a lorry jackknifed but sat with the radio on so was all good as was working

6 hours on the M1 just behind a fatal, was a few years ago

Blimey, 5 hours on the M4 one night at 7PM, they closed it totaly in front of the car i was in, we got moving just past midnight (huge pile up) but we had a great veiw and spent 4 hours helping to clear the road after the injured had been taken away).

 

4 hours on the M1 when they were demolishing one of the bridges in the widening works and a JCB fell over, frikken 2 AM that was then the brake down truck that was collecting it broke down in the contraflow

 

Once spent the entier night in me van out in Surrey when the M25 got closed cos of heavy snow, the road was like a ghost town next day, it was like 28 days later, picking me way through abandoned cars at 7AM

 

I've been trapped in Kent over night as well when (snow again) closed the M20 and the M2, back in the late 80's kent got shut off every dam year mind you the sight of 40Ft artics sliding back down that big hill on the M20 was memorable, had similar on the devon expressway.

AQlso spent the night on Dartmore in a bloody freezing transit van with only 20 cases of JD to keep me company (well 20 cases minus 1 bottle)

There's so many more i forget, was a driver for 20 years so been stuck a LOT!

M6 fatal a while back, about 3 hours. Got out and made lunch on the bonnet of the car as I'd just been shopping.

Hm I guess I've had it pretty good to be honest in the time I been driving (2 1/2 years), got caught in the traffic on Saturday on the M5 near Junction 18. I work in Portbury Docks so as soon I as left work I was pretty much just sat in traffic for ages. Some nice cars and bikes going to RTTS though, couple of OSF's

I've never been stuck for quite as long as some of the descriptions above, my worst traffic jam was more because of what happened to me as a result of it than because of the duration I was stuck in it.

 

It was Southbound on the M1 in about 1989 and I'd been stuck for about 90 mins - 2 hours because of a accident about 3/4 miles further up the road that had completely closed the motorway. As it happened, the exit I wanted was only just over 1/4 of a mile ahead so after about 90 mins to 2 hours at a stand still I lost patience and pulled onto the hard shoulder from behind the artic lorry I'd been sat behind, cruised up the hard shoulder (very slowly and cautiously) and up to the roundabout..........straight in to the arms of a waiting traffic police man who nicked me for driving on the hard shoulder!

best part of 9 hours on the M5 going north coming back after the eclipse in 2000 (i think)

 

second worse was M25 between 10 and 7 in the snow about 5 yrs ago. took me 6.5 hours to do a journey that was normally 1.5hrs. M23 was down to single lane and couldnt see the barriers either side or any road markings. was funny to see the T5 patrol car that came flying past us in a ditch about 5 miles further on tho

a few years back now but was stuck on the m4 as a lorry driver not from this country did a U Turn and caused a huge crash one of the biggest pile ups ever and i was caught in the after math and stood still over 12 hours

A couple of years ago i had to travel home from oxford via birmingham got to brum fine then hit snow - it took 9hrs to get home from walsall it was an epic jam

I spent four hours in my ford onion on the A10 about 5 years ago when the snow stopped everthing, it took me all that time to do about a half mile to the next junction, i had no fags and the fuel was off the red, when i came off i turned round and went and stayed at a workmates house, oh and no heaters either, brrrrrrr

It was blazing hot weather and we sat in the jam for about an hour hardly moving,just standing around chatting and wasting time.

We were right by a turn off so I suggested we take it as I was p*ssed off by now so we did and after a right turn and about a mile we came across a back entrance to the Castle that lead straight onto the show field,my van was on the Classic Ford stand that year

.The cars we had been stopped next to in the jam took another 5 hours to get in.

It's gotta be when we had the snow in Cornwall and the highways neglected to salt the roads I was stuck at Chybucca Junction on the A30 for 4 hours in the Capri. Most people were leaving their cars and walking home, but there was no way in the world I was leaving the Capper....coz when the traffic had got out the way I intended going out and playing I got home at 2 the following morning

I normally manage to make my way to the front of the queue for any fatals , then we have to stand around and wait for the fatal team to turn up so normally it's around 3 to 4 hrs. Plenty of things to do though..........

 

1. Shout at drivers to keep 'em moving.....

 

2. Shout at drivers to stop them taking pictures....

 

3. Shout at drivers to get them off the phone...

 

The list goes on....

 

We don't try to keep it shut for any longer then is necessary, however EVERY fatal has to be treated as a murder scene, that is why it takes so long, after all evidence can't be re-captured once you have let 40 tonne carry on driving over it for hours

Yeh but I bet if it was your family that had been killed you would want to know EXACTLY what had happened , of course we could always roll up and just sweep them up into a body bag, makes no difference to me
