Dude, your building a cologne arched MK1 capri....... imagine that whooshing down the road!?!? ....... just aint right!

Now imagine it snaking down the road with the soundtrack of a V8......

YB turbo gets my vote.

I've never been a fan of big yank V8's. Large simple heavy things that upset your handling balance and pound for pound don't produce nearly as much horse power as they should do given their enormous capacities.

I must admit, i wasnt a fan until i went out in a friends Windsor powered GT40.... the thing was soooo gutsy! it just pulled so hard from nothing.....all the way to 5000rpm.....when you have to change gear.... lol

still great fun though and would suit the Capri.

I love both engines so I'm undecided, I spent a long time thinking this thru myself, whichever you decide it would be awesome.

I chose the YB in the end because :

a) it went straight in, using the same engine mounts, and nothing had to be cut away from my shell, which I did'nt want.

B) I did'nt know a V8 engine builder at the time, I did know a very good engine builder for the YB and I trust him (the 2nd engine not the first), which was also important to me in case anything goes wrong, which it has'nt.

I'm still thinking of going the V8 route, but if I did I'd want the LS8 engine which is 500bhp straight out of the box and relatively un-stressed, but there big money. Pound for pound I think the cossie offers the best value in this country, I priced up a couple of Yank V8 re-builds in the summer and there the same sort of money I paid for the cossie and I dont know them, if I lived in the U.S there cheap as chips.

V8 evey time, and you will probably get better fuel consumption than a tuned YB, FOX body mustang, Mustang Mk3, came with a 5.0 windsor, which is basically the same as a 302, but with injection, roller cam etc, T5 was an option, so its not hard to get 5,0 injected 5Speed mustang engine, Injection IIRC is a stand alone item so its not hard to wire, Throttle body is restrictive above 350hp, but there are plenty of aftermarket TBs for sale on Ebay.com, the rest of the manifold I have been told is capable of supporting 1400hp with turbos!!!

Fox body sump or Bronco sump has the bowl in the right pace, and I speak from experience, it all fits in a Mk1 capri and that was without cuting anything other than the slam panel to fit a Audi 100 rad, even the gear lever came up in the right place,

Im thinking the Fox 5.0 is shorter than the older 302, which may help with the rad thing, but its a serpintine system so the water pump is counter rotating which makes removing the PAS, Air con etc a bit more complicated, but not that hard, even if you revert to the older V belt system from the 302, Summit sell a short water pump assy which will easily shorten the engine by about 30mm+, There is a HUGE aftermarket for these engines, and with the right bits the lowly 302/351, can be taken out to a huge 460 cui, 7.5l  , lots of cheap high flowing Alloy heads, and an easy 500hp NA engine is very feasable without much effort, than a squirt of NOs and a 750 hp engine is not impossible, Just to complicate things, you would be better off with the 302 block rather than the 5,0 if you intend making 500hp+ as the later blocks have been known to burst the lifter valley,

Later Fox Bodies came with a 4.6, Modular engine, very similar to whats in the Jag V8 and Astom Martins, dont know if they will fit in the body without cutting, in the Mustang they came with 2 or 4 cams and 2, 3 or 4 valve heads, again capable of making HUGE power with Turbos, and using motorsport parts, 1600hp and 2000 ftlbs of torque!!!!!, TWO THOUSAND ftlbs is not to be sneezed at, even stock factory they can have 500bhp .

Just have a look around on Google for Fox Mustang. and you will find loads, have a look on Summit Racings web site, you will be surprised how much is available and how realtivly cheap it is, example, I have just bought a NEW set of 8 QUALITY FORGED pistons for a 4,6 mod engine with rings, £300 on my doorstep, try buying a set of 4 for a Cosworth for that!!!!

BTW the pistons are not destined for a Mod Engine but a New RV8 that im building,

The V8's natural home is between the wings of a Capri and that's coming from a pinto lover.

If the weight is a worry on how it would affect the handling, have you considered the Rover lump. They're as cheap as chips and can be tuned up to give loads of power.

good luck

The engine you should be looking for is a 302/351 WINDSOR, there were earlier versions of the W, 221, 260, and 289, thats 3.7, 4.2, and 4.7, The 289 is the only one worth looing at, but they do fetch a premium as the circuit FIA racers like them,

ford also made a 302/351 CLEVELAND, real heavyweight, but a lot bigger than the W, there is also a 400M, which again is a bigger version of the C, but basically a truck engine.

puting a chevy in will probably mean the bulkhead will need cutting, and it weighs a lot more than a SBF, about 150lbs,

Rovers may be Alloy, they cost a small fortune to tune, and because of their head design, 350hp is max for a NA engine, unless you want to buy aftermarket heads,

If at a later date, you fit alloy heads to a SBF, you can get the engine to within 40lbs of the Rover
