dacar Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 Hello guys and gals I have a 1979 RS2000 which is pretty much standard. I have always wanted to own one and since having it I have began to collect various x-pack options with the intention of fitting them. The problem now is fitting the kit as once its started there will be no going back. My mate will be fitting the kit and painting it as he is a painter and panel beater. I am looking for your opinions on the matter and if any of you have had previous experience with arch kits etc. I have attached a few recent photos of it.
russ105e Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 If it was a rotter or needing a resto then I'd say go for it but it looks very nice as it is and I wouldn't have the the round ones to cut into that good luck with whatever you choose
mk2 mike Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 It does look clean but I'd x pack it. I love an arched escort and you don't see too many of them around. If your wings are mega clean, might be worth getting some more from eBay and cutting those up, and selling your ones to recoup some funds?
Admin Vista Posted September 11, 2011 Admin Report Posted September 11, 2011 If it was a rotter or needing a resto then I'd say go for it but it looks very nice as it is and I wouldn't have the the round ones to cut into that good luck with whatever you choose Ditto from me, X packs are nice but by doing it you'll be cutting away what looks to be good steel and replacing it with Fibreglass.
dacar Posted September 11, 2011 Author Report Posted September 11, 2011 The rear quarters have new arch repair panels welded in so easy there to chop them, the front are proper wings with no welding. I did the restoration to it and its pretty solid but has had a lot of welding here and there so its far from mint. Every time it goes for a MOT the examiner smiles and says "Its Solid". I spent money getting the x-pack wheels refurb and the engine is 2.1 with a high uplift which makes it nice for a set of 40's or 45's as was an option for x pack. I reckon I'll do it but it will take bottle!!
youngpecker Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 Looks nice mate!.But its yours to do as ya want, them wheels look the nuts!!!!.look for the bits to put it back to standard as and when if you think youll need em.
marky4 Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 its your car so its up to you but i do love an X
In The Pit Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 I recon it looks great how it is, it wont be worth as much with an x pack fitted.
SmokeEm Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 Do whatever it takes to get those wheels on
jas Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 leave it as it is shame to cut that about.

BaileyMex Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 If I didnt have the Mex then I would probably have a Black MK2 RS2000 custom.....slammed!! Love it how it is, BUT...........it's your car at the end of the day mate, I'd only chop it up if it was rotten
dacar Posted September 17, 2011 Author Report Posted September 17, 2011 send me an email and i can forward some of my re-build pics to help with fitting PM'd my email to you. I'm gonna get the wheels on and still a bit undecided. It was a bit of a shed when I got it and I did all the work to get it back to roadworthy and its running really well and everything works so a bit scared to start the work.
tazrocks88 Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 if it is what you wanted then do it! dont change ur plans just cos its on the road you have a plan cos its what you want and to not do it you will always think what would it have been like if i had done it! i have had a project for 5 years now and know why you want it on the road and also know why you want to x pack it! what i personally chase if it was head and heart its always heart with a car
GJUK Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 I couldnt do it.... Car looks far too good to chop about.
