puddy Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 I ,like most people don't have a pot to piss in at the moment, so rather than get my fire breathing/Fuel consuming mk2 tina back on the road, I thought I would go back to my osf roots and do a simple little x flow mk1 ,4 door tina to get my kicks in,and try to keep it on a sensible budget. I am trying not to get drawn into the, you must have this and you must have that brigade and thinking more how I did it 30 years ago and still had a scream in mk1/2 Tinas and Escorts. But due to the crowd that have jumped on the osf bandwagon, I am finding getting reasonably priced parts that are frankly nearly as old and clapped out as I am nigh on impossible, is it me ??????????? Here is an example ........ viewtopic.php?f=26&t=131517 £150 for a F***ed gearbox and a rusty prop shaft ,I rest my case ! Puddy
Admin Mk2Jo Posted October 12, 2011 Admin Report Posted October 12, 2011 There are also people (like me) who don't really know what these parts should cost and therefore pay the money thus bumping up the prices and getting ripped off without even realising it
jas Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 i no what u mean i just need silly parts to get my car on the road but i look on the evilbay its just mad.
banarama Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 thats why they go missing.i bet 60 percent of the stuff on ebay is nicked.and us honest people buy it back,of the thieves
BIG G Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 well if you will buy from auctions you will pay to dollar. try putting wanted adds it works and helps us hoarders shed so me space
mk1super Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 Completely agree with you Puddy in a similar situation myself on a tight budget. I said before there is a massive underlying greed present and a very darkside to our intrest. Banarama is right on the ball most of the stuff probably has come off cars that vanished without trace, there are alot of very dishonest "enthusiasts" Like you Jo i didnt know what stuff was worth and Ive fell victim to that but you live and learn. Furthermore reproduction parts have fell into the hands of the dishonest and greedy, perfect example the reproduction mexico wings. There was one of them on ebay not that long ago sitting at £500 quid before bids! It really angers me. That and paying your hard earned for sh1t that doesnt fit or work or took 3 quid to make an is being sold for 35 pound its a joke! An you get all the usual garbage "Were a company of enthusiasts supplying parts/spares for enthusiasts" utter f*^k*+g shite your a bunch of greedy c**ts out to make a buck off peoples love of cars! These people need named and shamed, they also need removed from forums and for folks just to stop buying stuff from them all nearly impossible to do
5tox Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 i know what you mean... Its difficult just to get my foot on the old skool ladder at the moment, cant believe the cost of mk1 escorts and parts on fleebay but saying that atleast its an investment that should hold its value im quite lucky in the sense that im a tight fisted b@stard and dont mind waiting months to get the part im after at a lower price
Admin Vista Posted October 12, 2011 Admin Report Posted October 12, 2011 You're welcome to borrow my pot Puddy As to the ad for that box and prop, he can ask for £150 till the cows come home but unless he finds someone very gullible (unlikely on here) I can't see him getting it. Same with selling used cars, probably 90% of private sellers over prices them and ends up coming down to make a sale.
w p e Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 original anglia 105e bumper bolt for sale £125 ono
tina2 Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 i quite fancy doing a MK1 Escort as a project but that aint gonna happen without a lottery win. I,m lucky that what I do have I got before the prices went through the roof
BaileyMex Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 im quite lucky in the sense that im a tight fisted b@stard and dont mind waiting months to get the part im after at a lower price Me too mate, unless it's urgent, I'll bide my time till I find one the 'I' am prepared pay for original anglia 105e bumper bolt for sale £125 ono Don't buy that one, I can do a pair, one is cross threaded but you can have the pair for £130 and i'll even do postage free
herb capri Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 i have parts i got from cars i bought and broke,a whole shed full of them i wont sell them on ebay unless i'm skint, but when i do i cant bring them to my shed coz they will come back for other stuff! in the 7 years ive been in my shed i've spent £14000 in rent,2500 in rates, yeah i do help mates out with cheap bits and help but i'm sick of folk who think the stuff is cheap coz its old,and i've got a lot, i bought it worked on it, saved it,and now its worth money,it wont pay back what i spent getting the car legally, breaking it and keeping it,i too have a gearbox [that is good as mentioned at the start] probably a prop too, i would sell it, but for pennies? i have a few osf cars ,my ones they need parts thats why i invested in the stuff![i sold a mk1 mexico air filter to a osf mate for £12,5 days later it was on ebay for £55 start} i find if anyone does want a box for example and they contact me and i will try and help, but at £25 a throw ,not worth my time, so osf guys dont call ,and i dont advertise.you dont get your stuff. the last mk1 [rotten ] capri i bought was £780 2 years ago ,last mk2 escort £500 3 years ago, last mk1 escort 650 18months ago, so can i give it away? no i need to get that back some how so how about fair offers for good parts? and while we are at it a bit less one up man ship and a bit more camaraderie. thanks for reading, feel free to call or pm for bits but be fair mike
puddy Posted October 12, 2011 Author Report Posted October 12, 2011 Glad to see I am not the only one that is pee'd off with the current situation, it is not only parts either, another thing that really boils my p*** is when you see a mexico,or lotus tina, etc, advertised at telephone numbers, then they say it needs brakes,a clutch etc which would cost peanuts to fit compared to the exorbitent price they are asking for the car ,and they won't even make the vehicle serviceable before they flog it ! Not everyone kicks the s**t out of osf spares though , I can highly recommend the boys at Escor-tec that at least try to keep it real whilst running a business Puddy
Darran Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Glad to see I am not the only one that is pee'd off with the current situation, it is not only parts either, another thing that really boils my p*** is when you see a mexico,or lotus tina, etc, advertised at telephone numbers, then they say it needs brakes,a clutch etc which would cost peanuts to fit compared to the exorbitent price they are asking for the car ,and they won't even make the vehicle serviceable before they flog it ! Not everyone kicks the s**t out of osf spares though , I can highly recommend the boys at Escor-tec that at least try to keep it real whilst running a business Puddy Thanks mate. We do try and be the cheapist out there... thats why we don't put many adverts up for parts and cars they just don't hang around. You have a idea of what stock we turn around. Only way to make money is to just turn the stock around,,rather than sky high prices.
Darran Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 And were happy No straight faces in our workshop...unlike a lot in the old skool ford world.
Tall paul Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 I agree with these silly prices people want, I have or should I say had a tight budget to pinto my mk2 and try and get it done before the weather comes (working outside) but that budget has gone way past what I had saved up! My brother needs a mk3'tina front wing, there was a NOS ford one on eBay with a buy it now of £600! Jokes! If I wasn't in such a rush I would have just collected parts as I went along aswell. I have used Escort-tec and G.S Escorts lots of times and can highly recommend them for good quality parts and prices.
mk1super Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Have to say Escort-Tec are without a doubt the best to deal with, they know there stuff extremly helpful and give sound advice.
BaileyMex Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Have to say Escort-Tec are without a doubt the best to deal with, they know there stuff extremly helpful and give sound advice. Agreed
PlopPlop Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 to sell cheap parts you need to break cheap cars
Nick Mexi-cos Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Escort tec are the best to deal with for any old skool parts and there parts and of good used quality unlike some , but got to say everytime i go and see you guys i never see smiling faces hahahahaha Puddy if you need any cortina bits call me anytime fella , have some bits around and always have some around breaking too
Skimmer Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 What i cant get my head around is the lads even on this forum theres several and 1 in particular that when someone asks "i dont know what this is worth" or somthing along them lines , they give a reply "stick it on ebay " youll get a fortune etc etc so there adding to the price hike in OSF parts/cars surely ??? over the years and even now if i can give someone something to get there motor on the road i do , last month i gave a young lad who is a mate of my son a pair of old/used really fair condition mk1 mexico wings , i even said id do a couple of very minor repairs to them when needed , though i know there value as i paid 500 quid each for NOS ones only last year , sorry it sounds like a rant but surely look after each other !!! ......And yes the prices of OSF stuff is crazy
Posse Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 I reckon its mostly down to Ebay why the prices have gone through the roof not just on the parts but the cars to . But yeah Darren is ok i suppose
mk2cortinadan Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 over the last few years ive had to sell some nice fords to keep my family/house goin luckily ive managed to stay in the scene now doing it all on a budget with my capri sign of the times aint it?
