marky4 Posted May 4, 2012 Author Report Posted May 4, 2012 he thinks it was a split fuel line he carries 2 fire exstinghers but just enough time to get out of the car as flames where coming through the dash by the time he had pulled over lucky no one was in the back

mk2 mike Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 I don't think i'd be able to take pictures, id just be standing there in a trance At the end of the day it's just a lump of metal, as long as the occupants got out and are safe. Still gutted for him though

gearbox100 Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 repeat whats already been said. I was debating if i should fit a plumbed in system like the rally cars have into my mk1 as i build it. Those photo`s have made it alot easier to decide.
zetecmk2 Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 about 8 years ago, when i had a pinto in mine, i was driving to work and saw flames coming out my bonnet vents! pulled over and hit it with the powder. killed it dead. started it and drove it to work....if it didn't go out, i would have watched it burn i really feel for him!!!
fezza Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 What a shame just couldnt imagine standing there and having to watch your pride and joy go up in flames although i did have a very close call a few years ago on the way to Classic Ford, luckily i was in a convoy and someone came to the rescue, always carry an extinguisher now
jamie Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 No way That is so sad to see - words cannot describe it. I hope he is OK. Such a shock to see something like that.

greaser Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 How gutty is that,i cud never of stood there and watched it burn.Feel so sorry for the bloke.
Retromotorsport Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 For anyone without a battery cut off and a plumbed in fire extinguisher... take a look again You can plumb the extinguisher bottle out of the way .. in the boot by buying extra tube .. and the pull handles can be hidden away under your seat .. Pull the battery ( pumps off, sparks that ignite off) then the extinguisher When plumbing in .think... the turbo on a cossie may be hot, but it dosnt burn, the fuel is on the other side. Point the nozzel at 45'deg front the front corner, the nozzels have a 90'deg spray pattern.. so thats rad to inner wing covered.. Think what burns.. fuel, wiring and most important, brake fluid. In a race car, the interior nozzel is pointed approximatly at the drivers nuts.. but your road car is more important, so point it where its going to hit the electrics. and again, remember that brake fluid. If you have cylinders inside the car, the lines going to them are massive fire hazards, if a small fire melts them, you'll have a big fire. Also.. two bottles are better than one, the smallest is 2 1/4L .. but you cant get 4-5-6L bottles. More is better.. Don't bother with handhelds.. its all about time, and feeding a fire.. time and air makes a bigger fire, if your still moving, you cant jump out and hit the fire with extinguishant. If you do stop, and dash out with the handheld ..you'll have to run back and pull the bonnet release, and then back round to the front ..burn your hand..and .puufff .. a big cloud goes over the road and a little bit hits the top of the hot air and floats up in the wind.. and you've opened the bonnet..all that air gets to the flame.. The fire brigade will open the bonnet... they have 50,000L of water and 1,000L of foam .. Theres nothing that can be done to turn the clock back on this poor fellow.. or the car, but if any good can from this, you'll be ordering an extingusher before you go out next time. And the battery cut off.. i've see a person try to put out a carb fire while the pumps are still pumping .. your not thinking straight when your pride and joy is burning ... just remember ..batt then fire .. both at the same time is better than none at all ..
