it's either cortina or escort for me (or bicycle in the summer)

leaving either parked up somewhere is an issue but for some reason I worry less about the cortina getting nicked (I might be deluded there though)

Used to use my capri all year round and leave it in all sorts of places lol, although up until recently I'm trying to save it from the winter salt and just use it in the summer months , very practical, good on fuel, comfortable even with a peterlloyd rally exhaust! - I nearly fall asleep driving modern cars, no fun!  and I think its doing around 2800rpm at 60 in 5th

I did drive my Van a bit (although not a lot) between selling the BMW and getting the Mitsubishi road legal.  Not something I'd like to make a habit of mind you.

By my reckoning, the final drive on my van is approx 4:1, four speed box, running on 175/50/13s.  I really want to sort that out at some point.  (Which I assume involves swapping out diff internals?)

Well my old mk3 takes me to work, picks the kids up from school, takes the BMX's to the race track, stick a trailer on the back and take a load of crap to the dump, visit my dad in Yorkshire, delivers the loudest Chinese take-away in Essex every weekend, stick a bigger trailer on the back and take the mini to the autograss track and then lamp on a caravan and take the family on holiday (don't worry I got rid of the mini and the caravan)....................is that daily enough for ya???

Oh yeah it doubles up as a comfy sofa for my kids too :)post-12169-0-95640200-1371582858_thumb.jpg

Probably use the RS everyday, I am paranoid about it getting nicked and what the winter weather will do but i shall not live in fear!!! This will probably change once i actually get it on the road but for now :victory:

the anglia is a fair weather car ( it's painted and detailed underneath ) but in the late 80's i drove my 1700 pre xflow ( with 40's ) mk1 cortina daily to work etc, then in the early 90's i built a pro street ( remember that style! ) mk1 granada and used that for work too, it had a 351w small block ford ( 5.7 litre ). fuel was 'cheap' then ! the granada is still about ( but i converted it back to standard rear axle/floorpan before i sold it ) reg no. tkj422r owned by john and mike ludlow over southend way, it was featured in retro ford a while back. the cortina is still around too 526fxt, don't know who owns it but dvla says 2000cc, i would love to see that one again, lots of fond memories! it was an almost rust free really early pre aeroflow bought off ron harris for 200 quid! how times have changed.....

cheers, ian.

I did use my capri as my daily for a bit. Was excellent, never once let me down, I remember sitting in traffic went to pull away, there was a huge cloud of blue smoke pour out the back all over some other bloke, don't know why it did that never saw it again

Bought a 3 series coupe now, my house has 4 cars on the front, all 6 cylinder all 24v all 5 speed all rear wheel drive all petrol, fuel bills for me and my dad are quite good but wouldnt have it any other way.

This is a post I put up earlier today on a thread of the same name so thought it would be worth while here too.

I have used my Mk2 for over 25 years as my daily driver. It took me to university every day and on field trips as part of my degree. Took it up thousands of Kms of dirt and gravel roads going camping and caving and crossing creeks with it. Drove it to Melbourne 15 times and back (1000 each way) Brisbane and Adelaide twice (1200km each way) had to stop in the middle of the dessert with the radiator clogged with locusts. Many happy memories. I remember being pulled over by the police almost every week and breath tested as an excuse just to pull me over when I was younger but the day that Subaru WRXs hit the streets that all mysteriously stopped. So whenever I see one zooming past with the wastegate popping off I think "thanks for taking the heat off! " LOL Now you get 1.3Lt hatches quicker than you so no one looks at you as a boy racer any more.

During the 90's I was constantly hassled about when am I going to get rid of that old banger. Around 2000 or so things changed and people started saying its nice to see one of those still on the road, now its gone even further to "I love your Escort mate havent seen one in years."

The car still has its original 2lt Pinto engine although the bottom end got 20 thou pistons in the late 80's not because it needed them but it was for the experience of rebuilding my own engine and learning how it all went together. Head is still untouched though and the cam doesnt show great signs of wear which is amazing! I came across a brand new Pinto head in its Ford box years ago expecting to need it any minute but it keeps going. So it just sits under my bed waiting. Almost scrapped the car once because of one rusty rear guard when I see on these pages you guys dont even scrap one with 4 rusty guards! I always wished we had gotten Mk1 RS2000s here in Australia. I cant tour in my Twincam like I can with a Pinto engined car, if we did I would probably swap without hesitation.

lol, I can't say I've come across the locust problem in the UK (fortunately). Sod trying to clean a few dead ones of those off your windscreen!

Well with the Locusts blocking the radiator came the boils and was plagued by flies while i was taking the grill off to remove the Locust bodies. I have sliced myself open on that car so many times there have been rivers of blood, the electronics have gone out plunging me into darkness, and I am currently repairing the hail dents on the roof. The 10 plagues of Egypt? Thank goodness im not the first born but I am certain the car will be the death of me! If there is an OSF god, I dont think he likes me very much.

I used to use my Mk1 everyday for about a year, and it was great for the looks side of things, always got noticed

But never realised how impractical it was until I bought the E30, so much more comfort, better heater, 5 gears and I don't mind parking it anywhere :D

Having to use the escort at the moment as the BM is broke, not enjoying it as much as I used to, but i didnt know any different back then

Sounds like it's time to bust out the pipe and slippers old chap. I could probably find a colostomy bag wintering in a garage somewhere with an unused classic... :nerner:

You shouldn't have gone to the E30! You'll get hooked, I started with E30, then E46, then E34, E30 conv, E90, now back to E46 as daily driver... I love all 'old' Fords but all BMWs... Well except diesels and SUVs

The Cortina is for weekend fun, use my 1.3 Combo van for everyday, usually got pallets of steel or parts for delivery in the back, they wouldn't fit in the Cortina boot!  I've got an X3 for family chores....
