Guest oldfordfan Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 THIS IS REAL NOT A EMAIL THING DOING THE ROUNDS PLEASE MAKE IT STICKY FOR ALL TO SEE. I use several forums and a certain person has arrived and is making a LOT of money, £1000's from us. Selling non existant parts to people on various car forums. So far I know of about 5 different ones he has used and has made a serious amount on each. BEWARE WHEN BUYING ANYTHING ONLINE THROUGH A PRIVATE AD, HE ONLY ACCEPT PAYPAL, WONT ALLOW COLLECTION AND HOLD THE BIGGEST STORE OF SOUGHT AFTER PARTS FOR ALL MAKES APPARENTLY. Links to various forums below. http://www.escortevolution.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=74748 http://www.mantaclub.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11186&whichpage=1 http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=19749&highlight= http://www.mk1oc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5219

Jelly Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 If the people used Paypal, why don't they just withdraw their payments?
Admin Vista Posted February 13, 2007 Admin Report Posted February 13, 2007 Whilst I agree with all the sentiment expressed about rip off & con artists I'd also like to point out that it's very easy for cases of mistaken identity to occur on these forums. For instance if you read the VW Golf Thread the seller on there has given an email address, has given his mobile phone number and is happy for people to come in person and collect parts. He even has someone vouching for the fact that he's been over and seen the guy. Whilst there may be a crook circulating our forums to scam us for money, be careful about including everyone with similar style listings as automatically crooked. How would you feel if you listed a bunch of parts left over from a resto for sale on here and people assumed you were the same scammer? I guess as with all things it's buyer beware, if you're prepared to send money off into the electronic wilderness then you must be prepared to take the risk. I am of course not saying you deserve to be ripped off, but if you were a little more careful in the first place it probably wouldn't have happened. My advice? Only use paypal for ebay registered auctions and not for transactions with unknown strangers you've never seen or heard of before. Ensure you have an address and telephone number (preferably land line) before aggreeing to purchase. Pay by crossed cheque rather than postal order as that has to be paid through the recipients bank account and is therefore traceable. I guess be careful is the moral of the story.
Johnson Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 cheers for the warning. ebays getting bad for this sort of thing too
Harry128 Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Right Guys, just wanted to give you a heads up. Theres a bloke at the moment who is trolling/scamming the online owners clubs For Sale sections at the moment and he's making an absolute killing as well. So far the Escort Owners forum, Mk1 Astra forum, the Mantra forum and the Land Rover forum have all been taken for thousands so far so I thought we'd better keep an eye out in case he appears on here or any other forum. The standard patter is that he's having a clearout of bits, all very cheap, must go quickly but NO collection, delivery only and payment through Paypal only. He also offers no pictures of the items either and once payements recieved the money and him disappears from the forum. You have been warned! His posts are something like this: mud-plugger wrote: right, here goes, ive got a full garage of escort mk3/4/5/5b and 6 bits that ive collected over 7 years of building escorts and now ive got o get rid of the lot so i can re-build my landrover V8 most of the stuff ive got is performance but ive also got a lot of standard stuff from hi spec cars (XR/RS/Ghia) interior, exterior, wheels, engine parts, exhaust parts and systems, brales, lights, and possibly enough little bits in there to re-stock ford! ive also got a few saph cossy bits too, just the odds and sods really. all postage is cheap and parts are even cheaper. i only accept paypal, sorry but theres a few bits i need to get off ebay for the landy so its a lot easier that way. any more info if you need parts, please email me at dj-dirty@hotmail.co.uk cheers, Martin or dinsey wrote: right, here goes, ive got a full garage of mk1+2 astra bits that ive collected over 7 years of building vauxhalls and now ive got o get rid of the lot so i can re-build my landrover V8 most of the stuff ive got is performance but ive also got a lot of standard stuff from hi spec cars GTE/SRi/8V&16V interior, exterior, wheels, engine parts, exhaust parts and systems, brales, lights, and possibly enough little bits in there to re-stock vaux! ive also got a few mantaB bits too, just the odds and sods really. all postage is cheap and parts are even cheaper. i only accept paypal, sorry but theres a few bits i need to get off ebay for the landy so its a lot easier that way. any more info if you need parts, please email me at mmmdines_666@hotmail.co.uk cheers, Martin (as copied off of the minifinity forum)
