what sort of top end should i expect i have a mk3 escort 1600 with a +90 bore, fastroad cam a bit of head work and a k&n and a 4 branch running a 4speed box and a rs2000 diff

i know a pretty much standard 2.8 capri with 100k on the clock isnt exactly fast these days, but i had a lot of fun annoying a new 3 series bmw driver (must have been a 320 or a diesel, couldnt keep up with anything faster )

i was still glued to his tail (on a private road your honor) at 110-15 ish, i say ish because the capri speedoes are useless i think it said something daft like 130, well it couldnt do that new

anyway good fun, i dont think mr rep liked having some old pile of **** keeping up with him

normally i just go sideways especially if im infront

i just hate c@~s in general i was out for a play in the snow in my landy the other day and this guy goes tearing past me in a beemer and i turned to my brother and said he is gonna carsh i bet it ... so neway we turned into a side street as we were looking for a back way into the local golf course didnt find it so went back out and bmw man goes tearing past again in the opposite direction.. as it happens i was going tht way so i just turned and followed him only to seee him slam on the anchors and turn into a side street and turn round now instead of waiting for the big landrover to go past before he pulled out into a road that isnt wide enough for him to pass me he pulled out and sat there facing me swearing and telling me to get out the King way and im in a landrover i should go up the kurb to get out of his way so i started to reverse making sure he couldnt get past me and just flored it straight at him the look on his face was qulity stupid bastard last minute i did go up the kurb to avoid hitting him then just drove off lol

but really is it wise to argue with a landrover . ? especially one with one red door one black door and the rest of it green a dent in every panel and big bits of metal welded on the corners and a big steering gaurd ? lol

people also took advantage, they'd see an old capri and just think i can pull out itl be ok! idiots though, older cars= less powerful and poorer handling brakes!

dont get the issue of people over taking anymore though, i just open it up alittle and the charger takes care of the rest :)

My capri doesn't go too badly but brakes are a problem. It pulls all over the place. Pot luck as to which way it'll go. Biggest trouble I seem to get is people pulling out on me. Pain in the arse when you know you ain't gonna stop for them easily.

I will get them brakes done. Just well wait for the new motor.

:lol: nice one mate, but i would only try it if i were in a 101

Why's that? Our 88 series 2A is the toughest thing you could get and it'll run rings round a 101, i'm pissed that I couldnt get insured on it straight away and the chassis succumbed to rust, but I'll fix it when I've soted the rust on my anglia you can bet that, and it'll be playtime. Had really wide mud pluggers on it for years, we got snowed in once to about three-four feet of snow, so barreled it ito the snow and let the tread scoop it all out till it was upto its axles, then dig it out and go again. We used to use the ol beast at a big jamboree, which was quite a serious event. One year it was absolutely flooded and even all the modifieds got stuck, including the marshall's Dakar, so they asked me and my dad to pull everything out.

Its only these last few years they've gone downhill, LR have abandoned their roots and hence make pants off roaders, but they aren't real LRs like the old leaf springers and 90s.

I call it old car envy but the trouble is I cruise at about 90 and they dont like it as my mk1 looks like a bag of rusty nails.

I alway shave some twat try to over take me, and thats why I love sleepers, I have loads of stories the last one was on my bike when a guy in a brand new M5 tried in vain to beat me but what he forgot was the 155 mph rev limiter. I always get idiots when I am on my bike trouble is it will pull 60 in 3 seconds 100 in 6 and a top wack of 170mph you can t out acelerate a bike unless you have an F1 car dickheads!

I also have a volvo t4 which is mental and I take great pride in upsetting Boy racers and BMW drivers.

more stories please!

I'm telling you now an old car has the looks you then hide within it a nicely tuned lump, cruise up alongside some tinker lol in £40,000 worth of new car and watch his face as you drop it a cog and leave him whinging to his missus about carbon emissions or some cack!

Erm, beg to differ mate but we left a brand new SV1000 for dead in my brother's cobra, and it's only being run in so wasn't trying anything, and I don't think it'd have much of a struggle to out drag a Gixer either once its run in

I had an SV it was like a tractor enough said! it always depends on who is driving or riding it, I remember being hit by a guy in a Alpina BMW and then he drove off I still caught him up in my turbo diesel french crappy car

People who think old cars are slow should really watch out in some cases newer cars e.g saxo are quicker top end but slower acceleration ( or closely matched) and thats what matters at the traffic light derby . in many cases older cars are nearly as good as new ones . plus boys with al that body kit go slower due to weight . :ykt::mrgreen:

I hate the old car = slow car attitude of new car owners. I've often had to boot it up to 3 figures when crappy 1.2 clios have tried to overtake my tina. They soon gave up and pulled in behind once I reached 100 tho :D

People pull out right in front of you even when you're driving a new car though. Most people just seem to ignore give way signs at junctions and roundabouts these days. I don't think that has anything to do with being in an old car. The only trouble in an old car of course is stopping in time is harder.

I once drove a tina back from Scotland, most of the front brakes were seized with just a tiny bit of pad working (I didn't know it at the time!) and a bike pulled in front of me when I was braking from motrway speeds. Nearly knocked him off
