bozie Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 how easy is it to go side ways without an lsd a few of my mates have got jap crap and said since fitting lsd its much better for drifting will i still be able to get the back out without an lsd
Danmex Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Yup! you just try harder Provide you've got some power under your right foot obviously
orionmojo Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 yep. an lsd will be better for 'drfting' but the car'll understeer loads and scare you whilst reversing round a corner the wheels will light up easier without oe,but it'll probably oly be one wheel.
Mk 1 Mark Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Only 1 wheel will turn,As the power only goes to one wheel, It can be done be not properly,You can weld up the planit gears and have a welded/Locked diff... But it jumps in reverse and is not good @ high speeds, But i had one im my old mk2 and loved it...but took a bit of getting used to.... You can get second hand LSD`s for around £300 so your better of just buying one and fitting it
Danmex Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Allright, we heard you the first time
jay Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 havent got a lsd, and me arse end still lets go nicely......
bomber1 Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 havent got a lsd, and me arse end still lets go nicely...... yes jay i have that problem as well
Admin Vista Posted February 16, 2007 Admin Report Posted February 16, 2007 havent got a lsd, and me arse end still lets go nicely...... Don't drink so much guiness then
105Speed Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 an lsd will be better for 'drfting' but the car'll understeer loads and scare you whilst reversing round a corner. I think you will find they are the symptoms of a welded diff, where its permenantly locked. Not what happens when you have a plated slipper or an ATB
mk2 stu Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 A slipper is essential, its the one mod that changes the characteristics of the car so much! I wouldnt dream of going without one, you can hang the back out and with both wheels spinnig feel like a god as you toe it up the road sideways!
X-pack-Glyn Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 im off to high wycombe to pick mine up tonight then gota strip it down and throw the crap 3.09 ratio in the scrap bin and fit my 3.77, new bearings, this and that and il end up with a £600 axle thought id better snap this one up before they start fetching a grand!
60ftman Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 We run a spool (locked diff). Ran a spool on the old Anglia as well, and one of our 'stock' RS2's. Despite what everyone said, the cars have always remained very driveable and well mannered, and we never suffered from the dreaded understeer that the doom-mongers said would happen (even with 18.5" of rubber on each of the back corners). Other great thing about spools is they are about a quarter of the price of any type of LSD. You know it makes sense!!
sambo Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 If your serious about your ford and have any sort of power, then get an LSD mate. Money VERY well spent.
PIG Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 one of the best mods for money outlayed you can do on an old ford imo ,i love um
johnny_h Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 Retro Ford feature please coz I have no idea what the different types of Diffs are and would love to have it spelled out!
LEONMEX Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 Got my ATB from Escort-tec few weeks ago & its made the car 101% better, plenty of sideways action & goes loads better away from the lights
Rick Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 anyone got any pics of a lsd for english not sure what one looks like, i may have one for all i know
MikeyG Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 You can tell if your car has got a lsd pretty easily by spinning up the rear end. Both wheels spin and the tail goes out in a nice controllable fashion. None of that tankslapping, fishtailing oh er missus that comes with one wheel spinning then gripping and spinning again. For an English axle, which mk2 have, TranX, do a good one. A new one will cost about £400 and you'll need bearings gaskets ect to fit which will cost a max of £60. To tell if your axle is fitted without doing doughnuts, simply jack the rear end off the ground with the handbrake off. Turn one wheel manually. If the opposite wheel goes in the same direction it's a lsd, if it goes the other way its a standard diff. Looking at them on the bench a standard diff will have a nest of cogs where as an lsd wont have any showing just a solid set of plates. Check ebay out for pictures.
