Last update was 2017 with an empty bay stating it wouldn’t be long till she was filled but took a bit longer than expected

Is your oil filler cap connected to a catch tank? What did you do about the crank breather on the side of the block?

At least it should have protected the metalwork, as voodoo says petrol and and stiff brush, and time and patience 😂

Agreed. Should have been well protected with all that "black stuff". It's what we did back in the 80's....well I did anyway!!
Got hold of some black stuff when I was 17 and covered the mk1 escy engine bay (engine still in) boot (inc tank) and underneath in it. No idea what it was but it never fully dried!! Stayed tacky, was still tacky when I sold it to my brother 9 months later!!! Can't remember what he did with it....
