john123 Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 why does it have to be advertised as focus fair its a ford show simple there is enough preasure on classic ford to have a small classic ford show only because i can asure you there still would not be enough old stuff attend to hire the venue i used to be chaiman of the ford cortina mk2 owners club and after a few years of looking at only these cars it becomes boring the same would happen in the old car seen no matter what make you choose
dalmarshall Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 Once you've been on the scene for a while ANY show can become boring if its all about the cars. 90% of the cars you will have seen every year for the past xx amount of years with the odd few new builds popping up each year. Its more about meeting up with fellow members and having a good time with those you may only usually 'talk' to on the pooter. Having said that, a car park full of orange focii must be boring.... even for the owners! Do they walk round that car park checking out each one ha ha!! 'nice colour that one, nice colour that one.....ooh bent aeriel on that one....ohh hes curbed a wheel on that one' 2
colr6 Posted August 11, 2016 Author Report Posted August 11, 2016 Once you've been on the scene for a while ANY show can become boring if its all about the cars. Could this be the reason we have jewelry, bog roll and cuddly toy stands ????...LOL 2
john123 Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 ebay has destroyed the autojumble scene and the price of the stands at these shows is too expensive thats why my show is free
colr6 Posted August 11, 2016 Author Report Posted August 11, 2016 ebay has destroyed the autojumble scene and the price of the stands at these shows is too expensive thats why my show is free Could that be one of the reasons for £6 for a Cornish pastie ? My lad who came with me to the show said a lot of the food was dearer than when he attended F1 so who's ripping who off ???
colr6 Posted August 11, 2016 Author Report Posted August 11, 2016 Looks like from the response on this I'm going to have to be more carefull on what I title my write ups
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted August 11, 2016 Moderator Report Posted August 11, 2016 A couple of each colour focus is fine, blended in with a mix of models from all eras. But this whole area of orange Focus' serves no purpose whatsoever. As Dalmarshall says above, does anyone including the owners look over each one? If they do its only because they are trying to figure out which one is theirs so they can go home for the day. 2
Admin Mk2Jo Posted August 11, 2016 Admin Report Posted August 11, 2016 Well done guys.... flying the OSF flag, literally.. superb! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk 1
RWL81P Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 last time i went the only thing worse than the st's was a mk1 granada coupe with lambo doors and i think it had spinners too! hope its nobodys on here. turned a rare classic into 10 bobs worth!
colr6 Posted August 11, 2016 Author Report Posted August 11, 2016 ford fest will be the same I don't remember it been to bad last year, don't think the invasion had begun then. But another year has pastl 1
Admin Vista Posted August 11, 2016 Admin Report Posted August 11, 2016 I think anyone attending has to accept that Ford Fair is for all ages and models of Fords and therefore he goes in the full knowledge that there is going to be plenty of modern cars parked up. There used to be a far bigger classic presence but each year the number of classic clubs attending has dropped as the newer stuff appears in ever increasing numbers. There are always people with a foot in both camps and it's at their request that we've continued to have a stand there each year. Whether that continues next year remains to be seen. 1
RWL81P Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 well yeah the modern plastic will only get worse as they become cheaper for the young uns to afford, then there will be all the gay flashing lights and strobes and making there cars look like xmas trees. no taste. dont think i'll ever go ford fair again. just stick to the classic shows. and by classic, i dont mean 20yr old i mean metal!
DT36 Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 We only went to RS Combe this year and really enjoyed it. Good mixture of old and new cars there, with Burgers and Ice Cream at a reasonable price. I like looking at the old and new stuff, along with the track time, but the whole day is made or broken for me by the quality of the Burgers... 1
YellowTaxi Posted August 18, 2016 Report Posted August 18, 2016 Hi guys, Thought I would offer a bit of 'newbie' view on the show. I went to the show, I have recently taken the plunge and bought a Mk2 RS2000 after a long time off the scene I thought I would see some others owners of similar cars and have a chat. I was totally underwhelmed by what I saw there. Sure there was the odd OSF and obviously the OSF stand flew the flag but tatood plastic engine covers just dont do it for me and never will. Neither do intercoolers with ''Airsearch'' stenciled on them..to be honest I didnt know a Focus RS even had a Turbo and really dont care. The track bit seemed pointless to me, Spose I should have bought a programme (but after the entry fee already felt fleeced) just looked like a load of cars mostly Focus and Fiestas going not very fast or exiting aimlessly going round the track, apparently one did try an overtake but I missed that. I came away thinking its the way things are now after 20+ years off the scene and just thought I should have done my homework before attending. I did have a chat with a few owners of said orange/blue brigade and came away with the view they where enthusiastic, just not enthusiasts . It seems these days you need zero mechanical knowledge just a wad full of cash and a computer. Glad Im not the only person who thought it wasnt up to much for the proper F.O.R.D fan. Would rather have a tooth pulled than go to the next one.
MK2ChrisV Posted August 19, 2016 Report Posted August 19, 2016 I liked how most of the proper fords were mostly in one area, had a good look around there and then just wondered around looking for anything special sitting between the focus and fiestas, there was some decent cars out on track flying past all the plastics and although i can't stand all the modern crap i still really enjoyed my day and unless all the classics disappear then i'll be there next year.
irishtorag Posted August 19, 2016 Report Posted August 19, 2016 Maybe its time to have a classic show of only classics but not just FORD.. Kilbroney show ( look it up on the net) had an attendance of 2000 vehicles mostly pre 1980.. Club stands ,private cars from every maker and era ... Is that the alternative ???? Check Mourne Run ( irish escort club ) joined with retro rally there run and mini show has a good selection of 70's &80's fords and rally cars and sports marques from the era JUST SAYING ....is this the new classic show scene coming forward to stop the modern classic ??????
john123 Posted August 19, 2016 Report Posted August 19, 2016 the trouble is if you mention a classic only show you then get months of where shall we have it and who should organise it then relying on many turning up when i did the old skool summer show at times you had to cross your fingers that you was going to get enough turn up because the venues dont like it if people dont turn up when its free thats why i now run the jolly farmer show most is aimed at old stuff with the newer st is over the back of the field so you have to go look over there only if you want to

Leo Posted August 19, 2016 Report Posted August 19, 2016 Why don't we team up with Retro Rides? They do a few shows, no modern tat either. I'm a fan of old cars, full stop. Not just Fords. 1
puddy Posted August 19, 2016 Report Posted August 19, 2016 I haven't done 'Bored Fair' for quite a few years now , I go to the mk1 Cortina nats at stratford on the same weekend now . I tend to do the same shows most years , but I don't need anyone to hold my hand. Just pick the shows that suit your own tastes . puddy
