Jerrytom161 Posted August 27, 2017 Report Posted August 27, 2017 I cannot believe that people would even consider paying prices like these advertised on E-Bay ????? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-ESCORT-MK1-FORD-CAPRI-MK1-PAIR-OF-NEW-REAR-LIGHTS-/142488253402?hash=item212cf633da:g:p4AAAOSwYTVZopWj mental !!!!!
colr6 Posted August 27, 2017 Report Posted August 27, 2017 Can't be worth that much there's no mention of RS been attatched to them !!! So I think current value £175 and a moggy steering wheel. LOL
Ray Posted August 27, 2017 Report Posted August 27, 2017 Dave, when I told you about them, I was expecting you to buy them, not tell the world about them so they beat you to it
Ray Posted August 27, 2017 Report Posted August 27, 2017 must admit, I'm tempted to make an offer, and point out that he has to accept paypal as an e-bay condition to sell

Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted August 28, 2017 Moderator Report Posted August 28, 2017 These people with new old stock stuff prey on peoples desperation and obsessive compulsive of the meticulous concourse nuts. There is one of these "charge like a wounded bull" types here in Australia and he never deviates or lowers is price because he knows eventually someone will pay it. When my bias valve burst he was the only one on the planet that had a new one. I was outraged by the price but paid what he asked. Same with a pair of new small hole strut tops. Even more annoying than the valve was that I had one new top mount but couldn't find another so I had to buy a pair from that same guy then a week later someone in the UK had a single one for same for next to nothing. So I fall in the desperation category sometimes and do submit to being fleeced. If someone offered up a pair of New Mk2 4 Door Inner C Pillar Trims I would pay the world for them. I have spent so many years trying to find decent ones. Then there is the concourse people who are generally well cashed up and prepared to pay for that extra level of perfection that a new Ford part brings them. Im not overly surprised at the price of these taillights. If you have invested 50 grand for a Twincam or something you probably wouldn't flinch if it raises the bar for your immaculate car.
accord83 Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 Iirc a boxed nos pair of mk1 front indicator units went for £720. I bought repro for £60, i'm not proud.
colr6 Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 Seems like I'll only be producing near enough cars then, there is no way I will pay those ridiculous prices. Of course there are things on my cars that just don't look or fit right but if it means paying another grand to get that bit right or shall we say in the eyes of these anoraks to be just so, then I'm afraid it's going to be near enough and stay that way. I've a lot better things to do with my cash than waste it on ridiculously inflated parts. 2
katana Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 The voice of reason and i'll second the sentiment! I'm building a car to be used ........ and abused - not fawned over or picked to pieces by the 'high and mighty' - I know its not 'right' and I don't care! 1
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted August 29, 2017 Moderator Report Posted August 29, 2017 You guys say that now as we all have but there comes a time out of pure frustration and desperation you give in and pay that price that you know is so wrong but you have no other choice. If you are prepared to hold up your build for years awaiting for that bit out of stubbornness then you have strength indeed but my patience has a limit and you get to the point you have to move on to other aspects of the restoration or other things in general and you just go "what the hell". Especially you find that as you approach the end of your build your more likely to succumb where you no long have that idle time where you can amass your collection of needed parts but able to wait for a reasonable price.
colr6 Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 Sorry RP but I will continue to say it and stick by it, I can see where the likes of certain people are coming from on having the best of the best but one has to draw the line somewhere. Take certain parts on my Tina of which if you bought the parts for a mk1 Tina were what I consider silly money. I spent time on the net looking for alternatives that would do the same job and look the same yes they took a bit of work and thought but got there ! Name to but a few bias pedal box / concentric strut tops / lights/ dashboard / engine loom and car loom / fuel tank. My Tina still cost a lot of pennies and dread to think of its cost if you bought all pukka stuff. I was brought up with nowt and if you wanted something you adapted or made it ! That still sticks with me now even though I have the means.to purchase the correct stuff but hate been ripped off. You look at some of these prices for parts and I think cloud cuckoo land. But as the saying goes there's one born every minute ! But everyone's different that's what makes a great forum full of different people with different views.
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted August 29, 2017 Moderator Report Posted August 29, 2017 I am also certainly one that is prepared to do a bit of research to save being ripped off. Just the other week I found a new rear washer motor for the rear screen of a later Mustang is identical to that of Mk2 Escort. It was clearly made by the same Japanese company. The new Mustang one cost me $18 yet a NOS Ford one goes for around $120 with reasonable seller or $225 from that overpriced seller I mentioned (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MK2-ESCORT-RS2000-GENUINE-FORD-W-SCREEN-WASHER-BOTTLE-MOTOR-PUMP-ASSY-TYPE-1-/222101864772?epid=1346948112&hash=item33b64d8144:g:y2sAAOSwcdBWTbwA). I was chuffed about that. But there are simply things you cannot find especially when you need them desperately. When I had my brake bias valve burst that time there was simply only one seller for them. I waited for as long as I could and tried to research alternatives but in order to get the car back on the road when the registration became due, I paid it. I'm certainly not well off, I don't even own my own home (its why I refer to my Twincam as my house deposit) so every little bit helps. I don't think anyone is suggesting you get this expensive NOS stuff for every aspect of the build just that sometimes there are no alternatives. In some cases the replicas are just so bad that you try them only to find you have wasted your money. I remember the Chinese Mk2 rear taillights were like that. The drivers side had a fault with their mould and as such had a bow in the lens so it wouldn't seal. The red tint was so thin that when the light came on it looked orange. Further highlighted by the cat that lived next door who loved to sit on the rear spoiler and piss on the same rear quarter every other night to mark its territory that the red lens turned white. So I was forced to seek out a better alternative. There so many variables that force people to indulge these ripoff artists. You're right we have to resist them as much as we can, I just have yet to be able to stop 100% as fate forces my hand.
eeb43 Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 that ebay listing shows a mk3/4 cortina part number
