apart from there appears to be a lot of black paint missing, but that could be the photos, there seems to be something not right about that grill, that I just cant put my finger on

I'm guessing its a pattern and not genuine ford, as oblong genuine ford fetch a lot more than £80, and a good pattern still makes over £100

will look at my ones tomorrow and see if I can pin point it

its an h reg car

Early cars had bonnet catch in grill later cable under dash.

Just thinking on that one, Ford had the forethought of people fitting Zetecs into there escorts. So the hole was in also in so you could insert a fire extinguisher in to put the fire out when said zetec threw all its oil over the exhaust manifold. ,!!

Should have looked under the wing, if it was a typical escort the rust holes under there would have been big enough to take the carbs off without lifting the bonnet.

What would an original new Ford one cost these days? I have a pattern one on my Twincam that I bought twenty years back and the fit is dreadful but this one for sale here looks much much better quality. (Mine is Taiwanese I think). Would love to get hold of a new original square headlight version. Strangely though, even though no Australian car was ever fitted with round headlights in the factory I do have a an original Ford Round headlight grill still in its box. I cant even remember how or why I got it. Behind my bedroom door is a pair of round headlight buckets with an ATB stored in the middle so I must have had some notion to convert my Twincam to round headlights before it had any real collectors value to it and originality didnt matter so much or factor in at all. So what would a new Ford OE Square and Round fetch?

the pattern ones I have, the fit isn't too bad tbh, but the quality of the finish against a ford one very poor, they are obviously very poorly pressed out

the one in the picture looks the wrong shape around the lights, but it could just be the angle and photo, I will look later when I'm up the workshop

they usually appear on flea bay, and to ensure you are getting a genuine ford one, make sure its still in its wooden crate, the last one is saw and bought was a few years ago, and I paid just over £200 for it, it depends on who wants it on the day really

My Ford one for round headlights is just in a brown box with Ford on it I think, it would be easy to replicate. Are original square ones really hard to find if you last saw one a couple of years ago?

I've not found anybody who can replicate the finish on the grill pretty much as the same as any ' chrome ' look alloy and grills normally take a hammering poss due to there soft nature. Also with it been a large part of the front of the car people like it just so on concours resto. I know the mere cortina ones I have seen £500 on them. There a lot more escort restos than cortina ones so purely on the number of people would love one should inflate the price.

keith ardley had some mk1 cortina headlight surrounds made and they were the same finish as escort grills when i see him i will ask if he can get anything that big done

on a NOS basis yes, but second hand ones are easy to get, but as Colin says, most are damaged, but you do get some good ones, and with a paint strip, polish and re paint can look like new again, better to buy genuine if you can
