As some of you know, old cars aren't the only thing I have been involved in the restoration of.

Pics below are of the latest project I have even involved in. Originally built in Germany in 1929 and still with her original Naturally aspirated 6 cylinder Diesels fitted and running. Pic no's 1 & 2 are of her in wartime guise in US Naval & Coastguard service and Pics 2 & 3 are of her freshly restored and ready to go back to her Owner.

I am immensely proud to have been involved with a living piece of history and also honoured that I was trusted to be involved representing her Owner.

I'll swap ya my Twincam for it ........... and my house for that matter.

I think it'd probably cost more than that just to charter her for a week in the summer!

Hmmmmm, you won't find any of them on this particular yacht.

I've spent the last 2 days at David Brown Santasalo in Huddersfield.

Had a full tour round the factory today looking at how they make some of the marine transmissions from scratch. The size of them and test facilities is immense. To see these monstrous  gears being cut from billeted steel and put through the case hardening process is a really interesting fete of engineering.

No gearboxes on this old Lady she still has her original 6 cylinder naturally aspirated Diesels. They are open rocker lubrication and direct drive, start them rotating the opposite direction for astern propulsion.

Has an extra deck been added since its war time days?

No but the bit in between the wheelhouse and deck house at the stern has been filled in around the funnel to house some of the modern safety systems necessary. The uppermost deck has been extended a bit too.

She's not the first one time warship I've been involved in restoration of either. This old girl served in the RN and was present at Dunkirk. Her current owner is very respectful of that history and his images of her in wartime guise, including pictures of her then crew, framed around the yacht

Scott is this restoration work done as a hobby or job ?

Job, I work as Owner's Project Manager & Technical representative. The top one took around 18 months and the bottom about 3 years as it was a total rebuild from the keel up.
