I owned an ST185 in the early noughties, it was black and some of my friends called it the Batmobile. Piss taking barstewards! It cornered like it was on rails and was quickish, but not as quick in stock trim as the headline figures suggest as the 4WD system sapped some of the power and they're quite heavy. Great traction though and quite tunable with Toyota reliability. I'd have another as a modern classic but would probably seek out tan ST205 or ST185 Carlos Sainz limited edition model rather than a standard ST185.

I remember the GT4 Model was the only one worth having out of the Australian Specced versions. Most were simply Camry engined 2 door dressed up to look like rally Celica's. The GT4s though are really hard to come by now and not sure I would find one in the price range. It has really boomed as a modern classic I think.

I must say though you really owned a variety of cars when you were younger, you must have been swapping cars every few months to be sure you sampled a bit of everything! I wish I had done that.

Haha no Vauxhall’s though

The Mk1 Cavalier was truly truly dull. But it served a purpose and was all I could afford as a young apprentice. The Astra however was a cracking hot hatch. Just wish I could have afforded a mk1 GTE.

One of my first cars, couldn’t remember what it was really 🤔 wasn’t a ford....it had no rust...wasn’t a Vauxhall it didn’t leak water, ...wasn’t a BMC cos it always worked, mmmmmmmm what was it now?

Most of the cars near us had plywood chassis in the 60s/70s...lol

My Anglia had a piece of floorboard stopping the seat reclining through the floor. Most of the body was fibreglass too. I was a budding Frank Costin at 17!

Your Mother in Law? That begs the delicate question was there a Capri in your list of cars in the late 80's? 😮

A Pillar of the Community? 🙂

There was definitely a 2.0s and a 3.0s in there before 1990.

I'm thinking:

1986 - Mk2 Escort 1300 Sport

1988 - 2.0s Capri & Mk2 RS2000

1989 - 3.0s Capri & TR7 & Mk1 Astra GTE

1990 - MK2 RS2000 & Nova SRI

1991 - 2.8 Capri & XR3i

1992 - cavalier SRI & Manta GTE

1994 - Sierra Ghia (kids came)

1997 - BMW 520 Tourer

2000 - BMW 328 Alpina

2004 - Astra Sri

2010 - Astra SRi

2013 Toyota HiLux & current Mk2 RS2000

2015 - BMW 1 series (pants), traded out at 3 months for present, Astra GTC SRi.

Currently looking at auto Skoda Karoq or Ford Kuga St Line, for 2 reasons. Betty cornered my car last week onto a bollard cos she had no diesel in hers and it also allows me to eat my pastie without having to worry about changing gear.

I'm 50/50 whether to get the Astra repaired as it's paid for and been a really good reliable car or just to trade it in now that the sill and rear arch are creased.

I like my 1.0 115 TSI DSG Karoq SE Tech, (Hellofaname!) more importantly so does my wife, I've had it 18 months with no problems and will probably get another in 6 months. Two year lease deals from my local Skoda agent. But I have had a Roomster and two Yeti's before it, so I'm a bit of a Skoda man.

Was looking at the 1.5. Karoq.   Reviews are really good on it. Kuga is a tad cheaper, but less spec.

Glad you like it and your comment is now swaying me more that way. 👍

No,, it's a thread by a couple of wheel barrow enthusiasts. At least that's what the old joke about Skodas having twin exhausts so that you could use them as a wheelbarrow said

We get quite a few of the later version of that imported over here but I've never seen one of that vintage before.

Yes you could say it was the Mk1 of that line of vehicles.

I had a Friendee Freetop Two version of the later one with a 2.5 TDI and a LSD back axle. Easier on the tyres than the 4wd one. Great bit of kit, the electric lifting roof was brilliant, and no VW scene tax for a gutless thirsty rust bucket.

Haha, yes. It's basically a VW Tiguan in disguise. Had really good reviews and What Car of the year. Plus, I've got about 2 tonne of chippings to get around the back of the house. 😀

The evidence does seem to lean that way... 😉

Ooh, I forgot, there were 2 series 3 Landrovers in there at some point. Bought them when my Betty took the kids home to settle in school while I was posted in Loughborough. Used my FZR600 for cutting about, but needed the Land Dog to get home on weekends. Somehow, I always seemed to gave a massive abundance of spare parts for them 😈
