A festive cautionary note!

Worth checking the speed limit for your van, a friend who drives a Transit Courier 7 cwt for the local fire brigade was recently fined with points  for driving at 70 on the A38, these vans and above are restricted to 60 mph except on motorways, my Daughter in law was also fined for the same in her Ford Ranger Ute as it's classed as a Commercial vehicle, I' drive a work van which is also a Transit Courier  wasn't sure so I confirmed it with the local Ford dealer, as the roadside money collectors will be out in force at this festive time  its worth checking!

I got done a van few years ago where the bottom of the M5 goes to dual carriageway a bit further down. 3 points. I argued it, but it was commercial tax band.

We now have Mitsubishi Warriors in work, so I checked up on them.  70mph on motorway, but 60mph on a dual due to it also having commercial tax.

It’s quite easy really, if it says CDV on the logbook. Car Derived Van then you can go to normal speed limits. If it doesn’t then commercial lower speed limits apply

so what about a van taxed as historic ?????

i thought as a historic vehicle its no longer a goods vehicle!!!!!!

If that’s the case, I’ll keep my trucks a bit longer and do away the 6 weekly checks the expensive MOT Operators license and all the other crap that goes with running goods vehicles. Yippee I might be rich one day 😜

dont work like that col if the vehicle is being used for a commercial purpose you cant LEGALLY claim mot and tax exemption

also an anglia fitted with a poxall engine isnt mot and tax exempt as its modified and not got a ford engine!

Actually, in addition to the CDV category, you can drive at car speed limits if your van is a "Dual purpose vehicle", from memory that's less than 2048kg Gross and with side and rear windows and a row of seats behind the drivers seat. So crewcabs depending on their weight (and also the ratio of the passenger compartment to load compartment).

Also, as I understand it from the DVLA site, the only restriction for TAX exemption is the age of the vehicle. Type of engine running gear fitted, relates to MOT exemption?

I have an ex RAC transit, and it will easily top the legal limit (on a private road officer), so i have to watch how apply the right foot 😁
