Hi Old skool ford members,

I had the pleasure of meeting David on the Oldskoolford stand on Friday at the classic car show and had a very friendly, interesting and informative discussion mostly about square headlights for my Mk1 Escort and finding out the early history of my Escort. This discussion has attracted me to join the site.

I was fortunate enough today to acquire three reasonably good square Mk 1 Escort headlights via a small stall in the motor jumble hall of the show so that means I do not need to follow that subject up further for the foreseeable future.

My next goal is finding out history on my 4 door  1970 Mk1 Escort 1100 Super, Registration number JEV 491H and was wondering if any members knows of this car.

So far I know this:-

• It has spent much of the last 16 years, probably more, off the road.
• MOT in April 2006 shows 9,268 Miles on the clock and all travel since then seems to be to and from the mot centre only.
• In may 2013 it had a disaster of an MOT fail and was not retested (mileage was 9,285)
• It was put back on the road in July 2020 and a massive upgrade to the car was undertaken which also dealt with the many issues in the 2013 MOT
• upgrade work carried out:-
  • 205 Block 2.0 L Pinto engine installed with type 9, 5 speed gearbox
  • World Cup crossmember
  • Burton RS2000 front springs
  • Group 2 short steering couple2 inch lowering blocks with single leaf rear springs
  • new tyres, electronic ignition & starter motor
  • new rear wheel cylinders, shoes, fitting kit
  • Mexico pattern wings
  • Total Respray, including engine bay and boot, in Olympic Blue
  • Mexico decals used to match 4 door shell
• After completion of all works I bought the car in May 2022 and recently had it in Cotswold classic car restoration ltd for further fettling, to bring it up to the standard I wanted, and to get my own MOT which it passed, after failing because one headlight was pointing low (annoying). It drives and handles well and looks great just in time to garage it for the winter. 
• The current mileage is 9,303

I bought a 1987 Ford Capri 280 Brooklands today, in Brooklands green and with 52,000 miles. I couldn't resist it!

I look forward to spending time on this forum and hearing from anyone with information on my Escort JEV 491H

Forgot the pictures of my car. It was 3am when I finished my first joining post, after a long day at the classic car show, and forgot about adding a few pics of my car. The ones I'm attaching are before I started the finer detailing, which will be finished this week, so I'll add a few more pics later in the week. loving the site.

I have had three classic fords with JEV registrations.

Originates from Chelmsford I believe.

interestingly the V5 shows it as a green car but I can't find a trace of green paint on the car, even under the window seals. I mentioned this at the stand in Birmingham and learnt that the original registration was, in the old days, always completed by the dealer and it wasn't unusual for a colour blind dealer to write blue for a green car as they are both in that spectrum.

Both the chassis and VIN plate will show the original colour 👍

Welcome to the forum. As above, we can decode the or8ginal colour from the chassis of vin plate. The colour it's in now looks to be Olympic blue though and I don't think that was an option in 68/69 (H plate)

it was me you spoke to at the NEC, and i do know of an olypic blue one that was registered as green by the dealer, and the assumption was he was colour blind, however that was in 74, scott will know better on the olympic not being available in 68/69

however, the vin and body plates could well have been changed to say olympic blue rather than green, and once blasted you wouldnt find any green paint anywhere

I do like the Olympic blue and darker blue stripe combo.

Olympic Blue will show as code E on your plate. This was available from August 1973 to January 1975.

Hi Ray,

It was great to meet you on the stand at the NEC. Thanks for your time and the chat and the introduction to David (I think I've remembered that right). our chat definitely made we want to join this forum and I'm enjoying browsing it when I get a spare moment. The plot thickens with the olympic blue so I'll keep investigating. cheers. Paul
