Dave Knight Posted September 18, 2023 Report Posted September 18, 2023 Evening all, Looking for a prop shaft for the English axle. According to Haynes it’s a two section shaft. Single shaft for 1100cc. Thanks in advance.
BaileyMex Posted September 18, 2023 Report Posted September 18, 2023 Struggling to remember the name of the place I got mine made, if I remember I'll post here. These guys do all sorts, but I don't think they are cheap > https://www.baileymorris.co.uk/heritage-and-speed Burtons only seem to do single piece ones. These any good? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334987559514?hash=item4dfed0825a:g:GnIAAOSwtBVkvV1a&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8Hb4VYZU%2BDKVvX9hTGGPjQ9QU2VaaXZx14%2BrWFMFwVtDTVTc42spARR5%2FUhqJdO8rIAT0dfkLrXC%2BlrVka2INdlqyZSyQ4X%2F4ieEzDEZgGZQedOjG1ZOXREx%2FCH2gHo69i0BbuMplqLrDaYByumfplo67uqpYkWwNIpkaSdgQVS7JEcQdvqkxZR8CG9Bn0vDjFzpZVMg0hmXekq%2BKw8gcMi5jefAnCUeTvmQynioknJrgCYUTgTQ7yKYsqVISBdjpzNzqhzU7mlFhI6nJeoIZr7ZJfCb%2Fp%2BAqZuzZEb%2BoOQIRF0hWUv680E5E%2FWOxS1IzA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR7K7g5LVYg https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/propshaftscom

Dave Knight Posted September 18, 2023 Author Report Posted September 18, 2023 It’s an SA Borg Warner axle and one piece prop. I’ve got a 3.54 diff for the Timken axle. Can get a a pic of the diff.

Johnny Boy Posted September 18, 2023 Report Posted September 18, 2023 I think rally design sell a single piece one. 1
Dave Knight Posted September 18, 2023 Author Report Posted September 18, 2023 Might be a daft question, what’s the difference between a one piece and a two other than the obvious?

caprimk1v4 Posted September 21, 2023 Report Posted September 21, 2023 There used to be "RECOPROP" in the 70's 80' & 90's done a few for me, very-very good, not sure if they are still about doing Commercial props, used to be based in Luton. I think the shell for a 2 piece prop has some differing metal work to support the center bearing/carrier, a single piece prop needs nothing in the middle of the floor pan, if your only using the car for normal use with out any fancy stuff, the single prop is the way to go, more cost effective, easier to work on, only 2 joints, and I am sure the singles pop up for sale often.

I think that’s the plan. I’ll just be pootling about with a 4 speed, like Mrs Miggins off for bread and milk in her 1.1 Pop Plus.🤣 1
Ray Posted September 25, 2023 Report Posted September 25, 2023 that diff picture is the large flange, can see that by the threads, thats usually associated with the split 2 piece prop, and uses fine thread metric small head bolts and spring washers to secure the prop, theres a place at heathrow that balances them if needed, the 2 piece as std should slot straight into a type 2 box, if your car has the centre mount bracket, then thats your simplest and cheapest option, as the props can be found at places like GS or escort tec, if you dont have the mount bracket, these can normally also be sourced, as its the one part magnum dont fit to their new floors, iirc, it also houses the nuts for the seat belt stalks the mexico used a smaller flange on the diff, this uses nuts and bolts, not just bolts to mount the diff, and uses a sigle piece prop but the gearboxes differ, so i would think possibly the front end where it goes into the box may differ by keeping it a std 2 piece, it will keep your costs down, as a std single piece prop wont mount to that diff without either alteration to the prop, or changing the flange on the diff, and the gearbox end would also still be an unknown area till you have a prop to try 1
Vista Estate Posted September 26, 2023 Report Posted September 26, 2023 Hi Dave, I got a one piece through GS Escorts which actually came from D & F Propshafts in Leeds. They just needed flange size, gearbox type and distance between gearbox tail and diff flange. Give them a call.
