I've put all my paperwork in to DVLA to register my new to me SA imported MK2 Escort van. I had an email from DVLA to say I had not included a photocopy of my driving licence for ID purposes.

At least they emailed me , they usually send it all back with a letter, even though you give them your email and phone number.

I phoned them, and and told them that not only had I taken a picture of the chassis plate printed on an A4 sheet, that I had photo copied my driving licence blown up huge on the other side.

Premating DVLA's incompetence, I also wrote on the A4 sheet that the photo copy of my licence was on the other side of the chassis plate picture.

Just had an email back , to say "oh yes I've found it"

In the past, they have sent it all back saying I hadn't included a cheque, but I had and they lost it. And another time lost my licence.

I don't think I could name a more incompetent outfit.

They didn't think their employees were so stupid that they needed to be instructed on the complex techniques of "Turning the Page Over"

These aren't Ex Australian RTA (Roads and Traffic Authority) workers visiting on a Jobs Visa by any chance? 🤔

I wouldn't usually defend the DVLA but on this occassion I will! Having received many different collections of documents in my professional career, I generally scan over the pile to ensure present and correct and if specifics are required look for those. If they are stapled in top LH corner, you are looking at top RH corner and down - very rarely will you reach the bottom of page to identify what is facing you. Double sided printing is a rarity from everyday printers, and having info on the reverse is not expected. So, IMHO on this instance, give them some slack - at least they are dealing with it and it hasn't been 'lost in the post'!

@Rally Pack 2000 - bear in mind our DVLA is a single entity dealing with approx 35 million registered cars and maybe same again commercials plus (at a guess) 50+ million licences for motorcycles, cars and commercials for the whole of the UK and from one site, whereas in Aus you have multiple state centres dealing with a few millions tops and you still find fault with yours! 😄

I'm having similar problem, I dont have the SA docs to date the car so I sent my docs including a registered owners club confirming date from the VIN, unfortunately, I forgot the NOVA doc, my own fault for doing in a rush before I went to Spain, it was rejected saying it needed the NOVA doc but looking at the form, everything else was ticked so good, so I sent it all back with the NOVA addressed to the guy that had rejected it but another guy opened it and has now rejected it again saying I need the build date from ford as a car club is not good enough.

 

I'm a bit stuck now, how can one guy say the dating was ok and another reject it?

Your best bet is to phone them.

I had a great argument with them, when I converted a van to a camper recently. 

I did get it registered as a camper, after phoning them and discussing why they would not register it as a camper, and me saying it was a camper, with pictures.

Hard work though ☹️

Yep, that means they have even less of an excuse to keep getting things wrong. They dont just do Drivers Licences and Car registrations though they amalgamated a few years back and do all sorts things so they get confused with the wider range of tasks they have to perform. They issue shooters licences too among other things.

Was it a v765 registered club you used? Which one?

If it was, 2nd guy is wrong. If it wasn't, he's right.

it is the mk3 cortina owners club which I am told is registered with the DVLA, this was sorted by Alan at car cave who sends several a month to DVLA

Don't get me started on that little issue - thats down to individual police forces and is a bloody shambles, and they admit it - nearly 5 months for a s/gun renewal ! ! !
