Bollox to the turbos  , they sound shit and don't go any faster than the atmo cossies except on top speed runs on 4 mile long airstrips . There's 100's of turbo cossie mk1/2 escorts and only about 5 quick ones that don't have to cheat with nos !!!!!!!! :scared:

talking shite as usual

If i was going to change my Engine in the Cortina i would go Turbo`d cosworth as Power for your ££££ you cant bear it

But i would have to put a bigger tunnel in the car,Atlas is a must really as we dont want to have 250 + BHP and not be able to launch it of the line,

Or worry about planting your right foot and you snapping a shaft..

There are a few x-flows that snap Qualfe shafts!!!

Brakes...no point in having all that power and not being able to stop it...

So IMO when it comes to YB turbo powered think of a figure and then double it...Then you near the price it is going to cost in the long run..

That is if the engine is a good one otherwise you will be paying out at £2500 for a good engine that will last. .

So if you have the money Go for it,

But i decided to keep it Xe and just upgrade my engine and still have loads of fun...

Out of a bend a YB turbo`d car on full boost and 175/185 tyres will be spinning up and an got N/A car will be going past it...

So its a case of as usual...Each to there own but i must admit i love the Cosworth YB turbo engine

what would you recommend on an un arched mk1 to be able to get the traction?

By that do you mean what would I do to an unarched Escort to get the best traction ?

Or would i fit an Atlas .... I'd always fit an Atlas .. got 2 cars out there unarched but because of rules we have to stick with the english and the constant shaft breaking

you must have the wrong shafts in the english axle if they keep breaking

as you put atlas shafts in ,instead of english

 2.0 litre duratecs are in all the new ford shoppers etc , they cost a bomb to fit in an escort and get running and will be slow unless you buy a race tuned version from mountune , cosworth , scholar etc

why not xe ? :lol::wink:

They've built a reputation in rallying for being a big power engine and SBD who've been working on these motors for years can get 280bhp out of them.

BUT

Out the box.. or should i say out of the rotten Astra GTE they are only 150bhp... now a stock 2.0 Zetec on Carbs is 160-165bhp all day long, simple cams and a bit of head work will see 180 easily.

A low mileage ST170 engine (£600 from a breakers) with a £95 vernier pulley on the exhaust cam will see 180bhp and its got all the uprated bits in it anyway.

XE was the way in rallying.. but we're not rallying and all the rally boys are ditching the XE in favour of the Duratec anyway, lighter, shorter and already making stonking power. Simple Cams & Direct To Head Roller Barrells will see over 200bhp

The myth that putting one in an Escort is expensive is now dispelled as Dave at Retro Ford has sorted a wet sump out as well as mounts and a water rail, alternator kit, radiator, bellhousing etc.

As for Cossie motors in Classic Fords, everyone makes the same mistake. They treat their classic ford like it was a sierra... and go for a big turbo.

The trick is to go for either a roller bearing GT 350 type turbo or if you aint got that sort of money, go for a small turbo Escort Cosworth Turbo or a T25 like they used on the Rouse 302R & 304R Cossies.

That way, you get no lag, you are on boost almost as soon as you are moving, you dont get that ditch finding kick in the back you get with a T34 or a T4 and you'll blow Gaz and his Pintosaurus right back into the Jurrasic Car Park...

Lets face it, unless you are going for some sort of top speed record who wants to be slow as fook at 30mph just so you can do 150mph ?

Trust me I know these thing... as I've got a Cossie with a T34 on it and I had an RS500 with a monstrous T4 on it.

Had to laugh at the zetec story above  . Fit a zetec and it will run 15's or 16's and never get in the 13's even if you spent a fortune tuning it . How many fast zetecs have we seen in the last 15 years then , errrrr NONE , but there's tons of quick pintos !!!!!!! :wiggle: Vauxhalls are miles better than zetecs , zetecs are shit , that's why they cost £20 :lol::lol:

sorry turbosport zetec lovers  , when i see a quick one THEN i'll believe you , untill then buy a vauxhall before a zetec as there's lots of tasty XE'S you can see instead of the zetec of dreams !!!!!!! :shit:

out of interest gaz, use your 1/4mile knowledge of engine dynamics to answer this question correctly and win a prize.

lights go green.

driver 1 launches well, screams up the 1/4 and thinks he has won at 80mph terminal speed.

driver 2 launches in a wheelspinning slide, gets control back and hammers it, he flashes past driver 1 at the line to win by a tenth of a sec at a terminal speed of 130mph, then carries on to 190mph for kicks.

which has the most powerfull engine.

your street cred is riding on this one gaz ............

jokes aside,Each to there own,And if your happy with your engine and it gives you what you want,Then happy days..

But back to the Tread,Twinkle...If you really fancy Going Turbo YB,

Just make sure you dont scrimp or try and save when getting your engine built or mapped as you will paying out twice. .

On engine and getting it set up again

Because if its not done right it will go BANG!!! as wiill shafts and diffs if there not right...Go with what you really want Fella

Sorry I didn't write that question very well, I know they come out of modern Ford shoppers, what I meant was what model are they most commonly found in and what year they came into production
