Guest MK1gaz Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 out of interest gaz, use your 1/4mile knowledge of engine dynamics to answer this question correctly and win a prize. lights go green. driver 1 launches well, screams up the 1/4 and thinks he has won at 80mph terminal speed. driver 2 launches in a wheelspinning slide, gets control back and hammers it, he flashes past driver 1 at the line to win by a tenth of a sec at a terminal speed of 130mph, then carries on to 190mph for kicks. which has the most powerfull engine. your street cred is riding on this one gaz ............ Well a car with a 80 mph terminal speed would never beat one with a 130 mph one unless they forgot to fit any tyres !!!!!!!! .
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 MarkIImark , it's best to get a duratec from a mazda . It's a mazda engine anyway that's why no ford bits bolt to it . It's in the latest fords c-maxs, focus , transit , mondeo etc
105Speed Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Dave Colledges Estate car, which is a 2.0 on 45's on Dunnell 2d ignition runs mid 14's Jon Rhodes ST170 powered Anglia runs mid 14's Gaz... get off the internet, get out of Sarf Laandan and get your boat anchor to the Pod and put your money where your mouth is.... Oh and Daves Mountune Duratec runs 13.01 That was an engine that had done ZERO miles, just dyno time to run it in, in a MkII Escort with a Capri 2.8i Type 9, no fancy gearset, a welded diff and full trim. XE's are just sooo last century.... Morley didnt set any worlds on fire with his on Throttle Bodies...

Exactly , a mountune 280 bhp spec £10,000 full monty duratec runs the same time and terminal speed as a 220ish bhp N.A. cossie mk2 escort on the same day . My Harris pinto ran a 13.8 @ 97 mph on street tyres in a full weight mk1 escort with a set of twin 45's and points !!!!!!!!! So in other words FASTER than all the throttle bodied £5000+ zetec installs out there !!!!!!!!

BIG G Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 this thread is sounding like an old site i used to visit remember one love people
puddy Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Just read this thread, and what no one mentions with a turbo cossie YB is the real reason for fitting one, grin factor! Go out in a turbo cossied old skool motor ,and you won't want anything else ! How often do you meet the sarrrf london massive at a traffic light grand prix? How often do you go up pod and try and run a time ? 99.9% of the time you will be scaring yourself silly and enjoying it for the main reason you built it,to have FUN! puddy ps. The kudos is great as well...............

Admin Vista Posted March 12, 2007 Admin Report Posted March 12, 2007 hey Twink, now all the "my engine's better" handbagging seems to have died off for a bit There's a Cosworth motor up for grabs http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... highlight=
Retromotorsport Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Puddy... the other thing that isnt mentioned on here is the fact that 9 months ago according to the laws in Gazicstan you had to have a Pinto ... nothing else would do .. then the laws changed in Gazicstan and you had to have a "16 valve pinto" and that was after the powers that be rubbished all 16 valve engines as being slower than the 8 valve pinto . The chief in Gazicstan still rubbishes most 16valve engines unless its a YB (na of course as turbo's are cheating) or the XE (funny he has one for sale). The beauty of all these engines is the fun.. yes you can have a x-flow and the instal costs are almost zero as the cars came with them. Yes you can have a pinto ..installed for not a lot Yes you can have a Zetec installed for UNDER 2 k (not over 5k like it costs in Gazicstan)speak to Retroford Yes you can have a Duratec .... an XE .. a YBT .. a BB Ford... a LS1 ... SBC ... S2000 ... Hayabuse... or anything else YOU want Its a Forum.. and like all forums you will have a mixture of people saying this is right this is wrong .. But just read between the lines .. An engine that can scream down the 1/4 mile is great, but will it be good for the rest of the cars miles.. ie you spend 1% of your annual milage at the pod.. and 99% on the roads .. of which maybe 40% can be on the motorway. Now doing 7000rpm at 70 mph is no fun after a few miles . One of the most comfortable cars to drive out of the older ford range is the standard sierra cossie... eats miles and goes like fook.. and its a standard car, your mum can drive it .. theres no reving it to 4k just because it has a 320 cam in it so bugger all torgue , which is fun ...for a day but gets embarrasing as you get older. At the end of the day you have to ask yourself what YOU want, not someone elses idea of a car is . Some people say that i reckon you should all have arches and linked suspension, but on here and other forums i have said, if you have a standardish car keep the rest standard.. when fitting a cossie engine i say you may want to replace the axle and fit a larger tunnel.. it will go and smoke the tyres , spin sideways all day long.. etc .. but you dont need to link or arch it.. however if you want grip, and want the best in handling, then you have to go further than a set of lesser tramp bars and a polybush set. What it boils down too is a few who have a cossie will say theres nothing to beat it and a few who have XE's will say theres nothing to beat it And then you have your pinto fans ... and your x-flow fans, and your zetec/duratec fans.. Then you have the ones who will say ... this is what it can cost, do this and perhaps this and go and have fun, they are great engines and if you want one ,,,go for it. They are the ones you should listen too .. Cossy Max summed it up by saying he loves his XE ... but he loves a YBT too, hes got an XE and he loves what it does to his car... and theres the words HIS CAR .. not someones elses idea of what a car should be
4parajon Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 How have I missed this thread. Gazicistan.....fookin luv that Gary My twopennorthworth for you Twinkle(if you have'nt lost interest in this thread yet anyway). I had my CG YBT fitted recently because thats what I'd always wanted after the pinto died. I luv it and IMO it's better than the pinto I had on '45s. Its nicer in traffic, its great on the motorway and when I boot it it goes like fook. Mines a pretty standard(ish) spec though, I did'nt want anything mental. Fortunately for me I did'nt have to have a new tunnel etc it pretty much slotted straight in in the Capri. I have'nt touched the brakes yet (watch this space though)and I'll see how long the standard Atlas lasts before getting a Fostek one. To get the car to this spec has cost about 5k. The engine was £2750 and was a rebuilt unit built to what I wanted, the rest went on parts like T5 box, rad, filter etc and having it fitted. I could have probably done it myself but it would have taken me ages and I wanted it done. I'm glad I paid Neil to do it, he's done a great job and I'm now driving it. As Gary has said though ££'s per bhp, I can't think of another engine which will drop straight into most OSF's with a similar figure to a YBT. Whatever you choose though as long as your happy with it mate, thats all that matters
Twinkle Posted March 12, 2007 Author Report Posted March 12, 2007 blimey i go offline to cut up a ramge rover for the weekend and come back to find i opened a real tin of worms what are you lot like the car will be used on the road and the strip but like gary pointed out mainly for fun and some serious arse out actioni have never owned or beeon out in a cossie and just wondered how much a basic install would be

Retromotorsport Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Gazicstan... I didnt invent it .. it was coined on another thread ...
105Speed Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 I have to say I am disappointed, a Gaz and his 'By the Power of Pinto' post on Turbosport got to over 40 pages in no time... Oh and Gaz, Dave was also on road tyres and can you imagine how tight a freshly built engine is, now its run in and he's made a few adjustments to his exhaust manifold then he should be making his mark this season at the Pod
105Speed Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Gazicstan... I didnt invent it .. it was coined on another thread ... Like 'Pintosaurus' although I will stake my claim to 'from the Jurrasic Car Park'
