I didnt invent it .. it was coined on another thread ...

Steve Greenald was the first person i heard say " pintosaurus"

But then he's a dictionary of loving terms for engines

:lol::lol: Pintosaurus, funny but I have to point out that it's either a very brave or very stupid man who chooses to mess with a dinosaur.

3 Jurassic park films (or is it four, I forget :? ) and the dinosaur kicks ass every time 8)

I thought the 2.3 duratec was the one to have not the 2.0 :?

2.3 is the way to go if you've got a huge Pinto Building budget..

But if you're like most of us then just get a 2.0 out of a mondeo, stick some cams in it, some direct to head roller barrels and you should see just over 200bhp

Nice, easy and cost effective reliable, light modern engine

Its nowt to do with me, Its just a mate has been slowly building a Mk1 rally car and was hunting for nearly 12 months for a 2.3 duratec. He eventually bought one from america as they are a lot more common over there apparently, because over here they only came in a very few galaxys.

He already has a NA YB mk5 escort rally car that he never use's.

He just wanted a Mk1 with a 2.3 duratec

So

XE, light powerful and agile = Velociraptor (let's face it it's pretty long in the tooth too)

Pinto, big heavy & ignorant but lots of grunt and immensely strong in short bursts = T-Rex

Zetec, recent development, not yet as commonly found as earlier beasts but packs a savage punch when properly exercised = Tarbosaurus

Duratec, can catch out the unwary and has potential but is yet to show it's true worth = Triceratops

And the moral of the story?

Later beasts may be faster and more agile, but all can be caught out by the savagery of the T-Rex when they display over confidence or fail to keep a close eye on what's going on around them.

Right I suppose I'd better do some work now.

Oops, knew I'd forgotten something

YBT - Ageing beasty that's aggressive in stock trim but once gentetically modified, flys with the best of modern lumps beating them in many instances - Pterodactyl

How's that?

Good chat guys

I must admit, i've never been a lover of the YB... But after going to Norway and seeing some of the awesome cars both over there and here, you simply cannot argue with the bugger.

If i had the time, the money and the car i'd have a stage 1 YB in a standard arched Mk1 Escort running 175/50 tyres... No it wouldn't have any grip, no it won't be setting the world alight across the 1/4 mile, but it will be the one thing that epitomises old skool fords - Fun! (that said i do have a nice mk1 Cortina...)

The YB in N/A form is a screamer and after researching it, i'd love one of those in my RS (if i ever get around to building it) purely because it's a step up from a Pinto.

So Lee, are you going to do it or not?

I've been out in a few cossied escorts and they are simply awesome, I even started to collect bits and pieces to build one myself (admittedly this was partly becuase everyone else was doing it at the time  ).

However, I decided that whilst the cossie'd escorts are amazing and thrilling to drive, it just wasn't the same as a pinto with a big set of webers snarling for air at full chat - its unmistakable and brings a smile to my face each time I hear it. Whilst it may be heavy, old and have a dated design, for me this is what makes them old skool - its all part of that old skool ford package. If I wanted a modern engine with more power I'd buy a modern car - not molest it into my osf. With all these modern engines being fitted I cant help but look at them and view it as 50% old skool and 50% modern. It's not genuinely old skool anymore imho.

I suppose what I'm saying is that the car with the more modern engine is a better car for it, but it doesn't quite have the soul of an old skool ford with the original engines that made us appreciate them in the first place.

All imho of course :mrgreen::thumbsup:
