He’s clearly got taste. Astonishing isn’t it, that just because he drives a car that doesn’t fit his supposedly narrative and he’s probably got a few quid, he should be wafting around in a supercar. The press are dreadful. I remember when Jurgen Klinsmann, the Tottenham striker in 94, turning up in a battered old Beetle for training and was lambasted for it. These are the types of blokes you could go for a pint with.5 points

A work colleague of mine produces resin models of our Ford classics in various states of completeness. He is in the process of doing one for my estate. Prices are reasonable. If you are interested in that elusive model for Christmas why not contact Rob Card though his site. He has a few model templates available so send him a message through the site link😊 Here is the escort estate link, but there is a message function as well. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/4553115008/classic-ford-escort4 points

I hold the Rally Pack Register for the past 30 years (when I created it). There aren't many on it as most cars you see aren't actually GS Rally Packs but opted Rally Pack extras on a GL made more confusing that both are stamped GLs. British codes and Australian ones are completely different. If you can send me a image of the compliance plates that would be good. One hurdle though is you need to make a few posts I think before you can privately message. Don' t post the plate pics publicly send them to me in a private message. But feel free to post images of the car in this thread would be helpful to start with and of the engine bay inner right hand guard. Can you start by telling me what month in 79 it is? Because the Plate ID says GL because Rally Packs use a GL shell as all Australian shells are strengthened that is not a clear indicator if its a genuine Rally Pack or not. That requires an in person inspection or the Certificate from Ford Australia if it left the factory as a GS Rally Pack. But with enough photos I can usually tell if its more likely to be one or not. Raw Orange is the best colour for Rally Packs3 points

Three of my favourite things in one video 1. Scotland 2. Mk2 Escorts 3. Big Country Seriously though, mk2 Escort jam sandwiches unable to catch two lads twos up on a GP125? That's even more unbelievable than holding up buses with a puffer gun full of itching powder! 😆3 points

This thread needs a bump too. A bloke goes to the local council to apply for a job in the office. The interviewer asks him, "Are you allergic to anything?" He replies: "yes, caffeine." "Have you ever worked for the public service before?" "Yes, I was in the army," he says, "I was in Iraq for two tours." The interviewer says: "That will give you five extra points toward employment." Then he asks: "Are you disabled in any way?" The guy says: "Yes, a mine exploded near me when I was there and I lost both of my testicles." The interviewer grimaces and then says: "OK, you've got enough points for me to take you on right away. Our normal hours are from 8am to 4pm but you can start tomorrow at 10am, and carry on starting at 10am every day." The bloke is puzzled and asks: "If the work hours are from 8am to 4pm, why don't you want me here until 10am? I'm not looking for any special treatment." "What you have to understand is that this is a council job," the interviewer says. "For the first two hours, we just stand around drinking coffee and scratching our balls. There's no point in you coming in for that.3 points

I bent the fastest Mk2 ever made, ever so slightly in the middle, chasing a burglar who ran around a corner just as I drove up. Around the corner was a long flight of concrete steps.............. I had to shoulder barge the door with my delicate 6'5" 17 stone body to get out and grab the little shit, and the exhaust decided to run away in the opposite direction. I wonder why Ford sold us the 1100 popular 2Dr marked 'Police' and didn't use it for their works rally team?3 points

Im very miffed about this, they think they can just walk into my yard and make a video about my car without permission! 😅3 points

Ha, the "shitter" bit made me laugh. Up here in the north we'd say a "nail" or a "blender" too, so it sounds like it's a pretty universal bit of old-school slang for a banger you use for getting about. Fair play to Matt LeBlanc, though. A tidy old motor that gets you from A to B is a lot more honest than rolling up in a supercar just because the papers expect it. Half the time the cars people brag about are the ones that spend more time in the garage than on the road.3 points

Indeed. But as usual nowadays the question is how much is this the original car. Helmut Stein from Germany owned his Escort for almost 30 years. And was sold some time ago. Historic Motorsport worked on the car some 7 years ago for Darrell Taylor. So which one is the real one? Probably neither. https://www.racecarsdirect.com/Advert/Details/142431/ford-escort-rs-1800-wrc https://www.Retards Club.com/100063763002503/posts/here-at-historic-motorsport-we-are-very-fortunate-to-work-on-some-really-special/2517974014882598/ https://www.historicmotorsport.net/projects/mtw-200-p/ https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=140&t=20644793 points

The tombstones were standard option but they didnt suit the sports image of the rest of the car (the highest sports model of the Escort range at that time) so in my cars case the dealer themselves arranged for replacements to rectify that. Ford themselves reacted with their version of the droop snoot RS2000 came out 2 years later in 1979 had Australian version of the Scheel seats2 points

Hi all Recently bought a mk1 in beautiful maize yellow, with a 2.1 stage 3 pinto. Currently gutting the interior and re-wiring much of it. Years since I had mk1 - 1300 GT in Tawny Brown - and I'm loving every minute of ownership. I also have a TR4 and a classic Mini Cooper but the escort is my new love (don't tell the other cars though!). I've found this forum a brilliant place to get expert info so thought it was time to join properly, not just lurk. Likely to begin asking daft questions soon, so apologies in advance 😉 Jeremy2 points

I’ll be there hopefully on the Friday, getting the train down. I am recovering from a double hernia and Lipoma operation, my sack looks like a dropped lasagne. I should be walking by then.2 points

Given the split bumpers are a hacksaw special I suspect the roof conversion may be too. Id check if there is a sag in the middle and the doors open.2 points

MK2 Cross member. Mk2 Hubs. Will take some pictures for you of set-up showing front if you like if it helps. Lots of people use Milton as it's more straight forward but MK2 Escort will work if things are done correctly and all geometry is correct. MK2 Engine mounts Also using MK2 Escort Quick Rack with long RS2000 Long Tie Rods so dont have to use extenders, and also have adjustable TCA's.2 points

Statistics show that 95 per cent of the EVs sold in Australia are still on the road today. The rest were able to be driven home.1 point

Restless Natives, that takes me back. The chase scenes are properly daft, a Mk2 on a hill road should have had those two on the GP125 sorted in no time. Though to be fair, the Mk2s in those old films always seem to handle like they're on ice, so maybe that's the explanation. Nige, a GT125 and a Mk2 is a proper combo for the time. Skids and Big Country both came out of Fife, so you weren't far off the same patch anyway. Did you keep either of them?1 point

I would like an R10 Gordini, When I was a kid I wanted a Renault 4, with a 2" roof chop, boxed arches, and R12 Gordini running gear. Sadly life n kids got in the way. Now i'm old enough to have reached the "Can't be arsed" point in life.😁1 point

Hi folks, It's been longer than a while. Nice to browse through the posts, see some familiar names and cars, and bring back lots of lovely feelings from my OSF ownership days.... After 13 years out of the UK, it's safe to say that I am not coming back permanently, so I figured I should clear out my storage when I am back next month. I have some Mk1 Capri panels that I need to offload and, rather than mess about on eBay / FB Marketplace, my pal suggested that a car restoration place might seek to take them off me in one go. They are stored near High Wycombe, so can anyone please recommend OSF-familial restorers that I can ring up? Thanks in advance 😊1 point

1 RS 6x13 weighs 4.8 kgs; size is 40x40x20 cm . From UK I think Parcelforce is the way to go. From EU probably UPS. One parcel with 2 wheels with UPS to Aus would be approx. 150 Euro!1 point

Hit my 7th decade this year, as long as I wake up with a pulse I consider it a bonus, and if I feel down I just start my old Xflow and even a 10 minute drive has me grinning like a happy monkey. Welcome to the Monkey house!😂1 point

Englishman: "That your dog?" Welshman: "Aye" Englishman: "Mind if I speak to him?' Welshman: "Dog don't talk.” Englishman: Hey dog, how's it going?" Dog: "Doing all right." Welshman: (look of shock) Englishman: Is this your owner?" (Pointing at the Welshman) Dog: "Yep." Englishman: How's he treating you?" Dog: "Real good. He walks me twice a day, feeds me great food and takes me to the park once a week to play." Welshman: (Look of total disbelief!) Englishman: "Mind if I talk to your horse?" Welshman: "Horse don't talk.” Englishman: "Hey horse how's it going?" Horse: "Cool." Welshman: (Extreme look of shock!) Englishman: "Is this your owner?" (Pointing to the Welshman) Horse: "Yep." Englishman: "How's he treating you?" Horse: "Pretty good, thanks for asking, he rides me, brushes me down often and keeps me in a nice stable to protect me from the weather." Welshman: (Look of total amazement!) Englishman: "Mind if I talk to your sheep?" Welshman: "That sheep's a liar, don't believe a word he says!!”1 point
