Period mods done on your average OSF ?

Today we tweak this and that with uprated stuff but what did our dads or brothers do ?

1977, might have to go back a few more years for me!, in the 60's my dad had an Anglia, DIY sprayed, wide 5" steels with massive 165 tyres, & a pancake air filter.

Then a MK1 Escort 1100, the same 5J wheels, DIY motorsport orange spray job from metallic brown, DIY sardine can sunroof - he cut the hole but didn't do the fabric part until 2 weeks later, my mum used to drive me & my brother about with us two holding onto a sheet of polythene when it rained.

He also had a pop that he bolted a jag engine direct to the chassis rails - it twisted the chassis first time out!.

In 77 he'd probably have been hitting a Lucas fuel injection unit on a Triumph 2500 PI with something heavy and blunt! - Now there's a rare sight these days.

COBRA SLOTS

FLUFFY DICE

NAMES ACROSS THE FRONT WINDOW

Also instead of lowering the car (mk1/MK2 escort) the rear use to be jacked up so the diff was showing and lights fitted around/on it, so when cruising down SOUTHEND sea front at night the 'N'SF was looking the b**locks!! My oldman told me that..sounds different to slamming the OSF on its nuts!!! :):):)

Wasn`t it all furry interiors back then proper pimp style, purples and greens, with jacked up chrome suspensions and all cars fitted with CB radios.

Ford Anglia, hub caps off, half the exhaust taken off,vw mute stuffed up the remainder, furry stuff on the dash and I removed the front passenger seat so I could carry motorbike parts (frames,engines,forks,wheels)around....like you do....

My dad had the mini and then upgraded to the Mk1 tina, which my mum had a gold flash on. He also painted the whitewalls and fitted the Astrali steering wheel, though in 1977 he had the Mk1 estates and crew chiefed for his mate who rallied an anglia and later a Mk1 mex, but at weekends he'd borrow the Elite  he had the hair for it too, proper starsky & hutch :lol:http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=39071

When I was ickle, my brother set about resurecting his Mk1 in the late 80s, it cost £250 and was really a scrapper, he made up all repair sections and tidied the body. When he got it the gearbox was in the boot and each wheel was odd. It ended up with cobra buckets, lowered it an inch and fitted 7 x 13 five spokes (they say clearance is poor with them, check out the tyres!). My brother in law did the blacked windows, smoked taillights, cherrybombs, dixie horns and CB aerial on his tina though
