Admin Vista Posted April 5, 2007 Admin Report Posted April 5, 2007 The phrase "Freeze the balls off a brass monkey" began in the Navy The Brass Monkey was the square plate that held the cannon ball pyramids next to the cannons When it was very cold it would contract, and being brass as opposed to iron, did so at a different rate to the cannon balls, hence they'd all fall off and the phrase freeze the balls off a brass monkey was born. "It ain't over till the Fat lady sings" began at sea too, anyone wanna hear that one?
Essex Boy Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 The reason we have a 70MPH speed limit is because back in the 60's a racing team speed tested an AC Cobra Daytona race car at 190+ MPH down the M1 The shitty government didn't see the funny side of it and imposed the limit twats

Smudger105e Posted April 5, 2007 Author Report Posted April 5, 2007 Did you know where to phrase 'toe the line' comes from? In the house of commons there is a red line on the carpet in front of the benches. When the speaker said 'toe the line' the MP's had to stand behind the line, and they couldn't reach each other with their swords.
