Nobody stopped

Nicola was driving my Cappa yersterday and it boiled over in traffic on the M2. It was dark and cold and people were driving past really slow.

No members of the public stopped to see if she was alright.

A highway patrol car stopped in the end and gave her some water.

 

Honestly.......... would you normally stop to help??

She reckons people are wary of helping girls on there own incase it scares them.

Well its bloody dangerous to stop on a motorway even on the hard shoulder! i'd of stopped as she was in an osf, but if in a new car i wouldnt bother as i know i wouldn't be able to fix it

I think I would have dropped my window and asked the question rather than stopping in the first instance. Think a lot of women would equally be wary of a stranger approaching them.

Depending on the lady's response would then dictate my actions, either stop and try to help or move along.

It would depend on what they're driving and the location. But like people have said it may freak the lady if you stop on the dark hard shoulder and you're on your own.

The worry of scaring a lonely doris scenario was our conclusion last night. Bit sad if that is the case.

Bit like not asking if a lost child is OK for fear of being called a paedo!

It was not dangerous to stop, as the traffic was moving at a snails pace

if im not in a hurry i ALWAYS stop especially if its a doris on her own or with children because lets be honest if its a bloke and hes got a flat tyre he should be chaning it himself the lazy fook lol

 

 

but i have had women refuse to even look at me let alone accept my help which is fair enough i spose i just need a im not a rapist badge lol

i would be wary of stopping as it could be a "honeytrap" - using the stranded doris to lure you to stop, then a gang jump out and steal your car while you're helping.

 

if i was the one broken down i would stay in the car with the doors locked and phone for help

 

if i saw a doris stranded alone, or with children i might possibly call the Police, depending on the circumstances

Thats a tricky one !! I allways stop if i see a crash or a broken down car and i have helped lots of people on the side of the road with flat tyres/water leaks ect ect. It dosent take much to stop and ask if someome is ok or if they want help and even if they dont want a hand they ALLWAYS say thanks for stopping. Liveing out in the countryside i think people are more friendly than in towns citys ect which is a bit sad but its the world we live in. I would have to think twice about stopping for a doris on her own though you can do more harm than good, freaking them out ect ect.

I've said no, but not because I don't care more because I'd feel just as much at risk as she would. 15/20 years ago I'd have stopped without a seconds thought, back then I picked up hitch hikers all the time too.

 

Now? Sorry, I read far too many reports of muggings and car jackings to take any risks whatsoever, especially if my wife is in my car with me. It's a pretty sad state of affairs for us all to be in but there we are.

 

Strangely though I would still intervene if I saw something going on in the street.

over here in guernsey... i would stop and help if there car was in a awkward place or they looked like they needed help but to be fair here most people are 2 mins away from someone they know!

if i was in england i prob would if i werent in a rush anywhere and they looked like they needed help.

It's also an offence to stop on the motorway or to park on the hard shoulder and will get you 3 points for either offence so that's another reason why some of the people were driving without stopping.

If i was on my own (without kids) and it was an OSF I would stop... but not if it was a girl on her own with a new car

I stop all the time for maidens in distress but as I drive a recovery truck they always get stroppy and tell me to bugger off, I think they assume i will charge them and this is not so Also as said b4 it is an offence for joe public to stop on a m/way. Sad to say I find these days suspicion and fear rule on the roads

the other day on the way back from leeds (in the landy) i stopped and helped a doris who had overheated in traffic gave her a big bottle of water and told her to get her fan looked at lol

 

a bloke in a focus ST tht didn tknow how to change a tyre

 

a doris thast had run out of petrol (luckily i had a jerry can in the boot) and she gave me £20 for a fivers worth of petrol !! just because it saved her calling out the recovery ppl

 

another doris tht stopped on the hard shoulder with her flashers on but then told me she was just making a phonecall

 

a guy with a merc tht didnt have his locking wheelnut key (i still had my butchered 17mm socket from taking mine off the capri and it fitted his so he was gratefull lol )

I always stop if I can. Years ago when I was about 18/19 I helped a girly in a Fiesta who had broken down at about 2 AM. I got her car running and followed her home in case it happened again and she gave me her number and told me to ring her so she could take me out for a drink, got more than a drink out of it

i'm not sure on this one, i think, if i had my tools in the car then i would, but i see what people are saying about being suspicious.

Know what u mean, I have 300 quids worth of extiguishers on the truck and a biggun in the capri extinguisher!) but I dont use em unless lives are at risk. I got pissed off refilling them at my exspense a long time ago
