a simple question turns into another stupid debate AGAIN. question for sam. did you mean quickest track car or quickest up the 1/4 mile?. theres a big difference in car and gearing between the two sports. mine dont handle for s**t around a track cos its built for the 1/4 so it runs streight and fairley quick for what it is. theres two different debates to be had here :? KEEP IT REAL MY BROTHERS 8)

What's the fastest lap time for an oldskoolford around brands hatch then as we know the 1/4 mile times now ? Times for turbos + N.A. and for street legal cars (and that includes the tyres  ) and for race cars that have to go on trailers and use slicks

Really i expected both. And more, just out of interest i wanted to see who had what and what it was good for.

It is all very interesting but personally i would like to know more about circuit cars or road cars on the circuit. i.e mk1Mark's cortina, gorgeous car, quick engine went well round brands, as did micks mk1 escort. Then there's Kev's big power red mk2 RS, now i know what he and it can do....etc.

just wanted more info about other peoples car is all :oops:

BRING ON THE BRANDS TRACK DAY!!!!

Icky`s orange Mk2 with the HT 2.2 pinto and them 2 Gaz would be a great trackday to watch and see if we could keep near em

But as Wayne said a fast track car does`nt make a quick 1/4 mile car...

But i will play on a track with anyone even if i do have to slow down for them to keep up.......Any car under a minute is a quick road car imo

Oh alright see if i can keep up with some of the quicker guys ...

But im well up for loads of track day action this year..

And if it breaks fix it...

And thanks Sam,

Next time out come out in the Cortina for a blast around the track

And Gaz i think both of them will be back out this year just a bit quicker :lol::thumbsup:

Shame there's not an official timing slip etc from brands hatch to show a fastest lap really . Too many bullshit lap times recorded on mates watches for my liking  .

Are there any circuits out there that time you officially then or is the "what's the fastest oldskoolford around a track" question dead in the water after 1+1/2 pages then ?

Only way to do it is to have people on the pit wall with stop-watches, as you would on a 'normal' test day when you wouldn't get official timing anyway.

OBVIOUSLY these would need to be unbiased folk, but if you're genuinely interested in how fast you are around Brands then there isn't a problem.

I'd love to take my car round. It might not be that good on the bends, but on the straights......... :D:lol::D:lol::D:lol:

You wouldnt be allowed to time them if its a normal trackday session ...

stupid rule about not trying to hard ...

but if the cars go out at intervals then you would probably be allowed 5 cars 10 seconds apart ... if they are evenly matched they wont catch each other up .. over say 8 laps ... 10 minute session

That say .. 5 cars every 15minutes .. 30 cars would take around 1.5 hours ... so .... if a magazine would pick this up i think Mr Palmer and MSV would go for it .

Could be a new magazine/trackday formula .. 5 hour free pitlane 2 hour timed runs

:? Lots of stupid rules on trackdays for some reason , i especially like these = don't make any noise with your car  , don't wheelspin or slide around in your car  , no racing  , no overtaking on the bends  , WTF , :dope:

Whats the quickest car here on the strip?

Turbo and N/A

What about race cars?

Fastest lap times round circuits etc?

What sort of spec you running on your car?

How much BHP does your car have?

Just curious!!!

Will be interesting to see how Matt's performs with its new 300bhp Duratec, was quick enough with the cossie.
It may be slower  , too much "peak bhp" can be a disadvantage sometimes mate . Just look at the turbos for example , lots of "peak bhp" and nothing where it matters  . I don't think it will be slower though somehow

I thought Steves Engine had more torque than the old YB of Matts

At 4000rpm the cossie made 120ft/lb

the duratec ......... 150ft/lb

cossie has a flat curve with 140ft/lb at 5000 to 8000 peaking at 149.7 ft/lb

the duratec flat curves with 170ft/lb at 5000 to 8800 peaking at 195 ft/lb

Thats some monster torque if teh cossie was a torquey engine :D

At the x-over of 5250rpm the cossie has 140bhp the duratec 180bhp

Funny how SBD's duratec westfield was slower than it's SBD vauxhall XE brother at the brighton speed trials with all that extra power then :? . Also funny how pinto escorts are faster around brands hatch than yb turbo ones are with much less power and torque everywhere as well :? . Weird how it works out isn't it ? The proof of the pudding is in the eating as the saying goes , foooooooooooking true as well

Anyway , back to the drag racing (acceleration) talk as this gets people posting  . Most people run faster at Avon park raceway compared to Santa Pod so i was wondering about the others as well then ? Would you say that Santa pod is the slowest drag strip in the U.K. or not ? Most peoples personal bests are all at Avon Park or somewhere else away from Santa Pod , so where's the best place to get a super quick time then apart from Malta or the U.S. ?

Dog shit my best was at the pod
You probably left your sandwiches in the boot then that day mate , all that extra weight gave you some grip

Most people i know go quicker at Avon Park compared to the Pod , perhaps they got lucky with the weather conditions or Avon Parks end section only looks downhill !!!!!!!

my opinion is that the pod track as come a long way in recent times due to better preperation. aint run there for a while but recon its as quick as anywhere else now days
