U right, the last set I had might as well have been chocolate. :(

Sorry to hear that mate

You could knock some up out of Curley Wurleys or on a more serious note Andy Robbinson Race cars could probably knock some up for you.

SAMBO QUOTE

(Gaz, i do wonder that how you can slate other peoples cars for having no interior, i.e back seats and heaters etc but do really quick strip times.

you boast that your car has full street trim but what are your 1/4 mile times?

It seems as though now you have the new N/A, 5 minute install cossie, you will have an excuse if it isnt that quick on the strip as you have "full road trim"!!!

If your serious about racing and want a fast car, lose the weight. It is a simple question of physics!!! )

I can see what you're saying but we really then have "Road legal race cars" and in Gaz's word "Comfy road cars". If stripping weight is the way you want to go great but there are those of us who want to take 4 people and luggage in a warm reasonably quiet "comfy road car" but still be quick on the strip and the circuit, this in my eyes is a true fast ROAD car!

Please don't think I am knocking the light weights as I dont mean to I am just saying that going that way isn't really practical for all of us. I would go light weight myself if performance was the ONLY goal!

this question will always cause a debate ...

But if we are talking about fast ROAD cars then 1/4 mile times mean nothing ... the times have to come from a road course ..

Somewhere that the car has to brake, accelerate, and turn.

Top Gear test cars, yes the do a 1/4 mile test, but the board shows the lap times not what did the 1/4 in the quickest time.

I would love to see a RWYB at Brands ... no rules as such.. just bring your car and do a lap.. its your car, you run it how you like .. if you want a noisy stripped out car then have it, if you want a full trim car then have it ... the only thing that you can compare between two different cars is the power to weight ratio.. and Brands is a good leveler of this .. quite often we see cars that have vast power but are heavy run with lighter and less powerfull cars, and yet at Snett they piss all over the lighter car. And visa versa.. At Lydden the lighter cars run quicker ... So Brands is a good testing place.

And at the end of the day ... just have a chart that shows

Power... Weight ....P/W Ratio .... Lap time

at Brands you see a 500bhp car weighing 1000kg do the same time as a 250bhp car weighing 500kg ... same P/W Ratio same time ..

And to be honest, its the only way of looking at whats fastest ..

So all turn up at a Brands Trackday .. run your cars in any trim you like .. weigh them on the scales and dont lie about your power... (you cant really as you've all put your power on here .. :P ) .

No Arguements.. No sniping that hes hasnt got a back seat .. no saying hes got 40bhp me ..no bickering .. squabbling like children, just run your cars how you want to run them and see what time YOUR car does.

And if that dosnt sound like a magazine feature ... then i'll eat my welding torch ...

Another trackday at brands hatch. . . . with all the usual suspects out to play. . . sounds like a plan,

But @ brands hatch your not aloud to use timing equipment for trackdays?

But any chance to hav it on track suits me,

I thought Mr Morley was sorting another trackday for this purpose?

Sounds like a great idea. If I can get through the noise regs then I'm up for it! :D

You have hit the nail on the head there ...

Its about YOU and YOUR car .. not what someone else thinks ..

As for timing .. its because not everyone has a comp licence so no racing is allowed .. but ..if theres 30 cars in the pits then 3x1 minute laps is 90mins ..so set aside 30 places, and run one at a time wnt take more than an 2 hours .. and they can run it like the sprints ..

And if theres 10 or so with licences then they can go out together ...

This sounds like fun!!!

C'mon the next brands trackday!!!!

It will be fun if nothing else, as i cant drive on a track for shit! Well, unless i get a passenger side mirror that is, then i might improve a little!!

Cant wait for the next one!! Woohoo!

:ykt::ykt::ykt: well said darren  . I also don't want a stripped out race car that gets trailered everywhere , i know mine would go much faster with all the heavy bits missing BUT it won't look as good and it will drive like an old washing machine bouncing across the kitchen !!!!!!!! :? . I don't really wanna be called a trailer queen either

You just need a featherweight motor with slicks and a N.A. engine for circuits anyway . It's all about maintaining corner speeds and a nice smooth power delievery (hence why most turbos are rubbish around tracks) . That's why a mega light Nova with a 1400 engine can kill a 400bhp modern performance car around a track

Thats why all the heavy Class A turbo cars beat all the light weight class D and E cars .... you really are on another planet

4 42 A Darren Bly Nissan Skyline 52.464 2.137 82.24 13

25 87 D Graham Richardson Vauxhall Nova GSI 56.761 6.434 76.02 14

21 places and 4 seconds a lap difference and the Skyline has Glass, window winders and all the trim in it .. think the CD player was still in ..

I'm saying a mega lightweight 1400 Nova/mini/renault 5 etc will beat a 400bhp modern performance car around a track , and it will  . We've all also seen the oldskoolfords (street legal as well) of matt Dowler and Mad mick take out the big bhp turbos at both the retro ford trackdays so far so as well

The Focus was pulling 51's 52's round there .. Matt would be thrilled with a 53/54 round there

Dont know if anyone put a stopwatch on Mick ..

Aidrian Hall was probably the quickest N/A car .. 52's

Aidrians car has 2/3rds the weight of the Focus and half the power... hence the slower time .. which just means the Power to weight ratio works

And by the way the Nova has plastic everywhere and the interior .. ermm 1 driver , seat and a small cage .. so its light .... :P

If you mean the spaceframed YB turbo Focus thing then that's not a focus or an oldskoolford :? . That's more like a £100,000 wrc beast but funny how the 1970's escorts where keeping up with it though 8) . Two different car types with the same power to weight ratio won't do the same lap time either , the lightest one will be faster
