so how many people's mates/family say that your osf is not worth the money you spend on it.....i had a about a a hour covo-argument today with some mates to tell them that the classic cars will always hold thier moneys worth rather than the plastic crap that is made today and that classics are alot better

 

one mate just brought a punto for his 1st car and i was trying to tell him its a crap car and will fall apart within a few yrs,but he wouldnt have it

 

and my other mate has a merc amg which is now falling apart has he puts it under alot of strain with the right foot and his prop shaft couplings have now given up and its going to cost him quite a bit to get it fixed

 

so who has these type of discussions to make them see that the classic are worth while in the end

that's for my mate's they dont say bo about it,no some one with a f-reg celica know him 2 yr's now and he is on his fifth engine,and for new car's dont like them that much

i have the conversations similar, except i explain you will never get the same feel driving a new car as you do from an old one. and the fact that value is defined by however much you would be willing to spend on something.

new technology is great and i dont think we should be going bacl in time with our car making technology but i prefer the skill (what little i have) and feel involved in driving classics!

You should always stray away from putting peoples cars down cause they will be thinking exactly the same as what you are thinking about your car!

and at uni most of my frineds have a project cars so its quite good plus we help each other out with them

Yes mate, and there aint many (if any) brand new cars (under £40k) that will do 12 second 1/4s which just adds to the fun when a 40 year old car, with the engine it left the factory with STUFF 'EM!!

as someone else mentioned you cant buy these cars on credit like new cars nowadays which puts them well out the price range of your average joe unless you graft and build it yourself.

I literally spend ALL my spare money on the escort and am saving for a shorter axle and a re-paint. I think now, that the car is worth a little more than what i have spent on it, but that delicate balance is about to change i think. That is until the prices of OSF's go up.

I dont care though, i love it. (i just want to get some more bloody use out of it!!)

It dictates everything. I dont own the car, it owns me.

It cost him 10k, with the finance it will cost him best part of 14k, and it will be worth 5k when he really owns it!

 

That - in my book - isn't the best way to spend 9k, and it's a boring Piss-at!! Not even a hobby with some pleasure derived!!

 

Think you have got to be a bit carefull though, cos I doubt we'll ever get our money back, but I still say it's no more of a waste than any other hobby, esp as you have something to show for it, as you say Rick not just empty WKD bottles and fag packets!

my parents are always takin the p***, but you should have seen my dads face as i pulled it in the drive, he was like a little kid. my mum gives me hassle every day sayin that she wants the drive back an that it looks like, in her words "steptoes yard". but its not the escort that breaks down (altho i only drove it for 4 days before taking it off the road for a fresh paint, but it did near on 400 miles an starts first time everytime) or leaves oil all the way down the drive. we have more problems with theyre landrover, but im the one that gets grief, and only because my cars older.

if somethings been looked after for 30 years and another has been thrashed from new (3-4 years) i think i know which would cause the most problems.

the mondeo estate iv just bought and but a set of big alloy wheels on it was a waste of time... it'll go down invalue untill its worth more in scrap

my best mate has a mk2 cortina, my mum on the other hand i dont think aproves of it but she doesnt get much choice as between the three of us (me, mum, step dad) we have 11 cars... 9 of them begin tax free...

But i couldnt drive my escort every day, and i wouldnt dream taking it to work (supermarket carpark!)

 

I do spend all my spare money on it...aswell as money i dont actually have, good ole plastic! But as said, it wont loose value, if anything it will be worth more in a few years so im not bothered. The feeling and the smile i have when im in 3rd gear still spinning with the corsa in my rear view makes it worthwhile.
