so my car being close to finishing im now fretting about it getting nicked, vandalised...

iv already got plans for spiked metal gates each end of the garden and will fit a nice loud alarm to the car.

where i live, it needs to be like fort knoxx

what other tricks have you guys got?

i thought about wiring a second horn under the covers of both seats that i just disconnect before parking my ass

cut off switch , coded ignition and two chromoly D Rings welded through the chassis and 2 of the biggest motorbike chain fixed to the victorian railings . :ykt:

works for me thus far

Immobiliser, deadlocks (on the Mk2s transits), and a cut off switch. The Mk1 transit amby has a massive steel foot pedal lock, locked in place with £120 of ingersol padlock, the other Mk1 transit is blocked in with other transits, which are deadlocked. I have thought of wiring em to the mains (usually after another traveller knocks at the door wanting to buy one of em) but I believe this is frowned on.

Quick release steering wheel boss, thats what I intend to fit to my Anglia.

I'd like to see them try and drive it away with no steering wheel :thumbsup:

mole grips on the shaft, thats how theyll do it

That's what I heard as well. Though I would like to see the pair of mole grips that will bite hard enough to grip and steer a transit that doesn't have power steering. Also, if you see somebody walking about with a steering wheel you know they are up to no good!

I have a hidden battery master cut-off switch,a hidden electric fuel pump switch and a hidden switch on the ignition circuit.

I like the idea of a removable steering wheel and can't see why you couldn't make a cover for it out of another boss and then cover that one with another cover padlocked to it so there would be nothing to grab with mole grips and no way of fitting another wheel.

i've driven my racecar using a pair of mole grips

on the anglia i'll use a quick release steering wheel, i'd remove a HT lead or 2 and lock them in the house, 1 or 2 master cut off switches and if its left in the gaage i'd loosed the rear wheel nuts

iv already got the snap on steering wheel but that doesnt stop them loading it on a trailer or truck and taking it

Some nightmare stories from donnington.....false AA recovery vans turning up, dragging them on and therefore not challenged

The bottom line is, if they want it, they will get it. Just have to put lots of systems in place to try to prevent it. Alarms, immobilisers etc are all well and good, but you have to stop them physically dragging it onto a wagon. Taking a wheel or 2 off may be the best, or a wheel clamp maybe? Not easy if you use the car daily I know but no easy solution.

True, but the idea is that the scum would take the car as a classic, not just a joy ride. Crappy 90s cars are easy to get into, why take a classic with deadlocks, immobiliser, chained to steel railings, with a 12st rottie in the back if you can have some plastic fantastic away and it would burn so much better?

As said by the others if they want it bad enough then they will push it off the drive and hook it up and away  . If in your front garden then fit things that make a noise to remove before they can push it (car alarm , wheel clamp , steering wheel lock , chain the gates , chain the car to ground anchor etc ) . Fit a P.I.R. sensor that chimes in the house when anyone comes onto the drive which is handy anyway (get them in B+Q etc cheap) . You can fit a tracker but they cost £600+ (for a good one with lifetime membership to the network) or best of all get a dog . A dog will alert you to anyone comming onto your property 24hrs a day especially if it's a German Sheppard type dog as they are born to guard and never ever miss anything . Plus dogs are less grief than women and you'll love them more !!!!!!!!
