Mr Sam Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 i vote 'keep porshe out of london' keep ken out too
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 That man is a total nightmare. The trouble is, all his cronies are King tree huggers. The thing that really pees me off is we are an island, a tiny country. Why is it Blair (he started it), Brown and that duff spunk Livin... (aaah can't be arsed to write that tit's name), have taken it upon themselves to piss off everyone who has voted for them. There are other more massive countries than ours... WTF are they doing? You don't hear about this shite going on in other countries on the news. Our efforts are like a piss in a very big ocean as far as all the other countries go. Someone shoot him... and me too!
bortaf Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 TBH i agree with most of his ideas, LEZ is a good idea, forcing people to drive less miles, needs doing, especialy in citys where the 4X4 is king of the 1 child shcool run. We have people who drop off at the shcool on my estate that drive from one side of the estate to the school and home again for feck sake, 500 yards at most! 3 of em and 2 have 4X4s People moan about all this emmision stuff and low emmisions zones but the US have had these for 20 pluss years, we are behind and Europe is even further behind.

LEZ is a good idea?? Remind me, you do drive a commercial vehicle don't you?? The LEZ will improve London's air quality, according to the TFL website, by a pitiful 14%. I defy anybody with a natural human nose to go outside right now and tell me the air is clearer, cos it's not. Are these people who drive from one side of the estate in 16 tonners? No I don't think so. The LEZ is currently affecting large commercial vehcles and will take in all commercials of transit size and above by oct 2010. both the LEZ and Congestion Charging, and now the upcoming CO2 charge, are ALL money making exercises, and nothing to do with the environment!

jpayne Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Personally I thinkit's great. it's about time we had politicians stand up and do the right thing despite the petty opposition to it. We face a problem not only here in the UK but globally. And if nobody starts fixing the problem it wil only get worse. Yes The UK is a small country, but it is still one of the bigger poluters per person. If we don't do whats right then we will never be able to lobby other people or countries to follow suit. As hard as it is being a car driver I applaud the strategies. User pays rather than the future! Justin P
FredTransit Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Two words. Power stations. The pollution caused by generating electricity is much much more than pollution caused by transport. I don't see Ken having a go at all those companies in the city that leave their lights burning all night in unoccupied offices. The pollution saved by the new CO2 charge per year is equivalent to that produced in two hours by Heathrow at peak operation. Is Ken going to put a charge on Heathrow too? I know there is a passenger tax/charge, but that again is just a money making scheme. I don't see how paying money will improve the environment.

(no, still can't be bothered to write his name), got in last time on a second choice vote. WTF is that all about? Some democracy... they should count all first choice votes and end it there. I sure as hell never voted for him last time, I don't think he was my second choice either... sorry, I KNOW he wasn't. It really isn't hard to see why some people don't vote, "my first choice never got in, so what's the point?" This is what will be said amongst the voters. It wont stop me though... roll on May
Cookie Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Tbh I could'nt really give 2 hoots about the planet, and nor do those whose pockets are being lined with all this 'save the planet nonsense' At the end of the day this world has been here for billions of years adapting to it's ever changing surroundings and always will, only difference is now, we will have to adapt wilth it. And before anyone jumps on the'but if we don't charge lots of money for people to drive then the world will die in x year' bandwagon, do you really believe all the rubbish and statistics that are being thrown around, by the so called 'experts'???? If you do more fool you, starnage that the government pays for research to be done, then the researchers report what the government want to hear then people get financially penalised, oh and all this while they themselves still fly or drive around the world at our expense! IT IS ALL A LOAD OF OLD TOSH!!!!!!!
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Cookie... And on Cookies note, I would like to say this... In Victorian times London, like many cities was covered in thick smog... now that is pollution. Are these cities like that today??? Whats the fuss all about??? RIP OFF BRITAIN
FredTransit Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Absolutely. If Ken and his mates really cared about the environment, they would ban private cars from the centre, permanently or for part of the time, but no, they have decided to just let em come in, as long as they pay for the privilege...... So I repeat, it's not about the environment, it's about money.
Admin Vista Posted February 20, 2008 Admin Report Posted February 20, 2008 wanna know what the real big time global Co2 producers are...... Planes?..........................nope Cars?.............................nope Ships?............................nope Can you guess? Here we are stood by one, this is White Island, an active Volcano off the coast of North Island NZ and the lake behind us is the acid lake in the crater. Estimated Co2 output? at last count some 900 to 1000 metric tons per day. And yes the gas masks were necessary, I made the mistake of putting it in my coat pocket then got a wiff of sulhur laden steam........I nearly choked!! Now take a family size saloon producing 128g (0.128kg) Co2 per Km (figure quoted for a BMW 320d) whilst the Volcano produces 1000000Kg of Co2 per day right? Does some basic number crunching.............. So I'm going to have to drive the trusty BMW for 7 Million 812 thousand 500Km to output the same Co2 that White Island produces in a day? Fook me that's a lot of money BMW are going to make from servicing the old nail!
FredTransit Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Do you think Ken could charge the Kiwis for it?
Cookie Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Do you think Ken could charge the Kiwis for it? I'm sure he'd give it a bloody good try
Muttley MK2 Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 I am 50 years old this year, i have lived all my life within spitting distance of motorways, airports, A roads etc. My schools, houses and every other building was painted with lead based paint, cars ran on 4 an 5 star leaded petrol. I had salty, fatty, high carbohydrate food, drank full fat milk and had full fat butter on white bread........... I ask this question HOW DID I SURVIVE!!
Messenjah Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 its all in a bid apparently to stop climate change ... Global warming is a Natural process the surface of mars is heating up at roughly the same rate as the surface of the earth which woul dlead one to assume its more of a solar thing ... I do not deny that we are contributing to climate change but it is a natural process so all we are doing is speeding it up a bit and there are alot of other ways to combat it. People not having loft insulation or double glazing but drive a prius are contributing more to global warming and climate change then someone living in a well insulated home and driving a RR phantom ... its all a complete load of shit. People who drive these "gas Guzzling" cars are alreayd paying more to use the roads by way or road tax ... someone who Has to drive into central london because they cant rely on the unpredictable public transport system who drives a cayenne if they had to drive into the CC zone 5 days a week and wer epaying their road tax will pay £7400 a year on congestion charge and road tax ... then theres the petrol they use assuming 20mpg and 15k miles a year they will also spend over £3500 on petrol and assuming roughly two thirs of that is tax £2150 ish ... so thats £9150 in tax to go to work because they have worked hard earnt some money and treated themselves to a nice car. I am only 19 and im so sick of the way this country Punishes the people that have worked hard and got good jobs ... the 40% tax bracket is just a punishment for being successfull and if you ask me it encourages more people not to bother and to lack any sort of ambition which is why more people are claiming benefits and dropping out of schools.
