Admin Vista Posted June 2, 2008 Admin Report Posted June 2, 2008 So let's hear all the tales of woe. I got there no probs (but baked my sockless feet with the heater on max in an M6 traffic jam) and as I passed the 20 mile to go mark on the way home was beginning to feel a sense of smugness coming over me. Looked down at the temp gauge and thought, serves me right for feeling smug, it was 3/4 of the way across the gauge (normally 1/3). Pulled over and steam erupted from under the bonnet! Feeling a sense of dread as I lifted the bonnet, I was relieved to find out it was just my heater hose had dropped onto the manifold (fook knows why as it's been like that for two years with no issues) and had melted through it just enough to cause a pinhole. So not wanting to wait 45 mins for the RAC, I rummaged around all the rubbish at the side of the road and came up with an old leather gardening glove and some packing case banding. Wiley Coyote hasn't got a patch on me I cut a finger off the glove and bandaged it up tight with the banding. Topped the rad up with the ice water left in my cool box and jobs a goodun, home in time for tea (ok a late tea at 9.30) What do you reckon, Boddgit and scarper engineering eh?
sab6024 Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Ahh well done Scott, but why would you take an old gardening glove with you in the first place????

Admin Vista Posted June 2, 2008 Author Admin Report Posted June 2, 2008 Nice one Scott... .......but wtf where you doing on the M6 going to Cornwall We were following Deltamals Sat Nav on the way up, all of us thinking this is a long way round Malc! He'd clicked Motorway only as his route option.
johnny_h Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Great repairing skills there! Improvise, adapt and overcome! Don't think I could have done the same with my exhaust fannymould on the way up tho....
Admin Vista Posted June 2, 2008 Author Admin Report Posted June 2, 2008 I reckon a leather bandage around that would have kept the noise down a little mate. You drive home ok with it?
johnny_h Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Bought one from Darran at Escort Tec and fitted it sunday morning. It was a bit noisy on the way up though.
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Well done Scott.. You can be on my team in Scrapheap Challenge...
topi Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 On the way to CF, infact probably 10mins out of Podington, my mate Ed's front caliper bolts fell out of his MK2 Escort and took a chunk of RS 4spoke with it, so that kinda let the air out of the tyre haha. Luckily the local traffic cop saw us and was actually really helpfull. Coned off an area of road for us, and even got another car to come with a jack (we stupidly didn't take one). Oh and after a little while of hooning around on the Sideways Area in the *cough*Opel Kadett*cough*, my 'tempory puncture repairs' (screws in the tyres which I forgot about) got ripped out, tyres deflated, and then came off the rim - ballix. So MASSIVE thanks to the lads that helped me fix the wheel and tyre situation and get me on my way back home!
mk2griff Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 WELL DONE SCOTT.HOPE YOU ALL HAD A GREAT WEEKEND.I GOT STUCK WITH THE WEDDING RECEPTION .
capriaddict Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Some of you know the problem i had on the way to the pod on saturday. basicly my car over heated on the way so had to stop. I let it cool down for a bit then topped the water up and carried on the rest of the way. As i stopped at the campsite the cause of the over heating be came clear, the heater hose (same one as vista's) had split right by the jubilee clip on the waterpump end. So on the sunday Vista very kindly dived under the bonnet of me car cut the end of the hose of and re-attached the hose to the pump, good job there was a bit of slack in the hose It ran fine all the way home i do have a bit of cleaning up to do though as the water sprayed everywhere under the bonnet
capriaddict Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 WELL DONE SCOTT.HOPE YOU ALL HAD A GREAT WEEKEND.I GOT STUCK WITH THE WEDDING RECEPTION . We wondered where you'd got to
antz Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 if anyone noticed my car sounding like a tracotr coming into the campsite it was because on the way down i got about 6 miles formh ome and head a ticking..pulled over and the exhaust was blowing out the gasket on the middle two ports right on the block. oh well itll be ok. by the timew we got to the pod i had a nice backfire between gears 1-2 and 2-3 and it sounded like a tracotr going full throttle bigkev rescued me with his exhaust paste and it made it home no trouble
deltamal Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Devoloped a noisy T5 on the way home, that wont be cheap!
BaileyMex Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 YAY I didnt break down! In fact the car has never run so well Only issue was just as I was getting onto the M1 i heard a ting ta ting ting, as I heard some thing sound like it dropped off, turned out to be the butterfly nut and cover for the jets on one of my 40's, still made it all the way back tho with no issues
Mr.Sumo Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Nice one Scott... .......but wtf where you doing on the M6 going to Cornwall We were following Deltamals Sat Nav on the way up, all of us thinking this is a long way round Malc!
