bmxdave Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 Reading classic ford before i read about someone using his osf as a daily and making a big deal about it. I dont get it though. Up until last week i did a 50 mile plus round trip every day. I never had any second thoughts about it, even though id find at least one problem a week. Its not really a big deal though, its part of the fun and passion of old cars. It annoys me slightly, especially when people say im mad for doing it. I dont see why. So does anyone else run theirs as a daily and what sort of mileage do you do?
Admin Vista Posted August 6, 2008 Admin Report Posted August 6, 2008 I haven't the last couple of years but I did for most of 2006. I stopped because I found that using it as a daily drive took a lot of the pleasure of it being a toy away.
fairlane500 Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 I have done in the past but not with the Fairlane.15 mpg sort of rules it out Never found it a problem though,as long as you keep on top of things
antz Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 i did but it went rusty so i bought another car
FredTransit Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 Yes, and more than that thye still work for a living one way or another.
285Andy Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 i drive "to" the car every day........ does that count but no, id never use it every day as ive only made it splash proof rather than water proof
c20xe Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 A minimum of 300 miles a week, but when I get home after work I wash and polish the bodywork and chassis and pick all the stones out of tyres,at the weekends the bonnet is held up with a wooden stick with rubber stoppers on the end and sheets of stainless steel are placed under the car ,once I've driven it up my custom made ally ramps and as for you using that 100e for 50 mile round trip without cleaning it,you should be ashamed of yourself young man!!!!
hellblue Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 I have just got my Mk1 cortina on the road ! its only reason for me building it is to use it every day God i hate modern cars
atomic punk Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 Have been using mine for a 40 mile per day motorway commute until the MOT ran out - no bother at all except for a wire that falls off the starter and an auto that slips in and out of gear
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 I used my old anglia as a daily driver for three years. I went everywhere in it and did about 10000 miles a year. My new project will be a daily driver. The van I use as often as I can, and used to be a daily when I worked local.
Stu_B Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 My flipfront is now my daily (ie. only road legal car), although I've only done one trip in it & burnt out the wiring loom Getting the bus to work & cycling everywhere else
zetecmk2 Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 my escort has been my daily for about 8 yrs apart from when it was off the road for 18 mts getting rebuilt (not restored)! thats when i bought kooltina to use as my daily. escort has been on the road for over a year now so kooltina has been bodged (not restored). when kooltina is on the road, the escort will come off again ant i will sort the teething troubles. then, best get myself another project (or finish the kitcar). and so it goes on....and on...and on......etc etc
MightySprocket Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 I havn't driven mine at all for two years so i will probably use it every day just to make up for lost time
oldbus Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 Up until a couple of years ago i didn´t have a modern and had no choice other than to use my old uns..(not always Fords) I ran a 68 Ford 12m for seven years day in day out, was the most reliable car i´ve ever had ...including all the plastic! The only reason i stopped was i got a company car.
omj624p Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 Dont think I could afford the petrol to use mine daily
djstaffy Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 I use my 59 prefect everyday doing 30miles a day commute, my other cars are a mk1 cortina & 61 classic they will be everyday cars when back on the road. djstaffy
Copey Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 my capper is used everyday, can't aford another car, but even if i could it would be another OSF project and still use my capri everyday
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 all weathers every day its there to use and abuse
Takeshi Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 Used everyday to go to work, then out and about on the night all weathers. You'll never stop the rust coming through in the end, so why worry about?
caprilaser Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 My Mk1 Capri is used everyday, its tax free got cheap insurance and a (semi) reliable 2 litre pinto engine so why not use it? Might as well drive it before old cars are outlawed! lol. Being a daily drive does stop it from getting the attention it needs though, like paint...
caprinerd Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 every day rain shine snow fog it has to be done
trevb Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 Its my one and only car, I have to. Did get a rover last year, but so many things went wrong with it i gave up in the end and sold it for 100 quid. I can’t live without my escort! Believe me I’ve tried.
pauln Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 Do 25000 a year in the firms van. But the Cortina is the car of choice most other times, only do about 3000 a year though. The modern only does about 1500.
Noodles Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 Dont use it everyday but it dont mean im a sunny sunday driver
