The tester said I couldn't have 2 different size tyres on the front... 1 was a 205 60 R13 on a superlite, the other was a 185 70 R13 on the original Ghia alloy I had spare I think they jus took great pride in arsing me about...... My Insurance company has wound me up more tho
bomber1 Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 ive never known an mot'er to check a spare
Gareth Posted December 1, 2006 Author Report Posted December 1, 2006 ive never known an mot'er to check a spare He didn't it was a spare wheel I had in my garden that came off the car when I fitted the superlites
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 That's sh*t. You don't need your car to be MOT'd to get it insured. Because, how on earth can you get it to the MOT station without driving on the road? And to drive it on the road, you need insurance. You can drive without an MOT provided it's too and from a pre arranged MOT test
Gareth Posted December 1, 2006 Author Report Posted December 1, 2006 I know, I've run the gauntlet this week and I'm frankly fed up with them

bozie Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 what about cars with space savers my cars got a space saver and thats nowhere near the same size as the others. esepically now i got 17"s on it
tiko Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Yeah Ive got a space saver which most madern cars have these days (If they have one at all) although it doesnt fit the front, have to swap a rear to the front and stick the space saver on the rear. I can't ever remember being asked by insurance compnies if the cars MOT'd.
flyingbanana Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 if the spare aint there they cant fail you........i all ways take mine out
Onyx Dave Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Spare is not part of an MOT unless its fitted to the car, if its fitted it has to match the other tyre size on that axle it is fitted too, the wheels can be different but tyre size has to be the same, ie 205/60 13 both sides, doesnt matter if the rear tyres dont match the front as long as there paired ie the same size.
Gareth Posted December 2, 2006 Author Report Posted December 2, 2006 gutted for you mate ring up another insurance company quick some are open till late at night I still need a tax disc  Spare is not part of an MOT unless its fitted to the car, if its fitted it has to match the other tyre size on that axle it is fitted too, the wheels can be different but tyre size has to be the same, ie 205/60 13 both sides, doesnt matter if the rear tyres dont match the front as long as there paired ie the same size. Exactly my problem...
Jelly Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 When he failed you, you should of just taken the spare wheel out of the car and given it back to the bloke for a re-test. Job's a goodun!
