Was watching The One Show on BBC last night and they had a report on the number of CCTV cameras that are now in operation around the UK.

Does it make you feel safer if you are out late at night or do you feel that it is an invasion of your privacy??

So .... C.C.T.V. >>>>>>>

Big Brother (spying your every move)

or

Big Sister (watching over you to make sure you are safe)

personally .. bring it on, watch me where ever I go, what ever I do .. I don't do anything illegal so i'm not worried.

In the towns you'll get a group of lads walking down the road, larking about ..meet another group and it gets a bit barrgy.. the police are allready on the way before the fight starts...good thing I feel..

Drunk doris, staggering along the road, spotted and tracked .. good thing

Kids hanging about .. start doing a bit of vandlism ... spotted and caught (then let off with a poxy caution instead of boot camp) good thing

A Man matching your discription has raped a doris .. at 11.30 pm ... same time as you say you where walking from the Queens Head to the taxi rank over the other side of town on your own .. CCTV has you leaving the pub, walking and getting in a black cab .. black cab confirms it dropped you off home 6 miles away .. good thing.

etc

etc

etc

cant think of a bad thing ..... some say in town they can spy into your windows.. curtains??? they cant see through nets and if you up against the window with your dangly bits flapping ... then you want to be seen !!!

As for too much big brother, i'm all for DNA records at birth, and the rest of the nation to be DNA tagged at the persons next Doctor visit... I would like my DNA to put on record, and for someone who is Mr Average in discription it would be more important to help clear you from enquires.. i'm not average at 6'5".

And for those that say the records can be wrong, missmatched etc.. when arrested for a crime that you didnt do but your DNA was found, they will re-take the DNA test before locking you up... so dont worry about that. Most stories about DNA cock ups come from private DNA tests .. DNA tests on the cheap, paternity cases etc .. not criminal cases.

So bring on Big Brother .... and lets be safer

for the most part i completely agree with gary however there is one area where it does annoy me .. on the roads whilst i dont mind anpr cameras looking at where ive been and where im going etc what i dont like is all these poxy speed cameras i thinkt he whole speeding thing needs a shake up because for those with common sense and atleast some sort of driving ability there is as time and place when speeding is not inappropriate and not dangerous it hink the only driving offences should be driving without due care and dangerous driving because at 3AM on an empty motorway in good weather conditions when you arent tired what is the problem with doing in excess of 100mph ?

conversly a road full of speedbumps outside a primary school at finishing time 30mph speed limit is still dangerous !

Hmm, can't see why it is dangerous? If you are going slowly there is no problem :?

As for the DNA thing .... I have to say I completely agree with you Gary  I would be more than happy to have my and my children's DNA on record ... might catch the crims sooner

CCTV is fine, if it really is used properly. As for saying I don't do any wrong and don't mind being watched, many people have been convicted by mistaken identity. It's all too simple to say you were seen doing it, so you did it. Aside from that there are plenty of places that have it, we are paying for it, and there is still crime. It's either not being watched or recorded, or just plain pointing in the wrong direction.

Posted

i agree with gary to an extent but i dont like the idea of being watched

theres also the point that since the police (up here anyway) think they have it covered because of all the cameras but they dont. This guy stabbed a young lad at a youth hostel just the other day, walked into the park and was there for a few hours around the kids playpark and he actually even started with my brother who thankfully had the sense to walk away with his friend.

you can look at it both ways, if the cameras werent there then they wouldnt know where he was and if they didnt have the cameras theyd get off their asses and actually look for him

Ive read in the local papers of a few people being prosecuted for throwing cig butts out of car windows and other similar things, dont get me wrong, I hate people littering, but these camera's were surely put there for more bigger fish to fry than simply littering.

To be honest, while I have no objection to being watched on camera, I feel it is just another way of brushing things under the carpet... something our useless government is very good at doing.

Go back a few years, there wasn't as much crime as there is now, old people could walk down the street without worrying if they are going to get beaten to a pulp for their pension, etc. etc.

Why has this world or more specifically, this country, come to this??? Why have I got to pay out for CCTV systems to watch over my cars when they are on private property and nowhere near a public road???

Simple, to many fecking lay abouts who are either immigrants sponging money out of the country, or it's junkie low life scum who would rather spend their whole life making other peoples lives a misery by robbing them.

It's always the working man (or doris) who will be dumped on by the government & stolen from by the lay abouts, which the normal person is paying for hand over fist.

So, let's not worry about all that, lets not spend all this time and money getting to the root of the problem, lets spend a bit of dosh and bang some cameras up to watch everyone. The genuine people will feel safer because they think it's to keep them safe, but we will use it to watch someone drop a crisp packet so we can fine them.

I have lost my faith in humanity now & hate this country. We are found in favour if the guilty in the courts, you're guilty till proven innocent, and you are left having nightmares of the one night you were held prisoner and robbed in a strangers house 10 years ago, while the scum that did it still walks the streets.

Still it's no use moaning about it, what can I do? I would be locked up for defending myself, family or my property.

a few years... to the tv image of the 50's? sorry mate, that is bull shit... this country is just as violent as ever! my dad tells me about back in the day (the sixties i think) mods and rockers used to meet up in petersfield every weekend with all manner of weapons from bike chains and pool cues to crickt bats and golf clubs and knock the shit out of each other!

and what about the footbal hooligans of the 80's/90's...

rose tinted glasses my friend!

i am in 2 minds, i dont mind the cams as i dont do illegal things, but i have to agree that they are making the police a little lazy a kind of "the cams are there so we dont have to be" way of thinking, i would much rather see more police walkin the street, hardly see any now!

also agree that speed cams are a waste of space, they often make people drive badly, the amount of times i have seen people slam on at a speed cam and someone has nearly rear ended them, i have had it happen to myself, i had slowed for the speed cam, and some idiot in a merc nearly went up my arse end, then he beeped his horn and waved franticly, the nob

Nope not rose tinted mate. You have described violence as a whole between a group or groups of people. Yes I remember the football violence which is why I never got into football. Mod's & Rockers... well even though i'm not old enough to have been there, I know about it.

You can even go back to gangs like the Kray's, but my point is this... it was never aimed at people who can't defend themselves, peoples bank accounts etc. etc. The crime these days is commetted by mainly immigrants who see fit to rob any law abiding citizen anyway they want to.

Crime back then was committed by big organised gangs who targeted banks and businesses & not the little old lady walking down the street... that is my point.

It's precisely because I'm not doing anything wrong that I object to being watched as I go about my daily business.

How long will it be before nothing is protected by any kind of privacy? When do we say enough? Is it when we have to carry ID cards? Is it when we have to log in and out of buildings we enter using those ID cards? Is it when we have to register in and out of our own homes? Is it when they want to stick CCTV in our own homes to make sure our children aren't misbehaving or being maltreated?

My point is, I think we're not just on the slippery slope to a totally monitored society, we are in fact already more than half way to the bottom of the hill.

again im another with the 2 waves of thought on the mater

1 yes they are a good idea if they are used for what they put there for,to watch over us and keep us safe

2 i dont think they are much cop as where i live we have a one way system and the amount of times i nearly had head on crashes with people comming round the oneway the wrong way but as its only a little town they wont put in the digital system so they cant pick out the plate of the car

my wifes car was broken into not to long ago and my jacket was stolen the cctv was right there and they couldnt even pick out the car let alone pick out the persons that did it

great idea in practice, but in reallity load of crap

racial slur much? come on mate, you think that most of british crime is done by johny foreigner? the 'attacking the defenceless' types you describe, i would say were often white males aged between 16-21... hardly an imigrant who is out to fleece us?

the average person breaks the law at least 22 times a day (mainly motoring offences)!

but all this is beside the point, i don't wana start a keyboard war... i imagine where you and i live and grew up has given us a different perspective on it and at the end of the day, it's all an opinion?

your original point though that cctv is to blame for increasing crime rates? or did i reach that conclusion in a round about manner?

Posted

Racial? I don't think so. As you say, area's are different, i'm just explaining what it's like around my area & surrounding area's. My main point was that any crime that is committed now is cowardly e.g. robbing the elderly, putting false fronts on cash machines & stealing identities through whatever means (raiding bins, breaking into Wi-Fi networks etc.)

Yes I accept that absolutley anyone can use these methods to commit a crime. As for the my original post where you seem to think I was saying camera's are to blame... thats not what I said at all. I said that having camera's put up to "supposedly" protect us and help prevent crime, is a case of getting out of actually getting together and using brains to work out why things have got as bad as they have. In other words, no issues are addressed as to why crime is committed and who maybe committing it, it's a case of "ah I think we should have camera's put up as it seems to be a crime hot-spot." Oh let's not get started on just how many aren't even switched on.

On a final note, 20 years ago, did you have kids taking other peoples lives by using a knife? Goes back to my original point of "Cowardly". When I grew up, people used their fists if they got into a fight, & you rarely had to worry about someone pulling out a blade or even a gun.

But as I have already said, there is nothing done to sort out why this shit happens, the authorities just use it as an excuse to put camera's up.

BTW, a keyboard war is not my intention mate, just trying to explain my oppinion.

I remember my gran talking about the good old days before the war, when the streets were safe and nobody in their village every locked their doors, then my old man said "That's becaause we were so poor we never had anything worth nicking!!" The past is viewed with fondness but look at the crime and poverty in days of Queen Victoria's Great Britain. Also a lot of our scrotes ( and a lot of good people) were thinned out twice in the last century as conscripted cannon fodder. Bit off topic, but are times as bad, better or about the same?

Could have been worse for them. A century or so before, we shipped them all off to Australia!

our new ambulances and response cars have a permanent recording cctv fitted in them now for our safety, hopefully will be good to use as evidence when we get assaulted and get proper convitions rather than the pointless £50 fines they give out for attacking us!

they are on e rolling loop hard drive or summat that over records after a period of time so if something happens we just press a button and it stores it as evidence!
