ZetecVan 2.0 Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 That's bad news. It's all because new cars are harder to nick without the keys, so they go for the older ones. My mate, Simon (posts as Zakspeed) dropped his mums old fiesta off at the new owners (a friends), and between him parking it on the drive and the new owners coming home (about 30-40 mins) someone had broken into it and got it running. They must have been disturbed as they didn't drive off with it. Then two days later they came back and had another go.
Hilux Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 maybe buying and selling of logbooks should be banned the trading of vehicle id's and logbooks alone, i.e. without the relevant vehicle has been illegal for many years but it is something that is hard to police. the real problem here is an unfortunate one, th old skool ford scene and indeed classic vehicles in general are now the victims of their own success, the huge interest in them has pushed prices up enormously and as I'm sure that we are all aware, where there is high value goods there will be theiving, and whilst stealing a whole garage or small warehouse full of parts in one hit would be of much benefit to the thief, transporting it all would be a problem, so unfortunately they go for the next best solution steal the bits that are still assembled and drive it away or trailer it. All anyone can do is make the job of moving the car as difficult as possible, remove wheels, buy a snap off steering wheel and remove the steering wheel from the car when not in use, chain the car with a high quality lock to something very solid (concrete a thick steel loop into the garage floor!) fit padlocks to your metal garage door, the removal of the locks by cutting them usually creates alot of noise on the door, make up your own engine electrics immobiliser, hide the switch, it may not be fool proof but it may buy you time to get yer pyjamas on and set the dog loose, block yer classic in with yer everyday car, again they could break into that aswell and move it but it would buy you time. lock em up fella's
RedditchJay Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 THATS bad........... why O why can't we keep our cars like any other cars........ people just see £££ signs and know that they can be broken up easy.......
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 Most people on OSF will know my views on this sort of behaviour, and also my views on Policing and the Governments/Courts systems. As has already been said by Micky, our old Fords have become victims of their own success, and all we can do is do our best to secure our vehicles. I feel for the owner of this car, and indeed anyone who has been a victim of theft, but why oh why wasn't it alarmed/immobilized???? GET A GOOD ALARM & IMMOBILISER FITTED. This situation will only ever get worse due to the increased security on newer cars. Our old Fords were easy enough to steal when they were new, to have no decent security on them now is madness. I know for a fact, my 2 wouldn't last 5 minuites parked up in some of my local areas without an alarm on them. GET IT DONE
slimrs Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 thieving scumbags!! they should all be shot. we should all have trackers on them really, nobody seems bothered by alarms going off anymore.

john1979 Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 my capri has a quick release steering wheel, I think this is a great obvious security system. even before I had the quick release I used to screw of the momo wheel.
Rick Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 theres a lot of osf memebrs about. i think you should make a stolen car section on the site so ppl can update on information etc. someone is bound to come across it sometime afterall, we are the potential customers to these thieves (unless they are among us which would be sad)
mk2_escort_chick Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 I think a stolen car section would be good! My dad used to unbolt the steering wheel on his old scirocco. Nothing is safe anymore- everyone knows my views on car theives!!
JAY PS Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 Guys ,why not invest in a RAC trackstar or similar These cost only £399 now and although theres a subscription of £120 @year your car could be found within 30 minutes before any real damage can be done These work on gps and once activated cars can be found within minutes No thief is ever going to think you of a tracker being fitted in an older car and we might actually stop this from becoming a real problem The guys at SCR(01276 24415) in camberley are fitting one to my car on Monday next week Money well spent after all the money ive spent
Jelly Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 I was looking at a mini club a while back and they have some kind of an online atlas set up where you enter details on a car and where it was stolen from.. This would be great escpecially if the WHOLE scene gathered together to add info on it and posted links on their forums etc OSF 105Speed Turbosport etc etc
