maybe im just in a grump again but to be honest osf mags are impressing me less and less lately.

there seem to be too many issues per year featuring pretty much the same content every few weeks.

dont get me wrong i appreciate the work involved to keep a magazine running and im sure its hard to fill those pages every couple of weeks/.

i just think you should start thinking outside the box a little.

Pictures are lovelly and spotting cars youve seen on the web and at shows.

adverts and the same line of feature cars are not.

i know u need adverts but cant they all be stuck at the back and not in between every section?

features always seem to feature the end results: picture of an rs 4 spoke, picture of the wing badge, picture of the engine bay with performance figures.

id rather see something of more use: like how they got the engine in the hole, why they chose oit, how much it cost and pictures of them upto their necks in oil and filler dust.

its not just osf mags really its most car magazines....

but it sells doesnt it, so il stop whining again and carry on reading.

what i do like at the mo is this retroford crossflow turbo project though, i just hope u dont give up ojn the feature like a lot of mags do...

(crossflow fuel injection ppc?)

sorry about that neway il shut it now

i see your point rick! i agree in some ways but doesnt seeing an immaculate escort make you so envious you storm outside in a grump and and go get covered in oil because YOU WANT A CAR LIKE THAT ONE!?

P.S saw your car in RF mag redaers rides. well done!:D

Its not a case of "it sells" though, your buying em, so you deserve something you like!

I agree though, i'm more into "well, its nice now, but what did it take to get it there" as not only do i find that interesting anyway, i also use it to give me a bit of a incentive. I think (honesty, i'm not being biased) that the Graters section is CF is great, just looking at some of those cars you know that they'll be on the cover one day but its fantasic to see them un on a ramp in bits!

The recent Our Yard was good too, with all the cantributors and alike, i enjoyed that.

Also mate, when i'm writing about cars i try and focus a bit more on the build too  So watch this space!

That's why I had a brief break from the scene before I got the Anglia,

at the time it was only Classic Ford and while it was good, I got tired of seeing the same sort of thing each month, plus seeing all these big budget builds that seem to get featured just made me feel bad about my car as it wasn't ever going to be up to show standard like all the others. That was before I had a computer and before OSF, when you only see everyone building minters its quite depressing when you're a student and keeep finding horrors in a project.

I think now the mags have come back up to standard, there's a good mix of cars and classic ford in particular has a lot less rally cars; at one point every issue had a forest spec Gp4 escy built FOR rather than by some tw*t with too much money, and had too much of it to be concerned by the esculating prices they were causing for the rest of us. In all fairness though mate, I work for a couple of magazines and we try and get as varied a content as possible to suit everyones tastes, yet we still get this 'its all the same' comments, but truth is you can only feature the cars that people are building these days, I mean look around at shows, on this site and at race meetings. What is there in the classic ford scene that the magazines aren't covering?

The mags do a good job of keeping everyone happy, from concourse restorers, us lot hooning about on the street, track day and race cars and the occasional rally car, not to mention a diverse cross section of old fords from 100Es, Anglias, Tinas, Escorts, and capris, plus they manage to squeeze in the odd Zed car here and there, and they do have a fair old tech section with as much help and advice they can squeeze onto the page in both RF and CF.

You'll always get these comments but some people like the car features and some people appreciate the tech, and the proportions are hard to get right, no one's ever going to be happy with it as we all have our preferences but for 130 pages they both do a pretty good job of getting it balanced. That's why we've got this site and others like 105Speed, to answer your tech problems and share ideas, and the mags do a damned good job of promoting us so its good to give something back.

I agree with most of what you said but have to point out that the paragraph above is a trifle unfair.

You could easily sweep me in to that bracket, as both of my cars have cost me significant sums of money to get them as they are. Does that make me a twat with too much money? I sincerely hope not. Does it make me less capable with a MIG welder? Most definitely yes. Does it make me a twat because I haven't the skill of hand to carry out my own bodywork and need to pay someone else to do it for me? Again I hope not.

Remember that many of the classic restoration or fabrication specialists wouldn't exist without people who had the budget to do these things, often at great cost to themselves. Where then would people get free advice on 4 linking, turrets & suspension mods, camber angles etc etc?

It takes all sorts to keep the classic Ford world turning and fun for all of us, and I wouldn't dream of looking down my nose at a home grown job, partly because I'm envious of the skill of the owner and partly because I know that just because it isn't covered in shiny bits doesn't mean it can't chew the ass of the concourse RS sat next to it.

In summary, just because some of us have deeper pockets than others, it doesn't mean we don't respect the skills and abilities of everyone.

Right, here goes....

After a while of being in any scene you'll notice striking similarities

between cars, be it engine, 'the look', whatever.

But, count how many English Fords were built bearing different names until

1980.

I counted 9.

So there's only so much variation and so much you're gonna see before

it starts getting 'samey'.

I've learnt there's more to the scene than being different.

It's all about the people, the meets, the extra friends you make,

AND ABOVE ALL IT'S DRIVING YOUR MOTOR 8)

to add my ten bob worth.

one thing i dislike about modern mag articles is the lack of detailed technical info when describing a featured car.mostly the article will be about pointing you to a part supplier rather than telling you what part can be made to fit.

I have noticed since taking out a cf subscription that some articles are little more than an extension of their main advertisers pages ???

1st PPC Crossflow injection. In staff cars section of current issue they mention this saying, someone pointed out he could nick the setup off a KA!

2nd Retroford turbo crossflow is being done by Mr Morley and thus far he seems to have finished what he started(seriously cool van!) Really looking forward to how this turns out! 8)

3rd Completly agree with wanting more like the "grafters" section of CF, maybe with a blend of PPCs Staff car type reports :?: More grease and less money if ya know what i mean :?:

Here goes my turn. I get a tad annoyed at not seeing cars with money spent in the right places instead of cars where the money has been spent in ALL the places. i.e a bit of a dog but with an lsd and hot lump etc. I want to see a feature car with a bit of rust and dodgy strut tops. As long as the car has something "cool" about it then i will be fascinated. All these amazing 50 grand builds definatly get tiresome after a while. Anyway i'm pissed and probably dont make sense so im going now.:oops:

A car mag about old cars will feature mainly cars with the same mods done to them or thereabouts . Please don't start putting cars with 18 inch chrome spinning wheels , playstations , neons and airbrushed terminator battle scenes on the flipping bonnet in classic / retroford !!!!!!! The mags can only run a few pages on each car and would need the owner of that car to provide decent photos of the build that they could re-print in the feature if that's what people wanted . I think that's a good idea and it could be put in a seperate column in the feature to make it more interesting . As for detailed engine specs etc most owners won't tell all their mods for some strange reason , they think that someone else might read them and then overtake them !!!!!

Don't worry mate, there'll be no neons, 345-inch rims and playstation in CF while I'm in charge.
