Posse Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 discuss for me it was my first car and loved it and never looked back
over_head_cam Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 Could be a lot of things.. My uncle had an Anglia estate when I was tiny and used to take me out for a drive to get me to sleep. Could be that or my other uncle had a Mk1 Lotus Cortina and took me and my Dad to the Ally Pally for the Custom Car show in about '75 I think. I can still remember the smell of the interior and I love it still
jambo77 Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 mk1 or mk2 escorts were the car to have when i went to college, rallying around the car park in my beige 2dr mk2 1.3 escort has stuck with me since
banarama Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 it was my first car a 1300xl bought it from mitcham in 1985. it was a 2 door with a blown engine. very goosd shell .in blue payed 75 quid for it.put capri laser wheels on it.caught the train from oxted/ to croydon to buy a exaust system from, super accesories.long gone now.then bought some seats from jonny stamford in lingfield.now gone.then tried telling the old man got to get a 1600 crossflowfor it.no he said no your crash it way to fast, so we ended up with a 1100. after all the work some bastards nicked it. .drove it to featherbed lane golf course nicked the wheels, then tried setting it on fire.but it never caugt alight, just schorched the wing.got it back sold it on.god knows if its still about today.reg was omx 610k
BIG G Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 I was 17 and could'nt afford a decent car
banarama Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 emmmm back then a escort wasn,t classed as a decent car. xr3i was a decent car
mansfieldclassicford Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 ive been brought up on osf s since i can remember, my earliest memorys are going to skegness in my dads mk2 1600 ghia escort that he had from new and only got scrapped in about 2001 after i nicked the engine for my first 2 door project, and i remember going to the auctions with him and buying ex national coal board mk2 transits coz he used to buy and sell em. then when i was about 15 there was this bloke, ned who had a mk2 1600 sport and used to drift it and do donuts in the carpark where we used to knock about on the raleigh burners , we all thought that his car was cool as fook, from then on ive always loved old fords. PLUS I FOOKIN HATE THEM RICERS. that reminds me, i must get the cossy 100e finished so i can put them rice boxs to shame.
sutton4ord Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 Unfortually mines in the blood being bought up with old cars mainly fords from beginng of the 70s best memories was my dads blown fordson van theres couple of photos in that timetravel im in front of it when i was a boy couldnt believe it,
nickb Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 When I was 6 my much older brother had a White Mk2 Escort, i then spent the next 28 years wanting my own Mk2 and blame Classic Ford Mag for taking all my spare time and money and swapping them for my Escort.
Russian Bear Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 My Family have always had Fords... My Grandad who had a Mk1 Zephyr Zodiac and a Mk1 Capri until he couldnt drive and flogged them... My Cousin Jim i could always remember him turning up as our postman in a black mk2 RS2000 in the late eighties, he sometimes used to drop me off to school in it. He later got rid of that for Capri 2.8 Injection. I can also remember, as think we have all done in the past?? Day dreaming of owning the kinda car that you fell in love with from a magazine, okay it was the 90's and i was reading either Fast Car or Max power but there was an article on a green mk1 escort rs2000 fitted with a cossie lump that was awesome!! but my day dream led to it having a V8 fitted...one day!!
sambo Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 I saw a mk2 Escort popular plus in a car forecourt. I had to have it, got a provident loan (50% interest) and the rest is history! . So far, i have had 3 mk2's and 2 mk1 escorts, not including all the ones that my dad has had and let me use!
lee_capri Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 old man always had fords tinas and trannys mainely first car was around 15 gold 3.0s cappa closely followed by another cappa since then god knows how many i have had they were ten pence to the pound once can remember buying rs and mexs for niftys back in the day grannys were always worth a ton to the old banger boys and cappas was worthless
escort21 Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 First car was a midnight blue mk2 escy....'nuff said.........
stuartp Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 i think i remember that same green mk1 escort in max power that's mentioned above. sadly max power when it first started is probably an influence (that and fast ford) i used to buy both those mags a year or two before i was old enough to drive for me it wasn't really my dad as he had loads of different makes of cars (although he did have a fair few fords) i think it was probably dartford one way system and the woolworths (later iceland) car park. lads a few years older hanging around or racing. lots of escorts (mostly mk2), novas, astras, fiestas etc being driven hard and with hindsight pretty dangerously round the one way system but it was the mk1 escort that i really wanted so basically even though i'm not one, i'm inspired by boy racers
Slammed Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 my dad and his mates i grew up with mk1 cortinas escorts etc.. my dads red mk1 4 door was built specifically for me in '93 because mum said we need a 4 door going to essex nationals i remember still in the 90's seeing all the mk1 and 2 escorts cortinas anglias etc.. south london scene etc.. i dunno when i joined up on here all those years ago i have meet good people and really bought both my osf's from here and a lot of parts i shouldnt have bought..i blame osf i will always say that i have been born in the wrong era... you lot had all the fun of cheapness old fords and old ford fun
EscortHeadCase Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Got into cars at about 17-18. When I was 20 i got a mk3 2.0 16v gti golf that needed some work (mostly interior and basic stuff) . And i was really into it until one day i came home and my dad had the "Escort" program that they still show on Men and Motors on and it was right at the start so with a "now come and look at this" i sat down and watched the whole thing (including the mention of OSF) and came out a converted blue oval nut. So i got shot of the golf and put the money into a cheap 1.5 clio diesel to get me around. Then my dad started talking about wanting an escort, so we would scour the internet looking and reading up on it. I bought him a years subscription to classic ford etc. Then one day he finds out about an orange mk2 shell under a tarp in some guys garden with a pile of bits that were an un finished 1.3 crossflow - pinto conversion. So he went round and had a look and shortly after I came home to see a pretty solid (one chassis leg was a bit holey) shell in the garage and a pile of bits. Over the next few months i would help out as much as i could because truth be told i was getting a serious case of escortosis. To be told if i helped out with the build then i would get put on the insurance to drive it was heaven which made me double my efforts in hunting down parts we needed etc. Then my 21st birthday came round, and whilst I was sat at the table in the morning having a coffee my old man sat down next to me and with a wry smile told me that the us project wasn't really an us project it was a for me project. Took weeks for me to stop smiling after that, anyway I quit my going nowhere job spent all my time and savings getting the old girl back together (with a lot of help from people on here and dad and his mates) and by august 08 I was starting my IT Trainee job and spent my last week of freedom giving her a rub down and putting a fresh paint of orange on. And I will never look back....well only if im reversing, usually its out the front or the side windows
BaileyMex Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Growing up in Pollards Hill Mitcham, I was surrounded by them tearing the streets up, It was fate Plus i remember a capri doing a massive burnout right outside my house and i was mesmorized
accord83 Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 When I was 6 the old man got a new mk3 Zephyr 6 in bottle green, then he had a mk1 Lotus Cortina for a short time, later in 1968 he got a Corsair 2000 and decided he was £500 under budget (he was Operations Manager for Fina petrol) so sent in to the workshops for the apprentices to 'play with', It came back lowered on Lotus rims and went like a cut cat, (£500 went a long way on parts in 68!) He let me drive it on an old airfield when I was 12, first time I drove at 100 and taught how to handbrake turn, THAT'S when I got hooked.
SebringRS Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Me and my dad were looking for a 1st car for me, to start with i was on about getting something like an Opel Kadet (becuase of Richard Hammonds) but then we couldnt find any in the shape i wanted. So my dad showed me his 1st car, which was a mk1 escort 1100L he got from his Grandad. Then kinda stuck from there, we went to look at a Mk1 4-door but that was too expensive, then my dad bought the RS for him then passed it on to me when he got the Mexi-cossie Oh and the Classic Ford Show 2008 didnt help Then i joined on here and kinda fueled the "obsession". I was all into Jap and Muscle cars before I joined on here.
Grizzley Dell Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 nookie in the back of a mk1 escort got me into osf's
stevepeanut Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 had a couple of everyday cars like a rover and mondeo, then after a go in a supra a bought one of those, sold that, and had a bmw 325i e30. Realised that RWD is the way to go. BMW died on a roundabout when the back end locked solid. Was looking all over for an interesting RWD car, my mate found a cheap capri for sale. Had a look and bought it, and had 4 osfs since then. More than anything its the friends I've made, the whole scene and meets that have kept me with the osfs. But it will never come close to my passion for riding motorbikes.
accord83 Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Oh, Just remembered, being paid (badly) in the late 70's to thrash mk2 Escort Panda Cars and 1600 swb Transits, the 3 litre lwb Transits with 2spd overdrives weren't too shabby either!
red-rum816 Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 my first car was a mk1 fiesta van thats what got me in 2 old fords.
tazrocks88 Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 my dad and his mates they are all classic ford nuts v8cortina on here is 1 of them! my dad has had god knows how many cortinas escorts and capri's as i have grown up but i have also been 2 so many shows etc because of him as a small kid so i just decided my first car had 2 be a mk1 escort as i specifically fell in love with one i saw at ford fair 10 ish years ago also not looked back since
