i had a capri when i was 18 (2.0 laser 8) ) and that was my introduction to rwd and more importantly OSF's i then went thru mini's landrovers and even a couple of rice burners  but always had a "soft spot" for the blue ovals but i knew i couldn't afford to buy one done so i'd have to build one instead, a couple of mates had got escort projects on the go so i went to CF show 08 with them and decided i fancied a mk2 cortina -

i bought one thinking it just needed arches n sills  - taught myself how to weld and mend things and now i'm spending my weekends helping mates with their projects- ok so i'm pointing and drinking tea - but moral support is important :)

gotta say my dad got me hooked! There is a pic of me in a baby seat in the back of a bubble arched, caged mk1 escort fast asleep!

Dad had a fair few over the years and i just got it drilled in to me that they were cooler than penguin piss!

when i was a kid my dad had a mk1 escort and my uncle had 2 mk1 lotus cortina's (used to love going out in them 8) )

then my first 2 cars were mk1 1300e escorts and after them i had a mk2 mex and loved them ever since

My 'ol m8 JB always had old Ford's as that was all he could afford, they were all shite to be honest but we loved 'em !!

They were mostly Mk1 Fiesta's and Cortina's.

I bought my first car of off JB, a mint Mk1 Fiesta.

When my mates were all buying Max Power magazine I was buying Ford Heritage magazine. CF mag wasn't out then ! Never looked back since 8)

My dad had a lot of fords when i was a kid, a brand new 1.6 d mk2 orion, a 1.8d mk5 escort and 3 escort vans so i was shown the way by me dad !! An old lady down the road had a mk2 fez for sale so that was my first car but after crashing that into to many fields i looked in the local paper and saw an ad that went something like Ford escort for sale 57,000 miles on clock good runner 11 months mot £375. I replyed to it and it turned out to be a brown 2 door mk2 escort ( UBE 275 T ) that was about rotten ( how the hell it ever got a test still escapes me !!!) but i beat him down to £340 and drove it away that nite and havent looked back since :ykt::mrgreen::ykt:

My Dad bought a new 1600e in 1970 and had one ever since, in fact he's got loads as he's been breakin them and escorts or should I say had me break em since the 80's in south london and he always pushed mk 1 escorts onto me, but back then all I wanted was a Pop or anglia, in the 90's I could'nt hack workin for him anymore so left and ended up in the building trade and just carried on with old fords as a hobby, must admit I'm not biased to just old skool fords, I equally love my old skool camaro and my old skool triumph chopper

My dad was a driving instructor and he used MK1 then MK2 escorts at the time , ever other weekend i would help my dad do the tappets and a bit of servicing as and when , my dad also had many fords , a MK4 Zephyr then a MK3 Cortina GT and a couple of MK1 Granada's and he would take me to Wimbledon almost every Sunday so the seeds where sown from a very age

Forgot to mention all those who taught and inspired me when I was a kid, you know who are not forgetting Neil (lotusless) and Dave (Stiggy), yes I do remember after school You'd have people like stiggy come into my dads garage and say things like pass me that dizzy and show ya how to set points or say NO YA DON'T need twin 48s on ya 1300, if my GCSE's were based on escort's I might have passed a few, wish we could bring back the Palace parade meet, I'd move back to London, or maybe not lol

I vowed I'd never own a Ford as long as I lived after I once owned a Series 2 RS t u r b o.........What a pile of :shit:

Then a mate of mine insisted I bought his 1.6 Laser Capri. It was actually reliable and was nice to drive. But it was a bit undnerpowered, so I then went and bought a 2.8 Turbo Technics Capri and the rest as they say, was history.

I then got into OSF by reading a Classic Ford write up with Darren, Tom, Ad and Ben way back in 2004

They were all I could afford when I was 17! 1951 Fordson 5cwt van, £10, came with Polyfiller to mend the rear valance, tin of non drip paint and brush to finish it! first job was to drill the main jet out in the carb, got an extra 5 mph out of it!

1. Cheap Rwd

2. Cheap Power on Rwd

3. Good Chassis under the cars, to have fun with!

4. Cheap Rwd insurance! (non-bmw/merc etc)

Thats it... nothing else!

sorry guys ;).

as soon as i have enough money for a powerful Rwd and old enough for affordable insurance!

They weren't old when I started driving  seriously though they were just good cheap fun motors mainly mk2 and mk3 tinas, and capris then I got into zodiac mk3's :D I guess because my dad had 3 of them when I was a kid. When I got older I strayed and owned 4 or 5 bmw's and a few other things (mainly junk) but got another mk3 zodiac bout 3 weeks and still can't understand why I ever drove anything else.

where i was brought up there's a ring road about 1.5 mls round which has now been spoiled by traffic lights the biggest carpark was about 50yds from my dads house ,it was basically a race track and i used to watch all the young ones in there escorts ,capris ,cortinas, anglias, chevettes, minors, robins, mantas and ladas, sunbeams racing about

the ones with dads cars had granadas and newer cortinas

the ones that had no cash had minors, chevettes and ladas (fiat twin cams fitted was a norm )

all the fords were the best looking cars especially the escorts imo ,so as soon as i could afford a car i cycled 15 mls to see a 2 dr mk2 cortina and that was my first garden ornament ,white with the flash gt with no engine and needing wings fitted still waiting on my dad fitting them 23 yrs later

sure it ended up scrap after a few failed owners
