Top Gear has had female presenters before, I'm not quite old enough to remember Angela Rippon but I certainly remember Kate Humble

And OMG, what a waste of a YB turbo!

I like Chris Evans but I don't think Top Gear should be Top Gear without the trio but as it's already decided then i think Suzi Perry would be a good choice along with Guy Martin.

top gear started life as a boring program about cars, it couldnt survive in the modern times when we started to get more channel choice, and had to evolve into an entertainment program, well entertaining for most of the people anyway, so agreed, well scripted, just like Clarksons Sun column, as he could never be that continuously funny off his own back, but thats television and exactly what gets viewers, a couple of the old has been presenters then switched channel to present a more original format of show called 5th gear, while it has survived, because there are now too many channels, that new formats are in short supply, its boring rubbish, personally i have never made a point of watching either program, but if TG is on when i walk in then ill sit and watch, but 5th gear, ill switch it off, while 3 of them are professional drivers, im agreed with above, without being sexually discriminitive and dis-respectful, but a doris just dosnt gel on this sort of program

The future success of TG will all be dependant on entrertainment value, and the cars will be more props than the talking point, TG is going to be a very hard act to follow, and having what happened and the presenters having to go, i personally, would have scrapped it in its entirety including the name, and resurected it under an entirely different name and format, as unfortunately the 3 presenters became top gear itself and your never going to loose that STIGma if you parden the pun

we can all go test drive a standard car, but its not so easy to even get near a super car, so to see someone throwing one around a track, with the appearance of not caring and to see the inside etc, for some is the closest it gets and is entertainment value

Chris Evans has his work cut out now, i would like to see him make a success of it, but im not holding my breath, as it really should have been put in the same sack as Clarkson

as Aardvark101 says, lets have some truthful restoration programs and not the rubbish thats peddled in wheeler dealers, car SOS and for the love of cars, Chris Evans name on a program like that or a completely new idea would be far better

From what I've seen of Guy Martin I really can't imagine he'd be interested in doing Top Gear. I don't doubt his mechanical knowledge or skill on a superbike but does he have the required passion for new motors and supercars? Unless the show changes format I really can't see him doing it. Shame really as he's a sound bloke and really down to earth. (I could however see him maybe doing a different challenge/adventure each week.)

I don’t like Chris Evans I never have, don’t like the outgoing version of Top Gear either.  Even the fans could see that the current format was very dated and needed changing.  Top Gear has been going since 1977 and has various format changes and presenter changes over the years Chris Evans will come and go and it will still continue.

It’s about time they had another female presenter its had many in the past, the ones I know of are:

Michelle Newman
Vicki Butler Henderson
Kate Humble
Julia Bradbury
Angela Rippon
Sue Baker
Janet Trewin
Nicky Fox
Beki Adam

Resurrecting an old thread. Seems Mat LeBlanc is refusing to do another series with Chris Evans. He apparently is arrogant and rude and runs things with tyrannical rule? Im shocked and surprised! When you join a project like this surely he did some research on who he was working with?

And in an odd kind of fashion, it's The Spice Girls revisited as there are a few others quitting at the moment too:

Chris Evans – Ginger

David Cameron – Posh

Roy Hodgson – Sporty

Boris Johnson – Baby

Nigel Farage – Scary

What gets me is the mega salaried executives who even thought this was going to work? The guy has had a history of egomania and bullying. His BBC liaison quit before the first roll of film was shot. Before the first show aired Matt LeBlac said he wouldnt be doing a second series if Chris Evans was doing the show. BBC management seriously hate Clarkson so much and understood the formula he created so little that they must have been delusional if they thought they could replicate the success with someone like Evans. What do the execs actually do for the big bucks they earn?

When has any exec of a Publicly owned company / organisation done anything to warrant the 'big bucks' - f**kin Old school boys network is about as corrupt as it comes!

Agreed, its the BBC that needs looking at, not it's 'Stars'

Controversial as it maybe, if they ain't kiddie fiddling or molesting they're taking bungs to air crap shows!

The new series is just about to start here this week. Its quite hilarious to see the promotion adverts for it. Chris evens is not mentioned through the whole thing. The just say with Matt Le Blanc and other guest stars in cars. Even when they end the promo they show like a poster shot with Le Blanc , the Stig and Sebine. Not even a picture of Evans or a single mention of his name. I have never seen such a blatant attempt to erase someone from their own show before. Quite incredible.
