My first car at 16 was a mk2 Escort 1600 sport. Venetian red. KUR 122V. Had a front end smash and the plan was to fix it up. The council thought it was dumped and took it away to scrap before I got round to sorting it.

Then I bought a mk2 1100 poplar plus in midnight blue. YMG 859T. That was the first osf I actually drove on the road.

1st car was reg 840BYT a matt black 105e Anglia fitted with Lotus Steels and a 1500gt with twin choke weber. Had a nice little scoop on fibreglass bonnet, black Perspex side windows and a set of anti-tramp bars fitted. I was 15 at the time.

Mk1 Escort 2 door 1300, I think it was either an L or an XL. It was stardust silver and rotten as a pear at just 10 years old! I had a little fun in it before swapping it for a Dolomite 1850HL

Man after my own heart! Mine was same spec as smokems with a few more goodies taken off the race car before sadly selling it. Blame the now wife for that. Hope she doesn't read this.

Mine was a mk1 rs2000 psg361m i bought when i was 18.The car ended it's days in my ownership after a bit to much fun and a slide into a sherpa van.Sold the old girl on for £300 and she was broke up.I have a feeling the reg was resurrected some years later.

Mk2 series one 1500gt cortina. Spotlights fitted, orion cassette player, door speakers. Seats out of my old man's rusty lancia! Swapped the rostyes for a set of cobra slot mags. Thrush back box. Obligatory air horns.

started out with a Granada coupe, yes a 3 litre at 17! I could only afford to run it for a few months so swapped it for a mk5 Cortina that was only a few years old, swapped that for a mk3 2000e Cortina, smashed it badly ( but repaired it ), sold it on and bought a mk1 1200 deluxe ( 526 fxt ) off ron harris and put a 1700 pre crossflow in it that ron helped me out with parts for, got bored after a year, sold it back to ron minus engine,( that went to someone else for an Anglia ), then it was a series of mk1 and 2 granadas, then jags, then range rovers, then 5 years ago I got a hunger for old fords again so bought a rusted out Anglia for £400 and rebuilt the shell and turned it into the Anglia I have today, which for those who haven't seen it is like brand new,re painted all over including underneath, 1700 pre crossflow, type 9, re trimmed, discs all round with servo, etc etc. it's a keeper, my boys will have it eventually, I would like a mk1 Cortina 2 door, but im into vw's as well, and sadly have no spare space these days!

MK.V Cortina 1.6 but previous owner had a race engine fitted, locked diff, straight through exhaust and lowered with a nice set of white weller wheels. LEX454V.

I was driving home from Norwich to Caister on the dual carriageway when some old twat driving his Volvo decided to cross directly in front of me...only problem was he'd forgotten about the large trailer full of brick rubble which he was towing.

I hit the trailer and ripped it clean off the towing hitch, it was like a bomb going off.. We left the carriageway to the nearside off into a field, rolled and managed to land eventually wheels down, well front wheels as axle came off then back on to the road... (We were told that bit by police from witnesses as to this day I can't recall the collision)...

Impact put the engine through the bulk head. Front seat passenger broke his leg and lost a few teeth, I fractured my leg and both wrists.. Old c@#t from the Volvo just started picking up pieces of debris apparently, didn't check on us.

Luckily, I had been doing about 70mph..otherwise it may have ended differently. I have pics buried deep in my loft...I shall endeavour to find them..!!

My first is the Mk2 in my profile photo. Had it on 30 years. Weeks after getting my first job applied for my first bank loan. It was a coming of age arrangement for me, The responsibility of applying for bank loans and not relying on parents and all that for the first time. I remember going to make the last payment with a feeling of accomplishment only to be told that I had already finished paying it off and didnt owe them what I thought was the last payment, it kind of took the moment away even though I had some extra cash in my pocket.

Mine was a 1976 MK2 Escort 2dr 1.1 Pop Plus in Olympic Blue, I had it when it was 7 years old and it was pretty rotten then! My brothers friend had his 1600E stolen and got it back stripped, I bought the engine off him for £50 and chucked it in the escort, I then added a Ghia interior from the scrappy before I stuffed it into a MK5 Cortina and wrote it off! Happy days
