Q plates have always had a stigma attached to them, normally people see them and mutter words like 'ringer' or 'cut n shut' but now the Q registrations issued would stand for 'quality'! Having to go through an Iva test to prove the car has been built well and safe can only be a good thing in my eyes.

if you think the iva test is about safety and build quality you need to read the manual! lol

I have many times....and my mk1 escort will be going through the Iva test next year. Don't get me wrong....I don't really want to lose my reg plate either, but that's all it is....a plate with some numbers and letters....it's still the car you want to build at the end of the day....we just need to think a bit more before taking an angle grinder to it!

well if mine has to go on a Q reg then i think after owning 20yrs it would have to be sold! i didnt buy a Q reg and i dont want a Q reg. and also they just look shit! same car or not, some cars have plates with good letters and numbers and just look good on a car, some plates have letters and numbers on them that just look crap. so if it ends up with a Q then the mk2 mex will be for sale.

Mine won't sva, or if t does it'll cost a fortune. I'm just not willing to spend anymore on it, specially for a shitty q plate.

RIGHT, your only going to get this one time offer!!  I am willing to purchase you non compliant SVA mk2 escorts. The more non compliant the better. ie five linked/ turreted/ coil overs/ adjustable tcas/ compression struts/ atlas/ disc front and rear conversion/ 5 speed original glass lights door handles bumpers. Not fussed about interior or engine unless it's got webers on with big cam so it won't meet emissions but would have to be at least 240 bhp so that rules boat anchors out ! Looking to buy at least ten yes ten. With the pending rules on historic cars looming there worthless including all the trick bits you'd put on them as these won't fetch much as any cars there fitted to May jeopardise future registration. The cars will be used as track cars....more than likely get trashed in a big way so need a few to go at. There will be no fancy eBay dreamer price given as basically there scrap value only. Which at the moment I believe £113 per ton but will give over and above that for the right cars. Money will be paid in cash and you will not see the car again unless you visit a race circuit or scrapyard.

How would Historic Race Cars or Homogolated Cars fare?

Come to think of it, Wont it kill the classic rally scene altogether?

I'm thinking if they are exempt, although I've no idea, then maybe we could get some kind of events license for our cars.

Not sure if there is anything in this line of thinking, but it might have some legs.

Yup,  surely they can't exempt some cars and not others with similar modifications.

Just had all the rear suspension off the car and freshend up with new black poly bushes. Also fitted 1 inch blocks (and will be getting 1 inch springs soon).

As a modification (as small as it is) should i leave it totally standard in case its hauled in when i register it?

I know its only a small mod but i dont need the dramas.

Maybe leave the lowering blocks off for any inspection, then slip them back in later.

I wouldnt say a lowering block is a radical alteration?

It doesn't seam to be about radical change, just change.

youve obviously been trying to hard to get power out of that old XE, you must of missed the boat anchor warrior engines that make 240hp, and you wouldnt be botherd about the 500hp pintos, you know the ones that were modified and tuned in northampton.
