You're asking whether we prefer a mk2 or a mk3 Escort? 🤔

Are you sure you're on the right forum?

I would take the bottom one!

I already have a Mk1 and Mk2 so why not round up the set? (We dont have Mk3 Escorts either so its more exotic to me than those in the UK)

That’s true it’s a mk4 turbo boot lid but might be on a mk3 car as it doesn’t fit around the light cut outs by the look of it

and mk4 bumpers

I think it's a mk4 been like this for ages. There is another mk2 rally car out of shot. He reckons he has put about 160k into it and is top spec. Nothing much remains of typical  escort running gear or suspension.

Aren't they all much of a muchness once they stopped making real ones?

That's exactly how we consider them! Since they weren't sold here any front wheel drive Escort made after proper Escorts is a Mk3 to us!

I remember the first Mk3 I ever saw in Singapore. I took photos of it from all angles to show all my friends.

A few years later the girlfriend of my best mate bought one that was a private South African import and the starter had gone and I was working on it in my driveway. The Twincam was on the front lawn and the Mk2 just out on the road when a pair of cops came in the drive while I was under the Mk3.  The Mk2 was always parked on the street at that time and they were following up on a stereo that had been nicked from it the week before. They said "Are you the guy that had a Ford Escort broken into and stereo stolen?" I said "Yes, thats me" and he looked around at all three types and simply said "Which one?" Just one of those funny memories of the past.

Probably just looks like it doesn't fit as it has no seals. The top of the boot is a similar amount lower than the tops of the wings. So, looking more and more Mk4.....?!

I’d have the mk2 as just the rear axle has

atlas axle

strengthening plate

vented rear discs

watts linkage

and I’m sure the rest of the car will be trying to rip that out of the shell

and that is a mk4 RS turbo pre 90 spec
